i went in there to look ( indesperation) for a gift for a new mum - was thinking some gear or some clothes. WHat a hell hole. Naff logoed clothes, sterile shopping area, stroppy be-polyestered staff and a general air of tiredness

AIBU to sugggest that Mothercare has Lost its way?

It's OK, I have got a couple of nice clothes for my baby in there, but most of it is horrible, not particularly good quality and over priced for what it is.

I do have friends and family who view it as a 'premium' brand though. Hmm

NoahFence · 10/05/2011 15:21

they are common though arent they though midori? Wink

AT least you can get your kids come chelsea pyjamas there. urghh

do you live in a particularly rough area yourself op Wink

NoahFence · 10/05/2011 15:29

tsk

jeckadeck · 10/05/2011 15:31

terrible. Both hideously overpriced and lacking in imagination. And, as you say, the staff don't know their arse from their elbow. H&M baby clothes are better quality and about a third of the price. That shop is going to go under, in this retail climate, if it isn't careful.

GypsyMoth · 10/05/2011 15:32

most have an elc shop within them now, ours has toys out

i wouldnt expect a cafe in a shop....why??

NoahFence · 10/05/2011 15:33

all they do is drink coffee

YANBU I hate the place.

BelovedCunt · 10/05/2011 15:57

the lighting is set at 'depressive' at all times. i dare not enter for fear of gathering enough static and spontaneously combusting.

NoahFence · 10/05/2011 15:58

through it's air con it pipes desperation.

BelovedCunt · 10/05/2011 15:59

ggirl · 10/05/2011 16:00

god yes
was traumatised last time i ventured in on
think it was for car seat so yrs ago

very common and smelly

NoahFence · 10/05/2011 16:01

they should give out prozac at the till

mosschops30 · 10/05/2011 16:02

YABU i can think of far worse shops than mothercare.
I dont like many clothes there but its good for some stuff and they price matched a buggy for me.
I prefer it to omewhere nasty like asda/primark/tesco/tk maxx

ggirl · 10/05/2011 16:02

mumsnet used to advertise in there didn't they
bet they regret that now
mn has never been the same since

BelovedCunt · 10/05/2011 16:03

asda is boutique compared to mothercare

slowshow · 10/05/2011 16:03

YANBU. They are grim. Crammed to the rafters with stock, and yet curiously lacking in choice. Having said that, I went to one of their megastores at a retail park a couple of weeks ago, and bizarrely that was really airy and pleasant.

ggirl · 10/05/2011 16:03

god no primark and tesco much better
don't go in asda
mothercare has stained carpets fgs

NoahFence · 10/05/2011 16:04

Yy but Tesco is what it is. ( lord help me when my MIL says that it does my nut in)

Mother care is a british brand. It should be a destination. Not a last resort.

steps off podium to rapturous applause
