I boycott Starbucks (bad coffee, too ubiquitous), and any film with Scientologists in it. Tom Cruise, you're dead meat!

What do you boycott?

DontCallMePeanut · 11/06/2011 23:36

Unfortunately, DS loves their Pizzas. I now blame Mummy's diet Grin Well, until he's old enough to understand...

LadyThumb · 11/06/2011 23:37

Battery farmed eggs.

reelingintheyears · 11/06/2011 23:38

Peanut it was in all the papers and i don't think they have changed their policy.

shineoncrazydiam0nd · 11/06/2011 23:38

Asda

Morrissons

Tescos

Aldi

The grand National

jasper · 11/06/2011 23:38

nothing
boycotts are pointless . pissing in the wind

DontCallMePeanut · 11/06/2011 23:38

I'd never heard about the Happy Eggs thing... bastards. :(

SpringHeeledJack · 11/06/2011 23:39

ooh and Tescos

unless I need gluten free onion bhajees

SoloIsAHotCougar · 11/06/2011 23:40

Oh yes, aspartame, never buy anything with aspartame in it.

Awomancalledhorse · 11/06/2011 23:40

Nestle, P&G, unilever, loreal, walmart, morrisons...any company that tests on animals really!

Lush (don't agree with the politics of the owner bloke).

High street chain coffee stores, as it's all pap!

Being friends with Manchester United fans Grin

QuoththeRaven · 11/06/2011 23:40

yeah i know :( actually made me cry. I always bought them as I thought they were free ranged, now buy our eggs from a farm where we see the chickens running about all day. DS loves watching them

DontCallMePeanut · 11/06/2011 23:40

Why Morrisons, Shineon?

Agree with the Grand National, though...

Ohh, and BT, because of the way they hold a monopoly over the UK. Or used to.

DogsBestFriend · 11/06/2011 23:43

Meat and dairy (am vegan) battery eggs and 'value' milk (kids are vegetarian).

Herbal Essences because of the animal experiments, Proctor and Gamble, Happy Eggs (well said Quoth!), Iams and various others because of animal abuse.

Madame Butterfly fashion store for selling rabbit fur - my DDs love their trendy dresses but since learning of the fur sale won't patronise them either.

Loads of similar ones, I'm amazed that there is anything I can purchase!

reelingintheyears · 11/06/2011 23:43

Boycotts aren't pointless...

They tell multinationals that their practices are immoral...

Continue to support immoral companies if you so wish but don't tell the rest of us that we are 'pissing in the wind' because you can't be arsed to try and educate yourself and make a change.

Thingumy · 11/06/2011 23:44

Heard aboutnot so fucking happy eggs.

Bastards.

I buy local range (currently building our own chicken coop)

I'm against most products that still animal test but I will hold my hand up and say I'm not 100% shit hot on it.

I ate in burger king last week which was the first time in over 2 years, never have I had the shitty service as there.Ordered takeout and girl put our order straight on the counter...chips on counter spilling out, burger boxes slopped half open and then handed us or brown takeoutbags so we could bag it up off the counter ourselves and fuck off.

I will never eat in burger king again.

DogsBestFriend · 11/06/2011 23:45

Yes to the Grand National and any racing, horse or dog, and (though I wouldn't bet anyway) anything associated with betting organisations which rely on Greyhound/horse racing.

Awoman I agree with the Man U fans bit :o but why Lush?

BiggestPiggyOnTheFarm · 11/06/2011 23:48

Nothing, can't be arsed really.

reelingintheyears · 11/06/2011 23:48

Most of us buy what we can afford..
Myself included..

So i shop at ASDA and at ALDI.

But i try to buy the best that they offer in terms of free range eggs and 'organic' meat..

But i don't have to go to MacDonalds and Pizza Hut or put money on the Grand National.

DontCallMePeanut · 11/06/2011 23:51

"Herbal Essences because of the animal experiments, Proctor and Gamble, Happy Eggs (well said Quoth!), Iams and various others because of animal abuse." Hadn't heard of these companies being involved... adds to boycott list

Agree with Reeling My BF llets me know what she's boycotting and vice versa.

Ooh, and dog racing. My older DB adopted a greyhound, who was at the vets to be put down, for the sole reason she was too old to race. She lived another 10 years.

Jonnyfan · 11/06/2011 23:53

Trans fats

shineoncrazydiam0nd · 11/06/2011 23:55

Why morrisons? I just think it's a horrible supermarket. I went in once. Fruit terrible- all mouldy within a day - and tasted rank too

You don't get that with waitrose you know : )

DontCallMePeanut · 11/06/2011 23:56

dreams of the day she can afford waitrose Grin

wubblybubbly · 11/06/2011 23:59

Dominos. Bunch of bandits.

DogsBestFriend · 12/06/2011 00:00

Peanut, if anyone needs a reason to refuse to attend a social "Night at the dogs", this is it,

Greyhounds are killed or thrown out as pups if they don't make the grade and generally abandoned after their racing career is over ar 4 or 5 years of age max. Some, if they are lucky, reach rescue, many, mnay hundreds if not thousands, are killed, by being shot or taken to the vet, or thrown out, sometimes with their ears cut off or with acid burned onto their ears to prevent the owner being traced via the dog's ear tattoos.

The RSPCA reckon that only a fraction of Greyhounds born or imported into the UK (generally from Ireland) ever reach a rescue or any statistics. Thousands just "disappear".

Trinaluce · 12/06/2011 00:01

McDonalds - because I got a parking ticket for being in there for more than 90 minutes a few weeks ago (£100 ticket for using the business I parked up for, was with mum having a social chat and many many cups of tea.) Going to fine your customers for using your business? Don't get the business then, morons.

IAMS - Animal cruelty

Dog food containing anything with the word 'derivative' in it - meat/vegetable/fat derivatives are all basically rotten and not fit for consumption, yet because it's for dogs that's apparently not a problem. We changed from an expensive brand-named dog food full of derivatives to a less-well-known derivative-free brand years ago, and the dog was happier, brighter and easier to train within weeks of the diet change.

Thingumy · 12/06/2011 00:04

yes agree with Iams
