I know this should be in health but I am desperate

I just went to give blood

They turned me down because my hb is 9.5
I have never been aneamic before apart from when pg.

To me this means two things.

One is that I have let my DD down
two is that I have cancer and I am going to die after having to have terrible things done to me.

if i sound mad it is because I am.

Going to GP in about half an hour. Feel sick.
Spent the morning in clinic with DS2 so that wound me up (nothing medical but being in a clinic is enough).
Keep trying to stay sane but its really hard.
I keep imagining the GP looking worried at me, unable to reassure me, telling me that I had better get it all checked out. Handing me a blood form.
Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck.

I cant do this bollocks. I am so bloody rubbish at this.

you'll be fine.
there's nothing that can't be resolved.
you are not ill, you are just low in iron.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 05/12/2011 15:37

Shouldnt you be off having a baby instead of indulging a mentalist like me?

Do me a favour cheer me up hey? Not much to ask surely?

How did you get on? Hope you've been looking after yourself past few days.

Onemorning · 05/12/2011 15:52

Mrs DV, you can do this bollocks.

Sending you lots of strength xxx

nickelbabe · 05/12/2011 15:53

I'm trying!!! Grin
Have you been eating?

TheScaryJessie · 05/12/2011 16:21

Thanks to this thread, I've just re-remembered that I'm eligible to donate blood again (pregnancy, blah, blah), after having to miss last month's session.

Does that help?

My GP was lovely as ever.
She agreed it was quite a drop in hb since July (when I last gave blood)
She said it is most likely down to my heavier periods. This one has lasted 8 days now although its not particularly heavy. Other ones have been 'sit on a towel' type for a few days. That made the GP go Shock so I suppose that means that is heavy.

So I am going to keep taking my iron and YES I have been eating three meals a day since Friday. This is quite an acheivement for me, pathetic as that sounds.

She gave me blood form. She said I could leave it a couple of weeks. She offered me a scan just in case its fibroids but she couldnt feel anything so I think that would just cause me too much stress atm.

She said that adult luekemias dont present with low Hb so that is reassuring.

I dont even know what I am scared of, I just know I am scared.

I think i will be alright if my hb goes up. If it doesnt there will be a whole other level of madness to come.

I wish I wasnt like this.

Well done for eating three meals a day, Mrs DV. That's not pathetic at all.

With everything you have been through, it's no surprise that you're scared. xx

latrucha · 05/12/2011 19:46

Ok MrsDeVere - I've been reading through this thread and it has got me to finally get off my arse to donate blood. I changed address a while back, blood transfusion service got it a bit wrong and I've never sorted it out. Well, now I'm going to, for you and Billie. So, you're not any of the nasty names you've been calling yourself. Your love for your daughter has made a person you'll never meet do something good.

So there.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 05/12/2011 20:06

Well done latrucha.

Erm, MrsDV, did the GP suggest that you may be going through the [ahem] change?? My Mum's iron levels dropped through the floor and she had horribly heavy periods.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 05/12/2011 21:31

I asked her and she said unlikey as my periods are still regular.

I almost snogged her.

I aint ready for that nuh uh.

I am wondering about thyroid because my sister and mum both has problems.

I can deal with a bit of thyroid.

MrsDV. When I first became a MNer, about a year ago, one of your threads was the first one I read.

I was bored at work, so I had time to read the whole thing. I made myself a cup of tea, put my name down on the organ donation register, and got on the Anthony Nolan list.

I can't give blood due to transfusions when DD was born, but I certainly would if I could (my mum and sister have given 25 and 15 pints respectively!).

Hugs and hugs to you xoxox

PontyMython · 05/12/2011 22:22

Oh mrsdv, sorry you're going through this. I'm glad you have been reassured by the doc though.

It is normal to jump to conclusions - when I was about 18 my friend phoned me in a panic because she was slightly anaemic and couldn't give blood. Thanks to some googling she was convinced she was pregnant bless her :o

I didn't realise the minimum was 12.5 - I have a way to go before donating then. Can't remember the last time mine was that level

Look. After. Yourself. Ok? Well done for eating. We are all proud of you and so is your lovely Billie. Have you got some new butterflies to put on your tree this Xmas? :) xx

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 06/12/2011 19:02

My tree is awash with butterflies Xmas Grin
