...the (most fecking boring) tank engine (in the world)?

I know he's a good example for kids, and little boys LOVE him and have done for years, but he does my tits in. Goody friggin twoshoes.

I quite like Chuggington, Timmy Time, Peppa. Also hate Balamory and that new shite the same company have put out, can't remember what you call it.

We adored Thomas and if you can get hold of copies of the original books written by the Rev W Awdry they are beautifully written and engagingly of their time. DS also loved the Benedict Blathwayte books also about trains.

We remember going up to bed with DS,me holding him at the font and DH holding me at the back - chugging up on the "bye bye night night Thomas choo choo train". We tease him about it now but we really used to do it!!

Tonksforthememories · 10/11/2011 21:28

Grrrr - Cbeebies in general.

Give me Phineas and Ferb any day.

ThatllDoPig · 10/11/2011 21:31

Thomas isn't always goodygoody. In 'Calling all engines' he deliberately starts all the hassle between the diesels and the steamies by playing tricks on diesel 10, and boasts all the time about how great he is compared to everyone else. And all the trains get pissed off with him when he causes the runway to crack.

CountingDown321 · 10/11/2011 21:38

YABU, but then we only watch the old episodes on DVD. And I've drawn the line at having plastic Thomas tat in the house.

TheScaryJessie · 10/11/2011 22:10

I saw a great piece of original artwork (for sale in a pasty shop) this week.

It's a sleeping Thomas, with some teenagers spraying graffiti on him! I want it!

Grainger · 10/11/2011 22:12

Is the graffitti labelling him a boring bastard? If it is, I want it too.

ThatllDoPig - you've watched them too often if you can name the episodes.

And no matter what happens, all the stories/episodes are the same.

Fat Controller: We have a special job/visitor/journey today.
Various Trains: Pick me, I'm Red/Shiny/Important/Number 1
FC: Because of the need for blatant, shameless marketing to flog some plastic tat I will pick...YOU!
Chosen Train (usually Thomas): Yay!
FC: But you must listen and do this/don't do that.
CT (UT): I promise.

FC: You have caused confusion and delay
CT (UT): With the help of my friends I can put this right.
Other Trains: We shall help you.
FC: You are all really useful engines.
The End
Adult Reader of Story: You are all vomit inducing suck monkeys who should be sold for scrap.

TheScaryJessie · 10/11/2011 22:28

Just generic tagging and artwork.

LuckyRocketshipUnderpants · 10/11/2011 22:29

Oh god, now I have the song in my head. We're TWO, we're FOUR, we're SIX, we're EIGHT, shunting trucks and hauling freight. My DD used to like Thomas then seemed to go off it, thank God. Now I have a baby boy on the way and I am dooooomed.

I also hate:
Peppa- (squeaky little brat)
Justin/Mr Tumble- creepy and wrong
Big Cook/Little Cook- irritating and have ever noticed all the highly inappropriate jokes with flying cream?
Come Outside- really, a visit to a brick factory? Zzzzzzz.

LaPruneDeMaTante · 10/11/2011 22:30

I got a compendium of all the old Thomas books for a fiver. What a bloody mistake.
Firstly, they don't scan. The old Rev was a bit of a crappy writer. Hellish to read aloud.
Secondly the constant and very direct and rude lesson is 'know your place, farking respect your farking elders you little toerag, and assert your place in the pecking order mercilessly if you get the slightest chance.'
Thirdly, Thomas and the Magic Railroad. Sad-faced Peter Fonda keeps Lady locked in the mountain but can't make her steam...so he gets Thomas in to get her going with his magic coal...flippin' nora.

sabrinathemiddleagedwitch · 10/11/2011 22:42

My brother very kindly bought ds a set of the original books 6 years ago and pissed off without reading him a single one. He is expecting his first child, a boy, in December. I have very sweetly kept the books in the loft because I know how much he will enjoy reading them to his son.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 10/11/2011 22:43

NoOnes - "Bricked up in tunnels to die"
I actually just wet myself.

Justin needs to die. Painfully.
He reminds me waaay too much of an old boss. Who was a cunt.

Special Agent Oso. Dont get me started on him Angry

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 10/11/2011 22:45

ScaryJessie - its a Banksy Grin

TheScaryJessie · 10/11/2011 22:47

Someone (not me) needs to find that art on the internet. It deserves to be bought, and I haven't got £15/£30 spare 'cos of pasty-buying!

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 10/11/2011 22:49

here you go...

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 10/11/2011 22:50

It's true though Beyond, we have the commemorative stamp to prove it.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 10/11/2011 22:50

Does the link load for you? It doesnt for me...? Just type banksy thomas into google if not Grin

TheScaryJessie · 10/11/2011 22:51

X-post!

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 10/11/2011 22:51

Ah, I believe you, I remember it from when I was little Grin

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 10/11/2011 22:53

Those were proper episodes. There are so many trains now though, I don't think Sodor has enough tunnels to kill them all.

Popbiscuit · 10/11/2011 22:55

YABU to hate Thomas but you are not being unreasonable to hate the new, CGI Thomas. CREEPY. Bring back the puppets.

perplexedpirate · 10/11/2011 22:58

DH sings:
"We're two, we're four, we're six, we're eight.
Pulling chicks and lifting weights".
Fits too well.

I hate the way all the engines have to prove they're "useful" so they don't end up melted down for scrap. Where's Dr Beeching when you need him?

RunWorkCook · 10/11/2011 22:59

I am made to sing that song at least half a dozen times a day..."Toby, well let's say he's square...". No he isn't, he's a rectangle grr!

ouryve · 10/11/2011 23:00

Love Thomas. Hate chuggington, but tolerate it because both the boys love it. The storylines are pants, though.

Timmy time and Octonauts are genius, though.

perplexedpirate · 10/11/2011 23:05

RunWorkCook I think you'll find he's oblong.
