I'm still smirking over the golden globes debacle. I don't think we've had a thread on this yet...and this should probably be on another part of the site but cba to look for it Grin

Yes - they have an ongoing skit they perform at award shows - with Gervais taking the piss out of him

Remotew · 18/01/2011 14:58

Anyone who can mistake his stand up as being David Brent, really didn't 'get' David Brent and the Office. IMHO

kepler10b · 18/01/2011 15:35

brilliant. ricky gervais is great. i don't care if he is arrogant. he makes me laugh. he also wrote a very good article about atheism recently. i respect the fact he is not brown nosing and trying to weedle his way into hollywood.

Shewhoshallnotbenamed · 18/01/2011 15:57

Loved the Office, hated his stand-up and got sick of seeing him as Johnathon Ross's go-to-guest.

I have long thought he was an utter arse.

Plus he resembles my ex.

All things considered - I don't like him.

That clip however, very funny, loved the fact he didn't care. Loved that all the people in the audience who are used to being constantly lauded were caught off-guard - well done Ricky!

I don't reckon a US compare would go down well at any of the UK award shows - have they had any, eg at the comedy awards? It's all very well 'getting' the differences in comedy style, but I think a lot about RG's performance last night was the ease in which it was delivered.

MrsBananaGrabber · 18/01/2011 15:59

Loved it when he introduced Bruce Willis as Ashton Kutchers dad.

NorbertDentressangle · 18/01/2011 16:00

I think he disappeared up his own arse some time ago.

Shame as he used to be quite funny.

lucky1979 · 18/01/2011 16:04

I don't believe anyone at the Golden Globes production thought that he went too far, didn't know what they were getting or hadn't checked all the jokes in advance. It's not off the cuff, it's scripted down to the last insult.

And guess what? People are still talking about the Golden Globes. Articles all over the world are still being written about them, rather than saying here are the winners, here are the dresses now lets move on. People are watching clips on youtube, talking about the show and it's brilliant for them, as much global buzz as the Oscars can get.

Bet they book him for next year.

Shewhoshallnotbenamed · 18/01/2011 16:09

lucky fair point! They woz in on it! Shock

Niecie · 18/01/2011 16:25

Horrible little man - couldn't watch the clip down the thread. He wasn't funny just cringeworthy and I gave up after a minute. Life is too short.

Actually I am totally with Mamadiva on this one.

BootyMum · 18/01/2011 16:50

Absolutely loved it!!! British humour at it's absolute best imo.

I'm with you lucky.....

WE're all talking about the GGs and RG...win/win.

thereistheball · 19/01/2011 17:37

Ha ha - The Economist are commenting on it too.

DeeCeeDee · 20/01/2011 04:45

Ricky Gervais is so smug looking I can hardly bear to watch him. I guess he's ok for these times tho, when making crass remarks and taking the piss out of people makes a person funny as hell..who needs jokes nowadays.

mayorquimby · 20/01/2011 09:52

Gervais does brilliant jokes too, he's the complete package.
