to ask about quick fix diets? Thinking special K diet?

firstly i should say i don't usually agree with quick fix diets but i might just try one in this situation!

DD2 is 12mo, i fed her until 6mo and since stoppin feeding have slowly gained 1.5 stone! I'm getting married in 18 months and would like to lose between 2 and 3 stone for the wedding.

i had planned on trying to lose as much as possible between now and October then going for my wedding dress. The thing is, i've just won a wedding dress Grin but need to order it soon so i'm going in to pick it in 2 weeks but just want to feel a bit better. I had started a couple of weeks ago and although i've lost 4lbs i just want a wee boost before trying it on.

I don't get much time to exercise and DP is on constant nightshifts for next few weeks. So i've bought a hula hoop and hoping that might help. My main problem area is my stomach, its really getting to me and after two big babies in a short period of time i feel its beyond hope.

So basically, i'm looking for advice, thoughts. Anyone tried the special K diet?

Oh good I get to use Pagwatch's description of special K: shit in a box.

It is just a marketing ploy, not a diet plan!

I think low carbing is the quickest way to shift blubber. I'm using this method myself, though a fishy/veggie version.

Proper food, full fat, just less carbs particularly processed ones like pasta, bread.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 17/04/2011 10:56

Breakfast cereals are crap, as others have stated.

Healthy low-carbing is the way foward imo. Google Pig 2 Twig, as Rooby suggests.

bristolcities · 17/04/2011 10:58

I lost a stone and a half in two weeks by just eating fruit and veg, nothing else. Most was probably water but I did look fab.

Topspin · 17/04/2011 12:28

I agree that Special K is exactly the kind of food to avoid if you want to lose weight - it's highly processed, sugary carbs, which apart from being fattening will leave you hungry very soon after eating it.

Drinking loads of water along with cutting down carbs is the best way I've found - think chicken/fish/eggs/pulses and lots of salads/green veggies.

ValiumBandwitch · 17/04/2011 12:33

special k has quite a high glycaemic index, so if you are going to do a quick fix cereal diet, do porridge or all bran!

LucretiaInShadows · 17/04/2011 12:33

I did it with Crunchy Nut cornflakes ( I can't bear Special K) for a couple of weeks to get into an unforgiving dress for a family wedding. It worked for me.

superv1xen · 17/04/2011 12:39

don't try special k diet OP

it seems to be basically a starvation diet :(

try and cut your calories to about 1500 a day and eat lots of protein, as it keeps you full, thats what i am doing at the mo.

a typical day for me is:

breakfast-peanut butter on granary toast

snack mid morning-apple

lunch- scrambled egg on granary toast

mid afternoon snack-soup

evening meal-grilled chicken, rice and peas

i usually have a bit of chocolate or something in the evening as well. i have lost 3lbs in 3 weeks since doing this so its slow but steady. i am aiming for another 5lbs in time for my holiday in about 5 weeks.

superv1xen · 17/04/2011 12:39

oh yeah and look for low gi food as that keeps you feeling full

ValiumBandwitch · 17/04/2011 12:46

those nairns oat cakes are good too. if you're starving and would normally have two slices of toast, replace with 2 or 3 oatcakes and a glass of water.

MrsPW · 17/04/2011 12:48

Sorry, I haven't read all of the thread but my suggestion would be the Dukan diet. I lost 4 stone in 6 months on it and feel great! There is a website for some info but don't subscribe, it's silly money. You can buy the book from ebay or amazon for about 6 quid. Good luck! x

grovel · 17/04/2011 12:49

Try Jane Plan (Google).

squeakytoy · 17/04/2011 13:34

My diet is based around a mix of the Dukan Diet and the South Beach Diet and it is working, but the key is exercise, no diet works (permanently) unless you up your exercise levels every day.

RueLaChesty · 17/04/2011 15:41

thanks everyone for advice.

mrsPW i have actually purchased the two dukan diet books and the oat bran but haven't started it yet, it was my initial plan, and i reckon if i can get through the first two stages then i could manage it easily.

I like the idea of losing quite a lot in the attack phase but my DP is very dubious about it! Accordong to the dukan calculator i can be at my weight by august! I like the sound of that!!

OP posts:
squeakytoy · 17/04/2011 15:45

The dukan diet is very easy to follow, you just cut out more or less all carbs for the first week, and then gradually introduce a few back in once the attack phase is over. I adapted mine by allowing myself wholemeal bread with breakfast, even in the attack phase, and still lost 6lb the first week.

SpringFollows · 17/04/2011 16:12

Come over to the Big/slim/whatever board and join us on the 30 day low-carb no-alcohol thread. (started by me - [preen])

I reckn a stone gone in 30 days just like that. if i could stick to it myself.

idontlikemondays · 17/04/2011 16:14

Probably speaking out of turn what with all this proper sensible diet advice... but for a reall quick boost how about big pants?

I recently got a pair of the Trinny and Suze body shaper things from Debenhams and I reckon they dropped me a dress size (I am a 12ish normally but sort of soft and blubbery) and they definitely were a quick fix!!

Clearly might not work for all but worth a go maybe? Smoothed over a heck of a lot of lumps and bumps anyway...

Good luck with the slimmint down/wedding etc

Onetoomanycornettos · 17/04/2011 16:28

I also second Spanx if you need to lose a few inches off the waist and flatten the stomach. I can't get over how great they are for losing about a stone, looks-wise and smoothing that wobbly tummy out. I think you are right to lose the weight too, but for a short term two weeks solution, the Spanx that come up to your boobs and go over your legs are brilliant even if you do feel like a stuffed sausage, and I seriously can't imagine losing enough weight to get my stomach as flat as it is in Spanx ever again in my life!

Nancy66 · 17/04/2011 16:29

make sure you get the ones with an open crotch...otherwise you need to plan a pee about an hour in advance

JimmyChooChoo · 17/04/2011 17:17

Bristolcities-how on earth did you stick to that diet??I don't think I'd last a day!You must have some serious willpower girlSmile.Oh and did the weight stay off?

bristolcities · 17/04/2011 19:35

Well I snacked on more fruit. Ok in all honestly I had an ED so tried every diet going including the no food but loads of fags and coffee diet.

My fruit diet was by far the healthiest I did and I think led to my recovery because I could eat as much as I wanted and it was all healthy stuff. Accompanied by lots of water the weight stayed off I I now eat lots of fruit but normal stuff as well. But I think with any diet its really important to reintroduce foods slowly.

I found it really quite easy but then I didn't eat for 9 days straight, SOME THING I DON'T RECOMEND!!!

JimmyChooChoo · 17/04/2011 20:14

9 days straight?Wow I can't maanage 9 mins straightGrinbet you look gorgeous thoughSmile.

JimmyChooChoo · 17/04/2011 20:15

bristolcities · 17/04/2011 20:33

Looking back on it I probably did look quite good but I was to busy smoking and obsessing to notice Grin and I have now have no idea how I managed it.
