Yes, it's only because of the Olympics though Wink

MumblingAndBloodyRagDoll · 16/11/2011 23:43

yes, because I think of all the Lottery money that has been stolen to pay for the Olympics Angry

AngryFeet · 16/11/2011 23:47

Oh don't worry about that. It is just a load of overhyped by the Internet and media crap. Firstly people cannot predict the future. Secondly even if they could the mayans said it would be a time of change or something. It could be something great :)

southeastastra · 16/11/2011 23:48

no i have lived through quite a few end of the world predictions, we get used to them Grin

PumpkinBones · 16/11/2011 23:48

Yes, like the Death card doesn't mean death, it means change. Although it is still failry unsettling when the Grim Reaper pops up in front of you.

I do! Blush

I was thinking how hard it would be to be carrying a baby around while the world is busy ending..... *true story but dp convinced me so I now have a 9 week old who will be just one if it's true about 2012.... NOT IDEAL!

gaelicsheep · 17/11/2011 00:00

I will admit it crosses my mind from time to time. I might be making an exception and actually celebrating New Year 2013!

MrsRhettButler · 17/11/2011 00:00

Oooh, my neighbour has the right idea though, he has bought loads of things (like sofa's) that you don't have to pay for until 2013!

gaelicsheep · 17/11/2011 00:02

Whobuilt · 17/11/2011 00:03

Why are so many people genuinely worried about this??

Surely it has no actual basis other than superstition? Real life never works on a prediction for a certain date - it never has before so why should it again?

WE have survived many previous end of the world predictions.....

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/11/2011 00:05

Do you think the Mayans, if they could see the future which they couldn't may have thought... We won't be around any more and there will be calendars and mobile phones and the speaking clock. Maybe we shouldn't bother having our calendar run after 2012, SINCE THERE WOULD BE NO POINT. Just saying.

happyhazydaze · 17/11/2011 00:06

If it happens it happens, might as well go out feeling jolly.

gaelicsheep · 17/11/2011 00:06

I am officially neurotic. When I was about 10 I read in a book about the sun expanding to become a red giant and "scorching all life from earth" (see the words are imprinted on my brain. It kept me awake worrying for weeks I kid you not. Even though I knew it was in millions of years' time!

MrsRhettButler · 17/11/2011 00:12

I did think that if the Mayan's were so clever then they wouldn't have died out.

The Mayan's did die out right?

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 17/11/2011 00:14

Oh the world ends every year, I really wouldn't worry.

Oh please dont worry!

You have a number of "trains of thought" if you will.

If you believe in God then you will believe that nobody can predict the time or the day so your pretty safe there.

If you believe in Science and fact you will see that the Mayan calendar was just predicted to "end" at that point in time (12/12/2012) but they had calendars that started again and again and again...it would be like freaking out every NYE.

The 2012 theories are based on the Mayan rubbish AND the idea that there is a rogue planet that nobody has spotted AND a planatery (sp?) alignment AND all the other rubbish about polar shifts etc.

I admit it is hard to ignore the fact that the planet is very active lately, earthquakes and volcanoes and what have you, BUT, these things do go in cycles. We do live on a planet that is changing all the time.

There is NO evidence of a magnetic shift, not yet anyway, there will be a massive increase in solar activity in the period from now til around 2014, and although there is evidence that the "pacific ring of fire" is alive again, it does not spell the END OF THE WORRRRRRRRRLD!

LeBOF · 17/11/2011 00:21

I've missed two Raptures this year. I really wanted to lay out an entire set of clothes on the pavement though, just to create the impression I might have been chosen.
