Ok, so whose job was it to close the bathroom window

This is a minor thing, I just wanted to hear the MN Jury.

I shower this morning first thing and make breakfast, then DH. I then go in briefly to brush teeth and leave for work. DH leaves 10 mins later. Whose job is it to make sure the bathroom window is closed?

I hope we're not burgled when we get home.

The last person to use the bathroom.

FabbyChic · 29/03/2011 11:03

The last one in there?

AmazingBouncingFerret · 29/03/2011 11:04

Who was last in the house?

Leopardino · 29/03/2011 11:04

Info to add, I don't know if DH went back in to the bathroom after I left, he could have done.

Last one to use the bathroom should shut the window.

Acanthus · 29/03/2011 11:05

Oh Gawd. It was yours, obviously. Like it was mine to pick up DH's plum stones from the floor where he left them last night, when I found them there this morning. Apparently. Gah!

Leopardino · 29/03/2011 11:05

DH was last to leave

Last out the house should check everything is locked up/switched off

AmazingBouncingFerret · 29/03/2011 11:06

I'd say then he should of checked that all windows were shut before he left the house. How do you kow when you were in the bathroom that he was not going to go in again?

In our house if you open a window you make sure it is shut later. I may not notice if our window is opened (partially hidden by blind)
Who opened it?

DeWe · 29/03/2011 11:07

I'd never trush dh to lock up since her left the back door unlocked the week we were away. First and last time I let him lock up. (No, we weren't burgled)
But then he always complains about how long it takes me to lock up... because he wouldn't do half of it.

onceamai · 29/03/2011 11:07

DH is responsible for closing windows and locking up generally because he's a man - shame he works in Europe Mon-Fri Grin - and now I get to do the bins as well!

Desperateforthinnerthighs · 29/03/2011 11:09

Well, I would say whoever left last........we have this issue but seeing as how DH leaves about 20 mins after me therefore giving the bathroom 20 mins air time....he would close the window!

rookiemater · 29/03/2011 11:09

In our house it is whoever opened it, however we have 2 bathrooms which makes split of responsibilities a bit easier.

Leopardino · 29/03/2011 11:12

I opened it, as I went in first, but I think the last to leave should check. It's not a big house, so it's one bathroom window and checking the gas stove is off.

Whoever opens it doesn't make sense, surely, if you leave at different times?

OP posts:
Leopardino · 29/03/2011 11:16

And I was only possibly the last one in there... I know I went in after his shower to brush my teeth

OP posts:
onepieceoflollipop · 29/03/2011 11:17

If I opened it, but was going out a long time before dh, I would communicate with him and let him know I had opened it and could he close it.

Your window situation seems to have turned into quite a drama op, sounds very stressful. Could you not have just mentioned to your dh that you had opened it and could he close it?

Leopardino · 29/03/2011 11:18

He would have known it was open, because he showered in the bathroom after me.

bonkers20 · 29/03/2011 11:19

Last one to leave the house should check doors, windows, gas etc.
This avoids any arguments about who was last in, who opened it etc.

It really doesn't matter who "should" do it, if you're leaving the house you need to check it's secure.

Anyway, where do you live and do you have anything worth nicking ;-)

Leopardino · 29/03/2011 11:20

It's a bit annoying because we're both at work, he texts me to ask whether I closed it because he hadn't. I texted to say I hadn't and he said "let's hope burglars don't work tuesdays"

OP posts:
NimpyWindowmash · 29/03/2011 11:21

I think whoever opened it. But my DH is a bit OCDish, so I always assume he's checked anyway.

Leopardino, if you're not prepared to be wrong, don't ask AIBU Grin
