I boycott Starbucks (bad coffee, too ubiquitous), and any film with Scientologists in it. Tom Cruise, you're dead meat!

What do you boycott?

DBF I couldn't agree more. That's truly horrifying, the extent it all goes to. DB's dog was one of the lucky ones.

DogsBestFriend · 12/06/2011 00:05

Agree with the dog food Trinaluce.

Another thing - I bank with the Coop, which although not perfect professes to be more ethical in its investments.

greencolorpack · 12/06/2011 00:05

I boycott all forms of "loyalty cards" and am promiscuous in my grocery shopping choices. I go all over the place. Nobody gets all my household money, and I'm staying off the "grid", nobody's going to gather data on all the consumer choices I make.

I boycott television shows that glorify bullying like X Factor, Britain's Got Talent, Strictly Come and have a go at Ballroom Dancing if you think you're Hard Enough, that one with the winky crone Anne Robinson where she says bitchy things to fat people cos they're fat.

The Mikado bar because they had an advert about some Japanese lass photocopying her own muff by accident. How on EARTH did that get past the censors!!!!! Shocking. I would also boycott the Vauxhall cars cos of that horrible advert with the glove puppet showing off its tackle to a "pretty lady" and she's looking all "Oooooh!" like every red-blooded woman fantasises about being flashed at by fecking glove puppets. That's just WRONG.

DogsBestFriend · 12/06/2011 00:06

Beer, my G G Grandfather lost his house to Dr Barnardo in a game of cards. I don't think that the family have ever quite forgiven either man!

Awomancalledhorse · 12/06/2011 00:08

Woops! Forgot about Iams.
Pets at home too; sells sick animals, mis-sexes them, ill trained staff & pretty shitty conditions for animals in every store I've been in.

AND Mel Gibson films, racist fuckwit. Roman Polanski films too!

I boycott the jockey club alongside trainers

I know of a well known trainer who fucked up royally (horse fractured leg whilst out training and wasn't given treatment, owner was called in 2 weeks later and only then was the horse was shot after 2 weeks of hell)

All was covered up by the powers of trainer and jockey club.

Pandemoniaa · 12/06/2011 00:12

The Salvation Army, Nestle, Walmart, the Daily Mail (for more than just the obvious reasons but also because the Rothermeres supported Franco in the Spanish Civil War), Starbucks, Focus DIY (before they went bust) a pet shop in Burgess Hill which sells farmed puppies and a group of drummers who haven't worked out that you don't nick other people's gigs.

I wont give to Barnado's either. My G Grandad left his substantial fortune to them, leaving his family (my Grandma and Grandad who'd looked after him for years) penniless. His street of houses that he'd built, horses and pig farm...all gone to Barbloodynado's.

DontCallMePeanut · 12/06/2011 00:17

Oooh, AWomanCalledHorse, I'm studying Film at university, and last semester we had to sit through Chinatown. I hadn't been upp to date on the viewing list, so didn't realise it was due up. I hit the roof after the screening, literally. I am not willing to sit through any film made by a child molester, especially one where an incestuous child molester gets away with his crimes.

I also boycott any films made by or starring men guilty of domestic abuse, or child abuse. Mel Gibson is firmly on that list, along with Charlie Sheen, Tom Sizemore, Christian Slater. On the same basis, I strongly boycott music by Chris Brown.

Boycotted M+S for 20 years, and still only go in there once in a blue moon.

When VAT went up to 17.5%, M+S plastered the fact that they were keeping prices down to the 15% level all over the papers. Good old M+S everyone thought!

I was, at the time, working for a supplier to M+S. As the VAT increase occurred, M+S immediately cut all their payments for our products by 2.5%, so in fact, it was the suppliers paying for the VAT increase, NOT M+S!

So I've paid them back in my own little tights and knicker way.

DogsBestFriend · 12/06/2011 00:21

Historically, I know that Dr Barnardos is the pits. I guess that the intention was good, to send children of the poor to a better life to Canada etc to live with what were thought to be caring families, teach them a trade and give them land and a life when they grew up but the real result of the British Home Children scheme was an unmitigated disaster.

reelingintheyears · 12/06/2011 00:23

Tell me about IAMs please....

gordongrumblebum · 12/06/2011 00:23

Oh yes, and poppies. Worked for a housing association and found that the poppy appeal wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

SpringHeeledJack · 12/06/2011 00:25

oooh yes, all the banks. 'Cept the co-op

Thingumy · 12/06/2011 00:26
SpringHeeledJack · 12/06/2011 00:26

SpringHeeledJack · 12/06/2011 00:28

i hate these threads, they always make me feel shit for being too skint to boycott half the known world. and now i know that i but the wrong eggs too! ffs, its impossible to be ethical on a pittance, because every single company has something shit they do to people.

having said that, i boycott:

easyjet (easy, i've not been able to go on a forrin holiday for 5 years anyway, but if i did!
Argos online
hoseasons
mean eggs (or so i thought)
i try and only buy british meat though again, not always entirely clear.

ravenAK · 12/06/2011 00:28

Nestle, any shampoo etc that doesn't say it isn't tested on animals, the Grand National.

Bars at live music venues that only serve shite warm fizzy beer, the manufacturer (can't call it brewing...) of which has their name as part of the venue's name.

Especially when they charge you £4 for a can of earwax flavoured suds AND insist on pouring it into a bucket made of hopelessly brittle & non-recyclable plastic just in case you decide to use the can as a weapon.

I've reverted to smuggling in a hip flask like I used to 25 years ago when I was too young to be sure of getting served Grin.

SpringHeeledJack · 12/06/2011 00:32

eee thursday- why hoseasons?

c'mon, give us the shit

Pandemoniaa · 12/06/2011 00:33

I forgot to mention Ryanair. Under no circumstances whatsoever will I fly with them.
