AIBU?

Ok, so whose job was it to close the bathroom window

This is a minor thing, I just wanted to hear the MN Jury.

I shower this morning first thing and make breakfast, then DH. I then go in briefly to brush teeth and leave for work. DH leaves 10 mins later. Whose job is it to make sure the bathroom window is closed?

I hope we're not burgled when we get home.

We've all logically ruled out whoever opened it, makes no sense at all. It hinges on whether it's last to leave the house, or last to use it. I would say last to use it doesn't make sense, because if you leave before, you don't know you're the last to use it....

... so the only possible logical solution is last to leave, surely?

We haven't "all" ruled out whoever opened it. I haven't. :)

I would just communicate with dh before we left the house, not send texts to each other when it is too late anyway.

He is bu (imo) for texting you, it's too late unless realistically you can do something about it that he can't!

I'll concede that if we had separate bathrooms, it might make sense to be whoever opened it, but if it's commonly used, then it seems daft as a rule

sorry - it's a 'whoever opened it' vote from me too!

Crikey, I can't believe there are so many illogical women out there, what's wrong with you all, no wonder this country's in such a mess Grin - can't you see "whoever opened it" makes absolutely no sense if two people use the same resource, and one leaves earlier than the other?

Are you at work Leopardino? I would be in massive trouble if I spent loads of work time discussing my bathroom habits on a parenting forum. Wink

Hope you don't work in the public sector "no wonder this country's in such a mess" Grin

Whoever opened it, unless they told the other to close it.
My DH doesn't notice whether opened or closed.

Euphemia, DH did notice the window was open, he texted to say he didn't close it.

Others are right though, I should be working

Seems as I'm the only one to open the bathrrom window I'm th eonly one to close it!
DD had a shower the other day and complained it was a bit cold in there. I asked why didn't she just close the window, you'd have thought I'd grown 2 heads by the look I got.
Lucklily our new windows came with an optional catch that means it can only open so far.

Last person to leave the house should check all windows and doors. Should be part of your Exit Routine :o

Aworryingtrend · 29/03/2011 11:59

The one who opened it should close it OR say to the one leaving later "I opned the bathroom window, make sure you close it before you leave"

Surely you are both adults, and are both responsible for the security of the house.

You are equally responsible.

Leopardino · 29/03/2011 12:05

By the way, it's a thing in our house to leave the bathroom window open to get steam from the shower out. I agree ultimately it's a shared responsibility, but difficult to employ that responsibility when you leave earlier.

I suppose this will give us chance to work out our morning exit strategy

You should have closed it when you went in, after his shower, to clean your teeth.

Report
Leopardino · 29/03/2011 12:24

But at that point, it was still steamy

So you say to DH "can you shut the window before you leave."
Then it can be his fault!

Report
squeakytoy · 29/03/2011 12:32

Whoever opened it should close it. Why open it in a morning anyway?

Report
Leopardino · 29/03/2011 12:40

To let the steam out!

Haven't you got a small bit you can leave open?

If you have window locks, you MUST leave the keys where they can be found in a fire, not in the downstairs fruitbowl.

Report
fluffygal · 29/03/2011 13:18

I always leave the bathroom window open.

Report
mayorquimby · 29/03/2011 13:23

Who opened it? that's who should make sure it's closed. Can't imagine having to go around the house to make sure nobody had left a window open every time I was heading out.
