To have thrown the turkey at MIL?

Had mil around for lunch today and at the same time I was preparing tonight's dinner. She kept looking at the turkey and said she wouldn't mind taking some home for her tea. No problem, I went to prepare some for her. She then said "actually..." and then stood there staring at it for a few minutes. At the same time I'm trying to cook dinner, prepare lunch and watch my 2 year old ds. She follows with "I do have some sausages in so maybe I won't bother." I said ok and went to put the turkey down, she then said "oh actually, it does look nice - hmm I can't decide!" so I said "well do you want some or not?" she said "yeah go on then!" so I go to prepare it again only for her to say "oh you know what, don't bother, I'll have the sausages". At this point there is a big crash i the living room, DS starts crying and mil said "no I WILL have some, do you want me to do it whilst you see to DS?" so I said "yes" and tossed the turkey to her and ran after DS. Moments later the back door opened and closed and MIL had left!! DH called her later to find out why she just walked out and she said it was because I'd thrown the turkey at her and it upset her. I told DH that she was faffing around, being awkward and deserved to be turkeyed. However I've since apologised for saying that (although secretely did mean it). So AIBU for losing patience?? this came 15 minutes after the "shall I or shant I have egg with my salad?" conversation so she was already on thin ice.

Ring her and explain that you threw the turkey TO her not AT her?

I'm not sure.. Was it a whole turkey?

celebmum · 30/10/2011 20:24

Depends.. If you threw it AT her then probably YWBABU... If you threw it TO her, and she's a shit catch then YANBU!

justonemorethread · 30/10/2011 20:26

This is why I love mumsnet! Turkeyed! Thanks for sharing, sorry for not being helpful!
Depends on the force and the manner in which you threw it at her I'd say!

DogsBeastFiend · 30/10/2011 20:27

:o I don't know if YWBU but I do know this... you've made my night! :o :o

lostinwales · 30/10/2011 20:28

CheeseandGherkins · 30/10/2011 20:28

Did you actually throw it or just shove it on the side next to her? If thrown, did she catch it?

lostinwales · 30/10/2011 20:28

Oh and best thread title for ages as well.

madonnawhore · 30/10/2011 20:29

She sounds so annoying! I would have thrown it at her a lot sooner.

happydotcom · 30/10/2011 20:31

Can you throw one at my MIL please :)

troisgarcons · 30/10/2011 20:31

bizarre.

People actually cook and eat turkey and you "threw" something hot out of the oven @ MIL ... or you were walking about modelling it and tossed it to her? Normal people would have dropped it on the worksurface

TurkeyBurgerThing · 30/10/2011 20:32

Would have been a bit much if it were. 16lb turkey straight out the oven!

comedycentral · 30/10/2011 20:33

Haha just read this out to my DP!

rushelle · 30/10/2011 20:33

Oh god, I'm laughing so much I almost weed. Btw did she take any of the turkey with her when she stormed out? Yanbu.

comedycentral · 30/10/2011 20:33

Oh and YANBU!

ThePathanKhansWitch · 30/10/2011 20:33

Was it frozen? It matters you know [hgrin].

mummyandpig · 30/10/2011 20:35

:o did it hit her in the face?

Katisha · 30/10/2011 20:35

Twas most rude of her to flounce out IMO. She should apologise to you really.

Have had similar here today though, although in our case MIL couldn't make the call on whether to stay for a pork chop here or go home and have the lamb chop in her fridge. The lamb chop won, but there was still a phone call regretting the decision afterwards...
