Background: SIL got married recently, and is itching to get us round to watch the video. I have already been subjected to seen it and DP is of the opinion he was there so why does he need to sit through a 2 hour video.

Fast forward to this afternoon. Had a lovely afternoon at MIL's, SIL was there, talk turned to DP's friends birthday on Monday. I said "I really don't fancy it..can't you wheel out the old excuse about it interfering with DD's routine?" I then turned to SIL (who has no children yet) and said "You'd be amazed at the boring shit I've managed to get out of with that one - she's fine having a night out of routine really but they don't need to know that". All jovial and smiley and consipiritorially with SIL at this point.

We left shortly after, and I did think SIL was a bit quiet, then, as we drove off DP informs me that he had, in fact, used this very excuse to get out of going round there tomorrow night for dinner and wedding video viewing yesterday and not told me

I am mortified, feel awful and genuinely don't know what to say to make it any better....any suggestions?

Just consider that you have got the point across that not everyone wants to watch someone elses wedding video, without actually having to say it or do anything wrong. Your sil will know that you didn't know your DH had used the excuse, so if anything, she will be upset with him, not you. And you may well have saved other people from the trauma of a two hour wedding video.

Why in the world would your sil want to do that anyway?

Perhaps this is the wake up call SIL needs, other people's photos are dull.

SIL is only 23, and the wedding was a teensy bit precious. I think she's feeling a bit flat now it's all over. Personally I don't think it would have killed us to go, but DP isn't overly fond of her at the best of times and thought the wedding was totally OTT. I just wish he'd TOLD me we'd been invited.

Oops! Why don't you invite her to your house instead to watch the video so your dds routine is not disturbed? You can mn watch it in the comfort of your own home!

Oooh, thats a good idea, thanks Claimed. Perhaps, as revenge, I should organise it on a night when I'm at work and DP is at home with DD - after all, I have already seen it!

Somebody very kindly videoed my wedding and I couldn't bear to sit through it! How many times must SIL have seen it?

To my knowledge 6 members of DP's family and their partners have had a similar invitation plus the grooms parents, sister and grandparents. MIL has got her own copy, as have SIL PILs and GPILS, coming for Christmas. I'm alright though, as I have suggested she just buys for her DN from now on. I, believe it or not, am usually quite tactful and diplomatic in these matters!

I like claimed suggestion if only because you are going to be in each others lives for a long time.

Someone I worked with had quite a cool 5 min edited highlights version of his wedding video that a friend had put together, do you know anyone who could do that for your SIL or maybe it is something you could get done online. By the sounds of it it could save a lot of people a lot of time.
