To wished I'd bought Iron On labels

I'm sitting sewing in name labels, its taking ages 6 shirts, 4 trousers, PE Kits, new coat, why oh why didn't I just buy iron ons?

Trousers have to be taken up too.

The coat cost £75 so have to sew in the regulation one at the back of the neck then a couple of hidden ones too.

So are you an iron on or a sew in?

Well.

I started off with good intentions - i bought labels with both my DC names on them, and sat and sewed several on.

After loosing the will to live, i went and bought a couple of Sharpie pens. Labelled with them. Job done.

The trouble with iron on labels is they eventually begin to peel and you have to sew them in anyway! So don't feel bad - you won't have to do the sewing again, unlike everyone who thinks they've got away with it but will have to buckle down eventually!! Grin

I was a permanent marker on labeller but have upgraded to Stikins that someone recommended on here. Hopefully they won't all fall off, they were so quick and easy to put in.

That's what the wash labels are for - writing on names. They quite often have an extra label just for the name too. I use ordinary ball point and just keep re-writing it. No big deal and really quick (learnt my lesson with iron ons that never sticked and I don't "do" sewing!)

Years ago, before my dd started reception I bought a whole load of iron on labels. I put them somewhere really safe and haven't seen them since. Now I just biro her name onto the age tag. Much quicker, and no sewing.

I got some iron on ones the same sort of material as the sew in ones and they were awful but my ds' friend had some fab ones that never peel/fade, they're from mynametags.com and you get 75 for lunch boxes etc too. I got some for both ds' and they're so much easier.

I use my sewing machine, It never occurred to me to had sew them! Takes about 20 mins to do the lot.

I quite like doing it. Have finished all dd2's now - just need to do the hanging loops later. And now to move onto dd1's. Only got a few bits of hers though, as can't get uniform until she starts there. So can do trousers/socks etc but will have to wait until the end of the week to fo polo shirts, fleece etc.

It doesn't look as nice when done with a Sharpie

I can second www.mynametags.com/, they iron on but they actually stay on, they kind of merge into the fabric.

It may not look as nice, but it stops all the arguments about who owns what garment, eapecially when the sewn in ones can get ripped or cut out. It's a bit difficult to hide six inch high letters with 'Deementeds sons name' written on it!

Sewing in name labels goes into my 'Life's too short' folder, along with stuffing mushrooms etc. etc.

i just did mine tonight, i dragged out the sewing machine can't be faffed sewing by hand and the iron on ones always rub off

YABU - either use a marker pen or buy yourself an Easy Tag kit from Easy2Name.

Iron on labels peel off.

My son is growing way too fast to buy clothes in July never mind label them.

Notes to self to stop feeding him. Grin

Am I a bad mum if I don't own a sewing machine. I might have a Singer in the shed but I think I'd need to get the WD40 out.

just ordered some more name tage from above link. I have had these before and they do last.

I have stick on, iron on and a pen. Nobody ever said I was not prepared! Wink

I love sewing in the labels Smile. I bought the uniform in July and did each item as I bought it.

I refuse to iron anything, I'm certainly not going to start with faffy labels.

Another vote for the mynametags iron on ones. They do not come off in the wash. Plus I iron them onto the care label if necessary and they stick like glue. It was £10.00 for 75 iron on labels and 75 stick on ones for bottles and the like. The stick on ones survive the dishwasher.

I do hanker after the embroidered ones though.

Yes yes yes www.mynametags.com like the others said. They sort of 'become one' with the fabric and vie not had one fall off in the 3 years that my son has been at nursery/school. And a sharpie pen of course for things are not ironable, like a PVC P.E. bag and my kids' arms when we go somewhere Busy and Scary (write my telephone number on them).
