...the (most fecking boring) tank engine (in the world)?

I know he's a good example for kids, and little boys LOVE him and have done for years, but he does my tits in. Goody friggin twoshoes.

I quite like Chuggington, Timmy Time, Peppa. Also hate Balamory and that new shite the same company have put out, can't remember what you call it.

Now look here . My 3 year old DD luuurves Thomas. She has about 25 books, knows ALL the trains, and takes it very seriously.

Chuggington doesn't comes close.

GetDownNesbitt · 11/11/2011 21:13

Jason Mason could solve all his problems in one go if he stuck Grandpa's shrinking cap on the bonfire...

goodasgold · 11/11/2011 21:32

The old Thomas was banned because the only female characters were the lazy coaches. Now it is just a load of old shit.

Hannah31 · 11/11/2011 21:50

Tinga Tinga! Tinga Tinga! Tinga Tinga! . I like that. I have successfully shielded my DDs from the shite that is Peppa frickin Pig.

SausageSmuggler · 11/11/2011 21:52

Fortunately DS is not at an age where he appreciates Thomas yet could also be that I refuse to put cbeebies and their ilk on unless absolutely necessary I do however take umbridge with the fact so many people call it Thomas the Tank. Argh!

Horrible Histories CBBC is better IMO.

Cathycomehome · 11/11/2011 22:50

Just wait. I worried about teletubbies once, with their silly speech. Now it's the Inbetweeners... This too will pass...

feralgirl · 11/11/2011 23:08

Old Thomas = good, new Thomas = shash so DS doesn't know of its existence. Ditto Peppa Pig He loves Chuggington but I despise it; it's too noisy and jangly. Show Me Show Me is just weird. And I am getting very very bored of the middle-class nicey niceyness of Charlie and Lola.

We have just discovered DipDap which is frikkin awesome.

Popbiscuit · 11/11/2011 23:11

Oh God! I CANNOT stop singing that Tinga, Tinga, Tinga song!

happywheezer · 11/11/2011 23:24

Every thomas is exactly the same story.
He never listens
something goes wrong
he puts it right and says sorry
See you were wondering what you were missing. I would not travel on FC railway, there are too many accidents.
Hiro of the rails is very good though
Misty island rescue, how could they not find an island next to sodor, what have Jeremy and Harold been doing?
Why does Thomas find all the new island, Hiro, a new town etc?
The original stories were better, they have run out of ideas and now rthey have been sold to mattel.
Koko I can't stand either, or emery.

TandB · 12/11/2011 08:19

Does anyone else with the smug Thomas toy find that it occasionally pipes up from the bottom of the toy box when there is no one near it?

I was working from home the other day and kept hearing a sepulchral voice asking 'why don't you work hard like me?' while I was messing about on MN.

Most off-putting!

Clarabumps · 12/11/2011 08:40

Even the Thomas toys are smug though- "im a really useful engine" "i have my own branchline" WELL GOOD FOR FUCKING YOU!
I hate Thomas, Has anyone noticed that Justin looks a wee bit dead behind the eyes when he's doing the jokes on Gigglebiz? Kinda put me off him a wee bit- still love Dina Lady though.
I love Ben and Holly- especially BIg Bad Barry
love Octonauts
Hate I Can Cook with Smug Katie(thats her full name)
Hate Me Too- songs get in your head for days.

I think that it is a shame when adults look at children's books with an adult eye. DS1 adored the series, DS2 and 3 didn't care for them. I took them to the library and they had their own choice.

pictish · 12/11/2011 10:10

Snug Katie and the infuriating "let's try again...the secret ingredient, is white and bobbly....could it be...A BOBBLE HAT? NOOOO! You CAN'T eat a BOBBLE HAT! (grating fake chuckle)"

She makes me want to bite my own arm.

pictish · 12/11/2011 10:10

smug

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 12/11/2011 10:13

pictish - every time you post something I like you more and more.

She would be eating the bobble hat, if I could only reach through the screen to make her!

pictish · 12/11/2011 10:15

Hahahaaa! Quite! Grin

And thanks!

AmberNectarine · 12/11/2011 11:02

Oh FFS, while we may lookmat this dross stuff with an adult eye, we're clearly au fait enough with it that we're not depriving our DCs!

I think it's only natural to be full of sulphurous rage need a little vent after watching an episode of Balamory where Edie McCredie pronounces it 'Spice Gerrals' for the 68th time...

exoticfruits · 12/11/2011 11:06

DS is an adult now and I came across a recording of him discussing the book when aged 2 yrs-it was lovely, it gave him so much pleasure. It lasted such a short time-why be mean and deprive him because I loathed them?

pictish · 12/11/2011 11:22

Exoticfruits it is clear that Thomas has a special place in your heart, as your beloved son enjoyed him so much as a littlie. Totally understandable.

However, to accuse us of depriving our children is quite wrong. I think most of us encourage our kids in the things they love. It's sweet to see their enthusiasm.

We reserve the right to hate the sanctimonious, little blue twat, in our heads as much as we like though. You don't need to worry about it. Chill!

exoticfruits · 12/11/2011 13:44

He doesn't have a special place-I loathed him!

doradaisy · 12/11/2011 14:19

like the music though...

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 12/11/2011 22:23

I loathe Thomas pretty much because DS isn't deprived of him.

We could rename our house Sodding Sodor because of the volume of horrible train nonsense it is stuffed with. And I like trains, we love the train museum at York.

And I only rarely ad-lib whispered insults into the Thomas stories when we read the books (I promise).

spugglers · 12/11/2011 22:27

I don't mind the tv programme but the books are so dull it's unreal. I'm dull but i'm unable to make my voice boring enough to do them justice. When ds1 was small we had a rule that mummy would only read one Thomas book a week. Ds2 is starting to show an interest, what joy..

exoticfruits · 12/11/2011 23:40

DS didn't like the programme-he liked the books. They are dull.
