to ask about quick fix diets? Thinking special K diet?

firstly i should say i don't usually agree with quick fix diets but i might just try one in this situation!

DD2 is 12mo, i fed her until 6mo and since stoppin feeding have slowly gained 1.5 stone! I'm getting married in 18 months and would like to lose between 2 and 3 stone for the wedding.

i had planned on trying to lose as much as possible between now and October then going for my wedding dress. The thing is, i've just won a wedding dress Grin but need to order it soon so i'm going in to pick it in 2 weeks but just want to feel a bit better. I had started a couple of weeks ago and although i've lost 4lbs i just want a wee boost before trying it on.

I don't get much time to exercise and DP is on constant nightshifts for next few weeks. So i've bought a hula hoop and hoping that might help. My main problem area is my stomach, its really getting to me and after two big babies in a short period of time i feel its beyond hope.

So basically, i'm looking for advice, thoughts. Anyone tried the special K diet?

Try pilates for helping whittle your stomach-maybe get a DVD (I got one for 99p) and do it in the evenings when Dc in bed? God luck-and week done for winning the dress!:)

Happymm · 17/04/2011 08:48

Or good luck!:o

RoobyMurray · 17/04/2011 08:48

Google pig 2 twig. Low carb, v easy and good results in the first couple of weeks.

Happymm · 17/04/2011 08:49

And well done,oh the shame of predictive typingBlush

Supermoo · 17/04/2011 08:51

Real quick fix is cabbage soup diet, you'll lose weight but smell vile!

I've been going to Slimming World for 6 months and lost three of the four stone I wanted to shed, so would recommend them highly.

Good luck!

squeakytoy · 17/04/2011 08:53

Diet alone will not shift the belly, only exercise will do that.

Get the 30 day shred dvd, it is brilliant, 20 mins of exercise a day, and a sensible low fat, low carb, high protein diet.

I have lost 12lb in 6 weeks now and am 2 dress sizes smaller.

thanks everyone, i should point out that the 4lbs was due to cutting out crap and doing my hula hoop most nights when kids are in bed. I started off doing 5mins but am up to 15mins now, its bloody hard!!

I was quite happy doing it this way with a healthy weight loss but when i found out about the dress and one of the conditions is it has to be ordered by May so going to pick one in two weeks and then go in at end of may to get measured.

I like the idea of dvds when kids are in bed, especially as DP is working so i won't feel like an idiot doing it in my living room.

We do go walking a lot but DD1 refuses to go in buggy, which i suppose is good as shes getting exercise but not great for me as we walk at a snails pace! :)

You could easily lose 3 stone in 18 months.

I lost 2 stone in five months, and I didn't exercise at all, I cut down my food intake and watched the calories.

The last stone is the hardest though.

You should aim for a weight loss of 2lb a week, that is the sensible way to do it.

IMissSleep · 17/04/2011 09:13

What FabbyChic said.

Watch what you eat. I cut out crap for 2 months (bread, cakes, chocolate - basically everything nice!!) and lost 1 stone. Most of it being water retention. I felt amazing, alert and my bad back got better.

I'm still watching what I eat, but allow myself treats :)

Rowan49 · 17/04/2011 09:15

I did the Cambridge diet when I left uni as I just ate loads and weighed 14 and a half stone when I left! (I'm only 5'3 as well.) I did it after going on holiday and someone took a picture and OMG mortification, I was starting teacher training and was worried about kids calling me fat so I wanted something quick and I couldn't cook so WW, SW etc were difficult.

I lost 5 stone in 4 months Grin People always say do you not put it back and I didn't - I kept it off. I have put on small amounts of course but I've never got even close to being that big again.

RitaMorgan · 17/04/2011 09:18

Special K diet is ridiculous! Sugary cereal is not a diet food Grin

Rowan49 · 17/04/2011 09:25

It does have a lot of minerals in it though and fibre and milk is calcium rich of course ... Cereal is a pretty good food to eat, even the sugary types have lots of goodness in them.

