To warn anybody thinking of shopping online from John Lewis that they use Yodel as their carrier

so it's pretty hit or miss as to wether you'll ever receive your purchases.See my sorry tale in the thread below. That being the yanbu Yodel thread and not the one on Chat or Christmas re recommended sites (and those to avoid).

If you need further info Google Yodel complaints, should put in doubters(yes you John Lewis too) right in the picture. Reviewcentre makes pretty interesting reading as does BBC Watchdog.

Ordered something for my Mum from JL online; it was delivered on Saturday, and I had ordered it on Thursday. That was with HDNL

Annunziata · 06/12/2011 22:25

I've never had a problem with them, Amazon have used them a few times too.

snigger · 06/12/2011 22:37

Don't Get Me Started.

Their contact centre staff have actual certificates for Lies, and the one I spoke to had gone all postgrad with her thesis in Barefacedness.

Seriously, two weeks to get a priority delivery, and a saga that involved speaking to a sobbing former delivery man in order to confirm whether or not the company were right when they said delivery had been attempted three times and was successful on the fourth try.

Maelstrom. I acknowledge issues can be inevitable but the information delivery lacks ...... everything.

MrsHeffley · 07/12/2011 09:48

Sooooo no parcel for the 3rd day running(3 days holiday wasted).Just spoke to John Lewis and apparently it went on the lorry this morning. So why was I promised it would be here yesterday, why did I have to sit in like a prune for nothing and why did nobody ring me?Given Yodel's history of lying I'll take that with a pinch of salt.

Soooo John Lewis suggested I pick it up myself errr thanksHmm,given some of the stories I've read about parcels not being there think I'll pass on wasting my petrol money for nothing.

John Lewis don't have a clue(or really care) what Yodel's movements are, they seem to work completely separately.

It's raining no idea what to do.If I go out (and I have) to the chances are it'll be lobbed over the fence and left in the rain(it's electrical).Got soooooo much to do today in order to catch up from the previous lost days.Angry

Mines just come a day before I was told it was going to be delivered... Xmas Confused

grumplestilskin · 07/12/2011 13:29

the carrier isn't the only reason not to order from John Lewis online, twice they've not included my gift cards and once they sent the full invoice to the gift recipient instead of to me in place of the gift card!

also one of them was for a specific day (came the day before) and was a joke gift that the gift card explained...

splashymcsplash · 07/12/2011 13:33

I agree with the comment about play.com

I thought I would be really organised and ordered my christmas presents 2 weeks ago. Half of them still haven't arrived and I'm wondering if they will all arrive by christmas now.

WhoWhoWhoWho · 07/12/2011 13:39

I've had four deliveries from Yodel

1: Wasn't in, said would redeliver next day, tried to redeliver again less than 12 hours later, wasn't in again (was expecting redelivery next day so had gone back out), 2nd card said "we have tried to deliver your parcel twice, you can now pick it up from our depot in X town (30 miles away from my house, across a toll bridge, I do not drive).

2: Above delivery got sent back to the blinds company I had bought from eventually as I couldn't pick it up from depot. Arrived with one of the two boxes hanging open. Damaged item inside. Surprise surprise. Which I had to photograph and email photos, and email back and forth with company who finally agreed to send me replacement part (large rail for vertical blinds).

3: Replacement part for broken item. Box arrived again hanging open but was thankfully undamaged.

4: Ordered a mantel clock from M+S, didn't come in time period I was told, then I went away for the weekend. Came home sunday night to yodel card tellling me parcel had been left in full view in my front garden on saturday morning! Miraculously it was still there but rather soggy.

They are shit!

redlac · 07/12/2011 13:41

Play are normally really good the whole of the year apart from November & December!

Some bastard Yodel driver is sitting reading my DH's christmas presents which I have now had a refund from Amazon for because the books have been 'lost' - lost my arse!

doctorcake · 07/12/2011 13:57

Just had a delivery from Yodel and told driver that they were supposed to have delivered an Amazon package to me seven days ago. I said in the tracking information it was on the van for delivery and had been for seven days. He walked away laughing and told me to not hold out much hope of ever seeing it..so what do they do with all the parcels they can't be bothered to deliver! Angry

I'm off to Waterstone's in town now

redlac · 07/12/2011 14:00

they are all in his house doctorcake

doctorcake · 07/12/2011 14:06

redlac Unfortunately I think that might be the case. Perhaps a visit to a local car boot sale soon might be interesting!

