To warn anybody thinking of shopping online from John Lewis that they use Yodel as their carrier

so it's pretty hit or miss as to wether you'll ever receive your purchases.See my sorry tale in the thread below. That being the yanbu Yodel thread and not the one on Chat or Christmas re recommended sites (and those to avoid).

If you need further info Google Yodel complaints, should put in doubters(yes you John Lewis too) right in the picture. Reviewcentre makes pretty interesting reading as does BBC Watchdog.

1.1/5 on 987 reviews!!!! Shock

I took in a package from them today and it was covered in green tape saying repacked by Yodel. I don't understand why they would need to repackage anything after it had left the retailer.

ViviPrudolf · 06/12/2011 17:02

Oh effing hell. Can today get any worse? I only ordered from JLP as I thought I might stand a better chance of receiving the item with them.

AARRGHHH!!!! I give up.

VivaLeBeaver · 06/12/2011 17:04

I've never had problems with John Lewis and have orderd several times from them.

Methe · 06/12/2011 17:04

We had a yodel delivery yesterday, 2 days after ordering. It's not all bad. Remember reviewers are usually people who've been pissed off. The happy, satisfied people don't bother themselves to review.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 06/12/2011 17:05

Who the hell delivers for play.com ? I haven't recieved anything i've ordered, it's been 2 weeks ffs !

ElaineReese · 06/12/2011 17:08

Yodel are useless and they are liars.

They took my parcel back as I wasn't in - and their timeframe is actually 7-7, not 8-6 as JL will tell you - so I rang and said could you leave it in Safe Place tomorrow.

Yes, we can do that, let me check it doesn't need a signature, no it doesn't, we'll do that.

Next day: we have taken your parcel back as it requires a signature.

Ring up again, no record of my call the day before, could you please tell me a window even of a few hours so I can be in? No. Can I pick it up from a depot? Certainly - an hour's drive away. Anyway, then they agree they will try hard to deliver it after 4pm.

Next day they have left a card at 11.12 saying sorry they were unable to deliver....

They are SHIT. Can't believe JL use them, really.

LittleWhiteWolf · 06/12/2011 17:08

Yodel are alright for us, but only because we live in a rural village and they leave our packages on the front step. If we lived 15 minutes away in the town our stuff would get nicked more often than not.

Now CityLink on the other hand...they'd put me right off ordering from anyone who delivers with them!

ViviPrudolf · 06/12/2011 17:10

DPD have Made Me Angry today. Left a calling card and yet I've been in all day and not once did the doorbell ring. Xmas Angry

Fuzzywuzzywozabear · 06/12/2011 17:10

I find citylink ok but then I always have the same driver and he's got to know me when I work etc knows if my car's there I'm in - yodel and hdnl are absolutely appalling

earlyriser · 06/12/2011 17:18

Play.com are really slow on delivery, but i think they are based in Jersey (or ship goods out from there, hence the lower prices). Could be wrong though!

MrsHeffley · 06/12/2011 17:20

That would be 987 pissed off reviewers then not including the ones that moved BBC Watchdog into investigating them.

Either DP or I is now going to have to miss the dtwins Christmas play on the off chance they turn up tonight. It's one of boys main present(pretty much all his Xmas money) which is now out of stock online.Sad

John Lewis today "let's look on the bright side it may turn up this pm"HmmSoooo 3rd day I stayed in all day for nothing but they're not the slightest bit bothered. The number on the Yodel card doesn't exist ,they don't answer their e-mails and they charge 10p a minute if you get through their incorrect telephone number.

Pretty damn sure they won't turn up tonight but I dare not chance it so thanks John Lewis Merry Christmas to you too.You can stick your cutesy ad where the sun don't shine.

I ordered some makeup from Asos. I use a particular brand as I have rosacia and Asos stocked it and it was free delivery. Yodel delivered it. I got a card to say my package had been left in my shed. I don't have a shed but my neighbour does. I knocked on her door but she is a bit deaf. So I sneaked round the back (hoping I was not spotted as there has been a spate of shed robberies around my way) and into the spider infested shed. When I got in and opened parcel it was empty!!!!!
Asos did resend one straight away. I did come home to find it on my doorstep in the pissing rain Angry

midnightexpress · 06/12/2011 20:36

Oh arse, I've just ordered something from Uniqlo and see it's a Yodel delivery. I've never heard of them - are they new? And if so, how have they managed to bag so many contracts if they are so shit (stupid question. It'll be the money, I expect, huh?).

Oh well, I shall have to see what happens.

Like viva, I've ordered several times from JL, most recently last week, and never had any problems with them. Maybe I've just been lucky. You can also order on line and pick up in store or at selected waiteoses. DK how many waitroses are involved though.
Just don't get me started with Jojo maman bebe!!

EleanorRathbone · 06/12/2011 20:39

Oh shit. I've just ordered some presents for Refuge from their christmas appeal.

Hope they prioritise them.

MrsHeffley · 06/12/2011 21:50

Well they never turned up,no call, nothing, yet another wasted day.Back on the phone tomorrow I guess.

Actually dp said he'll ring and kick some arse if needs be,I'm wasting so much time chasing this gift.To be frank in this case John Lewis's attitude stinks as much as Yodels incompetence.

buggering buttface,i had a card from them today saying theyd tried to deliver a parcel.id never heard of them.fingers crossed i get it all ok-should be dc main presents!

thebigkahuna · 06/12/2011 21:54

I ordered something from GHD late Sunday afternoon and it arrived today, via Yodel.

Mind you, our Yodel delivery man lives next door to me Grin

thebigkahuna · 06/12/2011 21:55

Oooh, but may I rant about Royal Mail please? They put a card through the door on Friday saying a parcel was too big for our letter box. DH had literally just walked through the door and I'd been in for hours.

He went back out and flagged down the postman who said he didn't have our parcel, had never had it, had just been handed the 'too big for your letterbox' card with the rest of the post at the sorting office.

Utter tossers.

OhTheConfusion · 06/12/2011 21:59

I ordered from John lewis on Sunday and it all arrived this morning :-)

FeathersMcGraw · 06/12/2011 22:03

Yodel are a merger of DHL Domestic & Home Delivery Network so proof that 2 wrongs do not indeed make a right...

I ordered from Amazon on 25th Nov with the free delivery option. Sadly Yodel are the carrier and my order has still not arrived Until Monday it was still in their hub with no movement since the 28th.

Chased with Amazon on Monday as it is a waste of time trying to get someone at Yodel and got the reply "we will look into it and you should hear from us within 2 business days". It miraculously moved to another hub a bit closer to home overnight and was out for delivery this afternoon.

Amazon say it should be with me tonight (apparently Yodel deliver up until 9pm) but nope, nowt, zip...

Another call to Amazon tomorrow, I reckon...

lettingitallgonow · 06/12/2011 22:05

A lost package courtesy of YODEL here too :( I've been trying to track it down for 2weeks now, the note said it was around the back but it was no where to be seen,

TadlowDogIncident · 06/12/2011 22:18

John Lewis home delivery is a bit useless even if it's something they're delivering themselves, to be honest. And some of their customer service staff are pretty appalling: they clearly Could Not Give A Stuff. I eventually got an apology and a refund of my delivery fee last time they messed something up by writing a letter to head office, but emails and calls to their customer service line were a complete waste of time and pixels. Very disappointing from John Lewis - I think they're trading on past glories, to be honest.
