The focus on Nov 30th in the news will be teachers! Not the bin men or the clinics cancelled in hospitals etc but teachers! Grrrrrr!

hiddenhome · 18/11/2011 20:32

I work in the private sector, so I won't be striking Grin I do all my shopping online anyway.

Aw, this isn't meant to be a teacher bashing thread, I was just havin' a larf Grin

Don't bash teachers, they have a very hard job and we do appreciate 'em Smile

Downby the river...cleaning my house because I dont usually have time in the week isnt frivolous to me! Im gutted that I am losing a days pay but if I don`t make a stand with all other public sector workers, nothing will be sacred and more will be taken away and eroded.

valleyqueen · 18/11/2011 20:33

I think this is a light hearted thread.

I am GMB so will be on strike. And having
a nice lay in Smile

CaptainNancy · 18/11/2011 20:33

Are nhs unions striking that day?
DD has a hospital appointment....

Badgerwife · 18/11/2011 20:36

oh ffs not again. My DP is with the union who called for the strike NASWUT. He reckons his school is going to be closed as a result and he is hoping to be able to sneak in to deal with his backlog of admin tasks.

YoungStepMum · 18/11/2011 20:37

wish I could afford to go christmas shopping...my 'gold plated' teacher salary means I can afford a nice shiny lump of coal for DP and DSDs Sad

DownbytheRiverside · 18/11/2011 20:37

I'm striking for the same reasons, t0lk13n.

LordOfTheFlies · 18/11/2011 20:40

I'm an NHS worker but I don't work on a Wednesday anyway.

So if my DCs school is closed, can I go shopping (without getting hasseled if any of my patients see me ?) Grin

jollymary · 18/11/2011 20:44

Awww, sorry, just a bit sensitive about this, I guess. So often have to defend the teaching staff. I did "get" the frivolity from teachers! It's all such a mess re. pensions, isn't it? Won't be striking myself 'cos Trust cancelled all clinics in anticipation, thus ensuring it would have zero effect on patients and therefore would be total non-impact waste of time and achieve nothing..... Wish teachers could have a shopping day every now and then, they deserve it. I thought I worked a hard, stressy job, but then became a school governor and realised teachers do WAY more. Teachers, I salute you!

One from me too jollymary :)

Thruaglassdarkly · 18/11/2011 21:06

We DO do a bloody good job, thanks people. But so do lots of you too and you'll be losing out due to us striking, which I'm really NOT happy about. I don't see the point of public sector strikes as surely it SAVES our employers money rather than hitting them in the pocket where it hurts (which I thought was the purpose of a strike) and just lets down the ordinary people we're meant to be serving. Would've been far better to work to rule.

Fiendishlie · 18/11/2011 21:21

I am striking for the day off, seriously. Planning a long lie in followed by a spot of Christmas shopping.

noblegiraffe · 18/11/2011 21:37

"So I could strike in support or wait to see if the school decide to close, save my days pay and have the day off anyway."

For the last strike, my school was closed, but non-striking staff had to go in and look busy to earn their pay and distinguish them from striking staff.

Happymm · 18/11/2011 21:43

Yes Captain, NHS too. Check with your trust, as most have cancelled clinics just in case.

CaptainNancy · 18/11/2011 22:14

Thank you Happymm!

Miette · 18/11/2011 22:27

I wouldn't be surprised if the teachers arrange one of those "snow days" too, so they can write their Christmas cards.

alienplanet · 18/11/2011 23:04

I will be enjoying a day out although I may end up with my own ds with me.

NorfolkNChance · 19/11/2011 06:09

We're in talks with the Met office already Miette

mumdad2kidsandadog · 19/11/2011 09:18

I've booked snow for the day the Christmas holidays end up to February half term.
