Piercings

My 14 year old DD has become obsessed with piercings and alternative body art. She has her ears pierced (once), but is nagging to be allowed her nose pierced. My DP and I thought she meant her nostril.....but no she means her septum! We have obviously refused to entertain this, but she claims that when she is 16 she will be of age to get piercings without parental consent. Is she right? Now she is talking about getting her clavicle pierced, and also 'snake bites' (her lower lip). I find her desire to mutilate herself like this really upsetting as she is such a pretty girl. I was born with a facial birthmark, and would have done anything NOT to be disfigured. I hope I don't come over all uptight and middle class over this, but I would love some ideas on how to deal with this issue before she tries to do anything silly.

Why did you let her get her ears pierced under the age of 16 if you think piercings are mutilation. Complete double standard. Yes ofc she can get the piercings done when she's 16, she's legally allowed to move out!
It's her face and she will be of age to make that decision for herself. You can explain the reasons against but It won't ruin her face, it's just a few holes.

Compromise.

Piercings that canbe removed without leaving an obvious scar - which the septum is. No to anything else.

Do it!! Im 14 now, and I have my lobes, helix, anti-helix and septum pierced! I had my septum done about a year ago and it was absolutely fine!! I suggest you get it done in the summer holidays, and after a months, it should be healed and she can change the jewlery (possibly to a banana bar, which is a small bar which is slightly curved that is not visible) or, she can flip the ring up into her nose. For school I flip the ring up into my nose. I am also obsessed with body mods as I would like more piercings and I also have a tattoo and would love to have many more! I wish to become a tattoo artist ( whom attends fine arts at a university)! Septum is a good place to start also, if she decides she doesn't want it, then she can take it out and there will not be a visible scar and it'll be fine.

Was yours done properly?! I'm 14 and I had no problems! I've had it for a year and I forget it's even there! It doesn't even feel like anything if I move it and I play with is all the time!!
