She's always annoyed me. I found her an attention-seeking, madonna-wannabe, irritating one-trick pony, BUT.... I turned to BBC3 this eve just as her concert started, found myself watching it and, er, I'm really impressed! She's don't all this jazz and piano stuff and is brilliant.

I feel slightly Blush about this. Was I always wrong? Has she developed as an 'artist'?! Have I had one too many Wine?! What's going on??!!!

doing not "don't"

(I guess that lends support to the Wine theory...)

i loved listening to her chat on graham norton, much to my surprise. she's funny and friendly.

Crevix · 15/05/2011 22:21

Bruno Mars earlier was also v good. wish i'd been there.

BertieBotts · 15/05/2011 22:22

I think she's fab. I'm not even really a fan of pop in general, but she's good. They say she's the biggest artist in the world at the moment, and I can see why.

BadPoet · 15/05/2011 22:23

YANBU, she's pretty impressive. And really young too! (25 or something?)

baskingseals · 15/05/2011 22:24

was just thinking the same thing
she's singing in italian now

Greenapples1 · 15/05/2011 22:25

I cant stop watching her. There is something about her and so talented.

Terraviva · 15/05/2011 22:27

Phew!!! Thanks for the reassurance! Her first couple of hits just made me think - pah, whatever. I just didn't understand the global hype at all, but now I've seen her live (well, on tv!) I totally get it.

I swing between thinking she's either an absolute basket case or very-very clever.

She's created such a vivid alter-ego that if she put on jeans and a t-shirt and walked down the street I'm sure most people wouldn't recoginse her. That must be quite liberating for someone with her level of fame.

WickedWitchSouthWest · 15/05/2011 22:30

Yep, amazing. Would love to go and see her live now. Considering this is a free concert for the beeb and the effort and thought that's gone into it, I imagine her big shows are incredible!

She is seriously talented. Go to to YouTube and search for Stephanie Germanotta. She is awesome!

EricNorthmansMistress · 15/05/2011 22:35

I agree! She's a fantastic artist. Her music is a bit pop for my taste, though I loved a few songs, but she's amazing live! A proper singer, energetic, fantastic dancer, with a wide range of styles. Her look is unique and creative. Can't fault her!

springydaffs · 15/05/2011 22:39

aw I'm so disappointed I missed it! Sad

I think she's fantastic

I expect it'll pop up on the beeb's website very shortly...

I don't think she has created any of that, she's manufactured pop at it's height, I think some marketing & music bods had the 'concept' of the act they wantde to create, and made her into it

If you took away all the nonsense she possibly can sing, but the act I don't buy is her creation at all

HalfPastWine · 15/05/2011 22:44

Fred Just YouTubed her. Wow, her early stuff is just as good too. She looks so different!

springydaffs · 15/05/2011 22:52

Sasparilla, it's moreorless all her stuff - there is no way marketing/music bods would come up with anything like that.

MCos · 15/05/2011 22:55

I thought Lady Gaga was fairly impressive on American Idol. She seemed to really know her stuff. Seemed to be one of the better celeb. mentors.

Terraviva · 15/05/2011 22:59
Her voice reminds me of Christina Aguilera, but without sounding quite so try-hard with all those trills Christina does.

Sarsaparilllla · 15/05/2011 23:04

I'm not saying she's not a talented singer, but I don't think that the alter-ego image is all her idea

Springydaffs - why could a single person could come up with it but not marketing/music bods who put together hundreds of acts Confused

Sarsaparilllla · 15/05/2011 23:06

Oops, pressed send too soon, I just think it's similar to how music bods will put together a boy or girl band to suit an image they have in mind, but with a single artist

chimchar · 15/05/2011 23:10

I was really impressed. I shed a tear when she sang the on the edge song. I had no idea she was so great on the piano, and I loved her jazzy bits!

So, yadnbu.

BubblesMyBubbles · 15/05/2011 23:13

Absolutely brilliant and completely agree with chimchar
YASNBU!
