DH bathing with DD's

Chica31 · 14/07/2011 17:57

Are we being unreasonable or my narc mother?

DH gets in the bath with DD's 2.1 years and 6 months. Not every night, but often and has done since DD1 was born.

My DM thinks it is very wrong.

We live in a hot country and DD1 likes to take all her clothes off in the house when it is just us. DM skyped us the other day and went mad.

Who is right? Am I harming my children?

She sounds rather silly.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 14/07/2011 17:59

She sounds ridiculous.

QueenOfAllBiscuitsandMuffins · 14/07/2011 17:59

Next time she questions it ask exactly what she thinks the problem is.

paddypoopants · 14/07/2011 18:00

Your DM is a loon!

Nanny0gg · 14/07/2011 18:00

Of course you're not.
Ignore her.

BecauseImWorthIt · 14/07/2011 18:00

You will harm them more if you give them a complex about being naked.

HalfTermHero · 14/07/2011 18:00

Ignore her. She is making a fuss over nothing. Yanbu.

usualsuspect · 14/07/2011 18:00

She sounds barmy

skybluepearl · 14/07/2011 18:01

silly woman

AgentZigzag · 14/07/2011 18:01

Course you're not harming your children!

DC love running around with nowt on, your DD is in her own home anyway.

What's it got to do with your mum?

Hulababy · 14/07/2011 18:01

Your dm is being very silly.

There is nothing wrong at all in your DH enjoying a simple bath with his daughters.

Would she feel the same about a mum bathing with her toddler son too?

spatchcock · 14/07/2011 18:01

She's a mentalist. I have lovely memories of bathing with my dad :)

Lainey1981 · 14/07/2011 18:02

Your DM is being unreasonable. Perfectly natural for children to run around naked. Forcing them to keep their clothes on(all the time) can lead to hang uPs and teeach them that their body is something to be ashamed of.
As for dh bathing with dd's don't see a problem with that either. I occasionally have a bath with ds 7.5 months, lovely bonding time.

balia · 14/07/2011 18:03

The clue this one is 'narc mother'. Don't let her make you crazy, ignore ignore ignore.

lovesicecream · 14/07/2011 18:03

She's being Daft, have you asked her what the problem is? There just babies, all my children loved to be naked at that age, most grow out of it! My 8 year old hasn't liked anyone but me and his dad to see him naked from the age of 5

Punkatheart · 14/07/2011 18:04

How sad. The saddest bit is that she is only one with the dirty mind. Sounds innocent and exactly what my OH did with DD when she was little. Until she did a little poo in the bath and he decided not to get in there again!

RunAwayWife · 14/07/2011 18:04

It sounds like she has some deep seated issues. Do you think she was ever a victim of abuse?

I don't think YABU at all but maybe you should ask her why she has such issue with it

Chica31 · 14/07/2011 18:05

wow, you lot are quick!

She has a real problem with being naked.

She isn't happy that I bfed out and about either. Oh well her problem!

Ds is 4yo and if I have a bath during the day I have to have it very quietly otherwise he comes rushing upstairs shedding clothes on the way and leaps in on top of me. Nearly went badly wrong for him one day when I was washing a rug in cold water. Grin I grabbed him just before he landed in it !
He's walk round all day wearing nothing, and often strips off. We're not in a hot country either.
I don't see the problem. I'm sure he will grow out of it. He doesn't do it out of the house.

diddl · 14/07/2011 18:06

HIBU for having a bath in a hot countryGrin

I used to get in the bath with ours (one of each)

And would shower with them both.

Husband hates baths, but has showered with them.

They are teenagers now & will walk around in underwear if hot.

And we all sometimes see each other naked if someone has just got out of the shower &someone else goes in the bathroom.

Chica31 · 14/07/2011 18:07

Because what would happen if we all were naked?

Then I back down and don't answer, we makes me question myself all the time.

she makes...sorry, typing one handed while I feed DD

My DDs were a few years older than yours when I went outside to call them in for a meal to find them bouncing up and down on the trampoline - naked. We are not in the countryside, at least 5 other gardens would've been subjected to this sight!

Kids LOVE being naked!

Chica31 · 14/07/2011 18:11

True, baths aren't very environmentally friendly. Only in Spain.

YANBU. My MIL makes me doubt myself. Started reading a great book (recommended on here) which is helping me a lot!