ChickensThinkYouCanGetStuffed · 07/12/2011 14:16

I ordered the DC's uniforms last August from M&S. Yodel tried to deliver them when we were on holiday, and left a card saying that they'd left the large parcel in the porch. We have no porch. There was no package. When I called M&S to query my invisible porch, they weren't remotely surprised and refunded me immediately. When I see our Yodel delivery man in our street, his trousers are always riding low exposing a nasty amount of arse hair. And the manky git spits every second or third step. I am plotting

somewherewest · 07/12/2011 15:23

I ordered something from John Lewis a while back and they left it with my neighbours. In our case it was fine, but for all they knew our neighbours could've been nosey gits or complete loopers we'd been feuding with for years

mummymccar · 07/12/2011 16:27

4 different threads in one week about Yodel? Does this make them an official enemy of Mumsnet yet?

Apparently Yodel drivers are just local people so they probably don't care as much as career drivers. I once saw a Yodel delivery driver in a Ford with so many boxes in her car that she could barely get out. It was so comical I actually took a photo. She must've been a good delivery driver though because she actually knocked.

I do have to give credit to Yodel though - they've found a way to revitalise the High Street!

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 07/12/2011 16:43

oh poo Xmas Sad i have ordered 2 parcels from the entertainer and i know the first one was came through yodel, oh i hope the second one turns up, its for dd4 for christmas, fingers crossed

MrsHeffley · 07/12/2011 17:29

Praise the heavens we have a parcel!!!!!!

It came today and my lovely neighbour took it in.Had to resist the urge to leap all over him and give him slobbery kisses.

Xmas Blush

Top tip when chasing John Lewis insist on only dealing with a manager in customer services.

Pleased for you OP. Xmas Grin
I had a terrible time trying to get a Amazon delivery(DD's birthday present) from Yodel, they sent us to a distribution centre that didn't exist, made numerous broken promises and finally retuned it to Amazon.
I don't order large items from Amazon anymore.

mummymccar · 07/12/2011 20:21

Horray MrsHeffley! Glad you finally got your package - hope you get some form of apology from JL.

FeathersMcGraw · 07/12/2011 22:59

My Amazon order arrived today too, Mrs Heffley!!!

It was only 6 days later than the estimated delivery date Shock

spatchcock · 08/12/2011 12:38

I would also like to warn people against Yodel.

I had an item sent to me from Amazon via Yodel. I kept calling them because on their website it said that it was delivered 23/11. They kept telling me that it had been signed for by myself! It's a high-value item so it's not like I would've just forgotten about it (although part of me wondered).

So today I was manouvering the bins back into place when I spotted the parcel - it had been sitting under our front window for the past three weeks, in the rain and wind! We don't live in some twee village, we live in a gritty part of London and it's a miracle the parcel was still there.

What the hell? Did the driver sign my name and just leave it there?

BramblyHedge · 08/12/2011 12:42

They left a a parcel outside my backdoor which is fully accessible by anyone in a town centre as we have shared access down the back of the terrace. It had been ripped open and thankfully nothing was missing.

Yama · 08/12/2011 12:46

YODEL website stating my package was delivered to 'Customer' yesterday at 3pm.

Not with neighbour, not in recycling bin.

Can't get through to the White Company to complain as it's constantly engaged.

Have emailed but I want to speak with someone.

Esta3GG · 08/12/2011 12:50

No probs with Yodel here - we live in the arse end of nowhere and they have just delivered 4 days early.

upsylazy · 08/12/2011 12:52

Oh fuck fuck fuck. I'd never heard of them before now but got a note through door this morning . In the box where it says we have left parcel with your neighbour at...It's got in barely legible writing "By bin" and guess what... no sign of it. I know that nobody rang the bell because I was up from 4am. I live in a fairly rough part of South london so it's pretty obvious that a package left lying outside someone's house is going to get nicked sharpish. It's one of 2 possible things,Please please please don't tell me that Hawkins Bazaar use them as that will be £350 worth of DCs' Xmas presents.
