I boycott Starbucks (bad coffee, too ubiquitous), and any film with Scientologists in it. Tom Cruise, you're dead meat!

What do you boycott?

Thingumy · 12/06/2011 00:33

I've worked for Butlins....

I wouldn't EVER stay there even if you paid me.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 12/06/2011 00:34

Newspapers. All of them.

Recently had someone coming to the door asking if we'd subscribe to the local paper. I looked at him like he had two heads and said 'erm... we have the internet?' and he told me I was resonsible for the death of the published word.

Tosser.

spiderslegs · 12/06/2011 00:34

Teetotalers

(Speaks as a former sub-editor)

Yukana · 12/06/2011 00:35

Orange, McDonalds, Barclays, Starbucks, Subway, Lloyds, Happy Eggs, etc.

Awomancalledhorse · 12/06/2011 00:36

Dontcallmepeanut, everyday I catch a Chris Brown article/music video, I feel like an idiot for not 'getting' why the heck he's still popular. Really, reall annoys me.

And when all the 'luvvies' stuck up for Polanski last year(?) when he was under house arrest..grrrrh! Angry
DH thinks I'm weird for 'banning' Mel Gibson films from the house, glad to know there is someone else out there who chooses not to watch films with people like him in, didn't know about Tom Sizemore though...he's going to be at the London Movie Expo next month, might consider popping down & having a word or two!

reelingintheyears · 12/06/2011 00:36

Who ..Moseley (sic) the weirdy..?

maisiedooright · 12/06/2011 00:37

Any shop that sell fur
Primark...always found myself tidying up if I ever went in..how sad am I!!!
Newspapers...can't believe anything they print!

Pandemoniaa · 12/06/2011 00:38

Sake! My reply was intended for JarethTheGoblinKing. But I'm not at all bitter about the way that perfectly good newspapers have now turned into poorly printed tabloid rags packed full of "user-generated" news and out of focus pictures taken on mobile phones. Not at all bitter.

Pandemoniaa · 12/06/2011 00:39

All the Mosleys, reelingintheyears.

reelingintheyears · 12/06/2011 00:41

Most of them are dead pandemoniaa.

DontCallMePeanut · 12/06/2011 00:41

Awomancalledhorse he trends so regularly on twitter that it infuriates me. Gets a few sarcastic tweets every time. I have no time for women beaters or misogynists.

LOL, i don't want to say too much because we've not been to court yet but hoseasons are suing me for cancelling a holiday after they made my home address and date of said holiday available to god knows who on the internet, and let me view someone else's details. i may as well hang a 'please burgle me' sign on the door when we go away Hmm

reelingintheyears · 12/06/2011 00:50

thursday.... blimey..does not sound good..

Good luck.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 12/06/2011 00:53

I'm not responsible for anything Pandemonia having never actually bought a newspaper Wink

I used to read the Sunday Times when my Dad bought it, but personally I've never seen the point in spending money every day on something that can be accessed for free, and is also a huge waste of natural resources (so ner)

However, most people I know read the Guardian, live their lives by the Guide and wouldn't be without it (they are londoners though, so I'll forgive them)

thursday · 12/06/2011 00:54

thanks, i was angry enough that we're now not getting a holiday this year, and that they ignored all requests of mine to have my deposit returned as they forced me to cancel and didn't keep my details secure, so to have court papers land on the mat last week was unbelievably rude. i have the uber rage!

Lovecat · 12/06/2011 00:54

Giraffe, after they sent me an email ad entitled PIMP YOUR PIZZA and refused to understand why I found their use of the word "Pimp" deeply offensive (and factually incorrect, as they weren't expecting me to put the pizza out on the streets for money). Their PR woman in her response basically told me I was old-fashioned and had no sense of humour. Maybe I am/don't, but those buggers don't get my money any more.

Israeli fruit

Battery eggs (adds Happy Eggs to the list, this thread is v. informative)

Seaworld/Dolphin type parks

Budweiser - they own Seaworld

Nestle

Halal/Kosher meat

Crepe Affair in Spitalfields Market - possibly the worst, most indifferent and downright RUDE customer service I have EVER had in my life.

Shell Petrol (because of Ken Saro-Wiwa)

JarethTheGoblinKing · 12/06/2011 00:57

I knew there was something wrong with happy eggs! I could tell by the smell of them (while pregnant - bloodhound nose) that they were just as bad as barn eggs. grrr. they make me ill too

JarethTheGoblinKing · 12/06/2011 00:57

Oh, Republic, because their staff are just evil and look at me like I'm scum

Pandemoniaa · 12/06/2011 01:01

I know that most of the Mosleys are dead reelingintheyears but they were all abominable fascists supported by a fascist newspaper. Also I have a very long memory. Even for things that aren't in my living memory.

mashyup · 12/06/2011 01:02

I boycott a local family zoo/play park called Noahs Ark because its run by creationists with posters everywhere saying how evolution is wrong. But I am a hypocrite because I took the kids when they were too little to read, because it was handy

ResurrectionByChocolate · 12/06/2011 01:27

John Lewis - crap customer service (online and telephone) - they just try to fob you off.

reelingintheyears · 12/06/2011 01:32

Pandemoniaa....how long does one keep these things going.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 12/06/2011 01:39

RBC - you'll have stirred up the John Lewis Appreciation Society with that comment Wink

(p.s. I love them and have always found them amazing)

TheBride · 12/06/2011 01:43

Very little because I think it's extremely difficult to be consistent, and I like to be fair Grin

I tend not to buy certain products (e.g. battery eggs, intensively reared meat) but I don't boycott any companies or countries.

Without wanting to be overly combative, I think the Nestle boycott is slightly ridiculous since the people that boycott Nestle don't boycott other companies whose activities arguably cause more problems than those of Nestle.
