why do they wait until your are dieing for a wee and then just hiiiiiide at the top of the stairs with their 8 legs? You try to be kind, thinking NO NO, I will NOT kill the spider, but it is so gigantic it will not fit in the pint glass. It moves faster than concorde. It is possibly the size of a small country (give or take).

Spiders seem to get bigger and bigger, the one I seen last night was scary looking..... And I usually don't get scared

The monstrosities that have been lurking in my house lately dont have webs to catch flies, they have little houses that they have built somewhere well out of the way of any randomly passing fly.

I reckon they sneak to the dogs bowl at night and eat his dinner... wont be long before they are emptying the fridge.

We had a massive one in our kitchen yesterday, It was huge.

I know they do not hurt or anything like that but they just send shivers up my spine.

I have some nice sized furry little buggers in the conservatory, they are killing the flies, that is fine, I have named them (Harry, Ron and Hermione). BUT, and omg BUT, the tarantula sized thing that was on the wall leading upstairs, I cannot go to the toilet without checking it has gone!

Yesterday, one the size of a labrador ran across the living room. I swear it stopped, turned and gave me a 'come and ave a go if you think you're hard enough' look, just before it ran behind the sofa.

Of all the questions to ask my maker when the wave comes in 2012 (as my neice says) I will ask, what the eff is up with wasps, and why the spiders.

This is what I used to do when giant spiders from Hell infected my house back when I was a student:

A large hardback book dropped from a height will work. Or for the speedy, clever ones, a can of air-freshener (or any other aerosol spray) and a hammer used together will also work well (the spray will stun it or bring it out from under the wardrobe and the hammer will kill it).

I am sorry to all those spider lovers out there if this sounds harsh but there were so many of them that I had to take drastic action if I was ever going to sleep in that house.

I no longer use these tactics as I now have a small dog who is able to take care of them for me!

Our mutant spiders are so big that the floor shakes when they stomp past. At least I have a warning that they are coming.

What is it about late August / early September that makes them emerge in packs like this?

I am v v scared of them.

I keep reading these threads not in the hope of curing myself (am well beyond that!) but as a kind of talisman to prevent them coming into my house. Because once I see one, I can't sleep until DS1 has caught it.

And DS1 is now a teenager and increasingly truculent about doing anything around the house, let alone spider trapping

I thought I had cured myself when my dd was in the pram, no older than 2, we went to one of those butterfly/animal/weird farms.

I held a pink toe/knee tarantula in my hand. The strange thing about the big buggers is that they don't look or feel like spiders. It was just a big furry thing (hehe wey hey) and it barely moved.

The giant 200mph thing at the top of the stairs?? Pass me a firm slipper.

HeHe PolarBear - I had to close my side gate tonight, gardener had left it open and I had to bolt it, had to walk through at leat 4 cobwebs. Brought TWO furry feckers in with in me on my dressing gown. Live in Lancashire, it is spider city!