RueLaChesty · 17/04/2011 09:29

Thanks Rita, i had the same thoughts but my sister swears by it (although a size 10).

I lost nearly 2 stone a while back doing WW so i know i can do it long term, although can't afford WW this time round. Its just that i've been thrown in the deep end if you like, by having to try on dresses before i was comfortable.

I'll google all these diets later when kids asleep and see what they are like. Although i quickly googled pig to twig rooby as i thought you were windin me up!! Grin

No, don't do special K ...that is not food! It is an advertising ploy to get you to eat their overprocessed bollox twice a day. If you replace the calories in a bowl of special k with something made of real food, it might work, but something that is going to send your blood sugar shooting up, like Special k, will make you feel hungry quicker. If the special k diet works at all, it is just because it restricts calories, if you can possibly stick to it.
There are better ways to lose weight and NOT eat crap? Good luck.

BillBrysonsRucksack · 17/04/2011 09:30

I'd second what supermoo said about Slimming World. I lost 2 stone in 4 months on their plan, no problem.

Although I've never been on one, quick fix diets are imo crap because as soon as you start eating normally again you just put all the weight back on.

Also what peabody said about being able to take a dress in but not let it out is completely right!

squeakytoy · 17/04/2011 09:33

Cereal is just too much sugar.

You would be better off on the Slimfast plan, as the shakes give you more balanced nutrition.

Switch to everything wholemeal, cut out all white bread, sugars, biscuits, sweets... (and artificial sweeteners too, as they are just poison!).

Only eat carbs like bread in the morning, as they will give you the energy for the day, you dont need to eat a big evening meal.

Drink plenty of water.. that is vitally important, and eat breakfast, again vital, as that kickstarts your metabolism for the day. I have had to totally re-educate myself this last few weeks and it has worked.

If you dont eat enough, your body goes into starvation mode, and will hold onto the fat, also making you feel tired and lethargic. If you eat too much, you dont burn off the fat.

So, you have to eat, but eat healthy, and you have to exercise, every day, even if it is just walking briskly, (the Wii Fit is my saviour!).

Losing 2-3 stone in 18 months is easily do-able. :)

diabolo · 17/04/2011 09:51

I've lost a stone and half in 4 months by ...

having a small bowl of cereal for breakfast,
A banana and 2 boiled eggs for lunch,
A low fat, full of veg soup every evening (add my own veg like butter beans or petit pois or lentils)

If I get peckish it's either a banana, apple or slim a soup.

I'ts not the healthiest diet, so I've been taking vitamin / iron supplments.

And try and have a treat at least once a week so your metabolism doesn't get stuck.

squeakytoy · 17/04/2011 09:54

Are you a vegetarian Diablo?

diabolo · 17/04/2011 10:01

Not at all squeakytoy, my treat is often a steak, or some salmon - a proper dinner if you like.

But since I've mostly cut meat out, I feel loads better, more alert and lively I suppose.

I sometimes snack on nuts for protein, or instead of the eggs for lunch I'll have sardines on wholemeal toast or something like that.

squeakytoy · 17/04/2011 10:08

The meat is good for protein. That will help build the muscle and burn the fat.

It will help fill you up more too. I dont eat any potatoes now, which has been a killer, but I feel so much better for it.

I would say you arent getting enough calories with that list to be honest, that is well under what you need, and will slow down your metabolism.

Tinwe · 17/04/2011 10:08

Try the British Heart Foundation diet/3 day diet. It's nothing to do with the British Heart Foundation apparently but it works. Have used it off and on for years as I can't seen to stick to a boring long term diet. 3 days on, 4 days off. I lost 2 stone painlessly over about 2 1/2 months for my wedding and kept it off but then got pregnant! Grin My now MIL also did it for the wedding and lost lots.

Tinwe · 17/04/2011 10:10

By the way, I'm vegetarian and there is a veggy version of it

squeakytoy · 17/04/2011 10:12

Tinwe, that looks a dreadful diet :(

Nancy66 · 17/04/2011 10:21

the scarsdale diet
you can lose a stone in 2 weeks.
