To want to go on holiday!!

Problem is with stepson as well it takes the cost up for next year from £2500 (for me hubby and 2 boys)to £4000 if we take step son as well.
Really dont want my boys to miss out on a holiday, we could afford £ 2500 but £4000 just can't stretch to, it's cos we would need an extra room if stepson came as the rooms only fit 4. Husband thinks it's a complete no no not to take him but he does go away with his mum, not abroad though!
Don't want to be the evil step mum but really would like to get a holiday next next!!

Take him but go on a different holiday that you can afford for all.

Assuming Step Son is not an adult, then I think your DH is absolutely right not to go on holiday without one of his children. If he can't afford for his whole family to go on that holiday then you'll all have to go on a different one.

Choose a different holiday. Many places do offer family of 5 rooms.

Choose a different holiday. We have got 4 kids including DSD and have never been on holiday without her. She is just as much my husbands child as the others!

We have never paid that much for a holiday either, and we always go for 2 weeks during the school hols.

I would echo others and say your Dh is right. If you want a relationship with your step son and don't want to harm his relationship with his father don't go without him. As a step child I would find this a personal and hurtful act.

Where are you hoping to go for your holiday, and how old are your dc and dss?

Looking at Majorca ds1 is 5 and ds2 is 3 dss is 11

You could easily rent a private villa with pool for the £2.5k you are talking about somewhere like Majorca. That would take all 5 of you. Given the age of DSS I think it would actually be cruel unreasonable not to take him.

£2500 would get you 2 weeks in a moblile home and ferry crossing/tolls etc easily. He could have his own room.

Rent a villa or apartment and get the flight separately. There are some lovely places available to rent in Majorca, many with their own pools too or right on the sea front, and the low cost airlines like easyjet fly to Majorca too which can make a big difference to your budget. Hire a car, rent some bikes and get out exploring. far nicer than a hotel anyway imo.

Look at some of the places available on Villa Parade, Holiday Lettings and Holiday Rentals.

We'vve used Villa parade for accomodation only in Majorca and the other two sites in other places in the UK and Europe.

I know I am going to get it in the neck for this but here goes -

Its not her child and I can totally understand her wanting to take her children to somewhere in particular. And I think shes entitled to do that.

If stepson goes away with his mother, and you go away with your two, could you arrange a short break for all 5 of you later in the year?

And villas end up costing a lot more - I havent looked at the link but does it include 5 flights for the price? Even if so, you have cater for yourself, which bumps costs up.

Rather strangely, we were in booking up for next year yesterday and the travel agent couldnt find us anything in Italian Lakes as they dont seem to have rooms that sleep 4. They suggested 2 rooms but a lot of them were not interconnecting and I wouldnt like my own 11/12 year old in a hotel room opening onto a corridor all night.

These are for August for a week rught in middle of school holidays. May half term would be cheaper. We've been to majorca at October half term and also at Easter and both times had really lovely warm weather - warm enough both times for DD to be in the sea.

One week at Longleat Centreparks, starts from 800 quid for all of you, last week of May 2012; goes up to about 1.6k for all of you the first week of June 2012.

yabu to have such a specific holiday experience in mind as the only acceptable one. What CatGirl said.

rhonda it is unreasonable to insist on going somewhere specific if you can't afford that somewhere specific.

Only Unreasonable if a specific destination means excluding one of the DC who is supposed to be an equal part of the family.
