So I had a teeny weeny strop and binned a few of my Facebook friends. One has PMed me to ask why. The truthful answer is 'Because you are a Sun-reading fuckwitted bigot, however amusing you can be in the flesh, and you are one of those people who is forever reposting lame shit like 'OMG sign this petition to get the nonces of Facebook, if you don't put this on your status you must be a nonce yourself'.' I have sent a wussy, waffly PM back as this is someone I have known for ages, along the lines of it being easy to ignore different viewpoints when you socialise but less so on Facebook, and best wishes to you matey....

I think that's fair enough but you could also just have 'hidden' her and her witterings should have troubled you no more.

worraliberty · 08/10/2011 22:39

It's a bit late now but I would have just hidden her from the News Feed if I wanted to remain real life friends.

The new settings are great for that...you don't have to hide them completely anymore...just certain things they post.

ScarahStratton · 08/10/2011 22:39

I'm more evil than you, I just ignore the whining.

worraliberty · 08/10/2011 22:39

What Bats said but with a lot more waffle Blush

BatsUpMeNightie · 08/10/2011 22:39

Begone worra! Get out of my head!

worraliberty · 08/10/2011 22:40

But it's so nice and spacious in here!

Could do with a bit of a clean though Wink

Sassybeast · 08/10/2011 22:42

I'd congratulate myself on a job well done because if you're needy enough to be upset by being binned on FB.....

AgentZigzag · 08/10/2011 22:43

YANBU to use 'bollockery' in your title Grin

Or to bin the person in fb.

I wouldn't have sent them the message though, if you're not bothering with them, why would you bother?

Unless it's because you feel you owe them an explanation?

giyadas · 08/10/2011 22:46

Grin should've just stuck with your honest answer.

solidgoldbrass · 08/10/2011 22:47

I do feel a bit mean as have known the person in question for a good 15 years. Anyway, having recieved a grovelling apology for being offensive have now reinstated said person. And will use the 'hide' option in future.

OP posts:
wannaBe · 08/10/2011 22:47

I would have just ignored.

People who get upset over being deleted on fb are a bit pathetic, really.

I deactivated my facebook account about a month ago - twas very cathartic.

momnipotent · 08/10/2011 22:50

Ha! I had a good FB purge myself a few months ago and then about a month later someone messaged me to ask why. I wish I had had the ovaries to tell them the truth, which was that I was fed up of my newsfeed being clogged up with eye roll-worthy asshattery, but instead I provided a wishy-washy BS answer which led to loads of drama and people being pissed off about being de-friended. Incidentally, these are grown women, not 15 year olds! Apparently we are only 'real friends' if we are friends on FB. FFS.

I wish I had done one of the following:
Given the truthful reason for the defriend
Not responded at all
Thought of just hiding all the annoying people so I could avoid the drama

Flisspaps · 08/10/2011 22:51

I like your honest answer :)

shuckleberryfinn · 08/10/2011 22:52

ah, you see, what you do is you block them, shrug your shoulders, plead ignorance and blame facebooks latest update. :D

BatsUpMeNightie · 08/10/2011 22:57

the poo's in the post!

Groovee · 08/10/2011 23:01

what you do is change everything to friends only and non searchable and not on friends lists and you can't be found.

Lylah · 08/10/2011 23:20

wannaBe: " I deactivated my facebook account about a month ago - twas very cathartic."

I dream of how good that will feel when I get brave enough to do it. I so hate FB Sad

madonnawhore · 08/10/2011 23:22

My facebook timeline often reads like an idiot creche.

The 'hide' finger hovereth regularly.

Chipsycheese · 08/10/2011 23:24

When I deleted lots of annoying people I also changed one of the options so that people that are not Facebook 'friends' are unable to send a message - so no one could message me to ask why.

giyadas · 08/10/2011 23:26

I'd miss facebook, as I've family all over that I can keep up with easily through FB, plus feminist pages that I love, but I really hate the misogynist pages.
I just don't want to lose touch with my family

Chipsycheese · 08/10/2011 23:28

Yeah the downside is the most annoying friends are often the most entertaining.

Booooooyhoo · 08/10/2011 23:28

i have deleted people and then if asked why i say "i thought you deleted me, didn't want to ask why as i thought you must have had good reason" it's the cowards way but i'm sticking with it. Grin

giyadas · 08/10/2011 23:29

And they're my neighbours on Frontierville Wink

fannybaws · 08/10/2011 23:37

I feel your pain, Dp s sister actually asked him why I twice ignored her friend request!
Did she think he was going to make me friend her.Hmm

proudfoot · 09/10/2011 01:29

Haha Boooooyhoo that is a good response - I will use that!
