tooearlymustdache · 18/11/2011 14:20

or they're having the Christmas 'do' on the 29th and can't get a holiday to get over the night before?

Sparklingbrook · 18/11/2011 14:20

Well, our school have 1/12 and 2/12 as TED days so it may end up being a short week and the teachers can have 3 days to do Christmas shopping.

hiddenhome · 18/11/2011 14:21
Grin

seems a bit suspicous to me Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 18/11/2011 14:22

I just wish we knew if they were striking or not.

hiddenhome · 18/11/2011 14:22

They must think we're daft and haven't noticed

Couldn't they just order stuff from Amazon whilst on their lunch breaks?

and it is payday on the last day of the month..i think at least one of us is right Wink

tethersend · 18/11/2011 14:23

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm striking in order to mess up your DC's education Grin

SusanneLinder · 18/11/2011 14:23

Not a teacher, but I am striking on 30th. I would like to have gone Xmas shopping, unfortunately the RCN are looking for their members who are off to go and support the strike. So I have been dragged to a rally :(

I really COULD have shown my support from my bed/shops.

Also runs away :o

SusanneLinder · 18/11/2011 14:24

^ Oh I meant DH is an RCN member who is dragging me along, I'm in another union.

CalmaLlamaDown · 18/11/2011 14:24

They will be down a days pay so might not be able to afford Christmas this year

hiddenhome · 18/11/2011 14:25

Grin @ tethersend

hiddenhome · 18/11/2011 14:26

Eee, CalmaLlamaDown now we all know that teachers earn squillions, so losing a days pay won't difficult to bear Grin

OP posts:
handbagCrab · 18/11/2011 14:29

If all the striking teachers go Xmas shopping it'll boost the economy and help pay for our huge pay rises and gold plated pensions. Win win surely? Wink

CalmaLlamaDown · 18/11/2011 14:32

The government should encourage strikes, look at all the money they will save having to pay the publication sector that day

CalmaLlamaDown · 18/11/2011 14:34

Public sector i mean

gordyslovesheep · 18/11/2011 14:39

so a win win all round!

personally I will be demonstrating ... and maybe looking in some shop windows on the way home

frasersmummy · 18/11/2011 14:40

The teachers in my area get to go guilt free xmas shopping....

we are an snp council and therefore 30 Nov (being St Andrew's day) is a hol anyway...

Proudnscary · 18/11/2011 14:42

One of my best friends is a teacher.

She is all for the strike because she feels if they roll over now and say 'Oh ok, times are hard for all, we'll back down' all the bastard bankers and business people will be creaming off their huge salaries and bonuses again in a year or two and the teachers will have been mugged off and left out of pocket.

Dawndonna · 18/11/2011 14:43

They will all be busy compiling their amazon 'black friday' lists so no other fucker can get the bargains!

Groovee · 18/11/2011 14:56

As supply and not in a union I amn't allowed to work :-( Plus it's St Andrew's day and I love Scottish day in the nursery with dancing, and singing and the haggis and shortbreads snacks.

WinterIsComing · 18/11/2011 15:00

When I was a teacher there were no children in the family so Christmas was a heartless exchange of pointless presents. And interest rates had shot up to 15% on my starter singleton mortgage so I could barely afford to eat.

I kept the best of the loot from the pupils for myself and palmed the rest off on relatives. No need for Christmas shopping Grin

NorfolkNChance · 18/11/2011 15:22

What tethers said plus we all REALLY want to screw up your childcare for that day Grin

OrmIrian · 18/11/2011 15:24

I wish Dh would go bloody christmas shopping!

Actually I don't think he's on strike.

OrmIrian · 18/11/2011 16:34

Dh reckons it's Unison on strike that day so not teachers just TAs. Is that not the case everywhere?
