...that we don't do hugs. Plenty are given, just described as un-MNetty. Why? We have the Bear, we have the Biscuit. Why not the [hug]?

I unashamably (is that a word?) hand out hugs whenever the situation arises Smile

But then I've never been on NetMums and seen for myself the devestation they can wreck.

Tiredmumno1 · 27/11/2010 23:41

is that better Grin

UnrequitedSkink · 27/11/2010 23:41

Please, HOW do you get that pombear?!

SantasNutellaFairy · 27/11/2010 23:42

because hugs are offered freely and indiscriminately and insincerely on other forums.

When they are offered here, it's generally because there are no words to console/advise, although most will have tried to use those first.

AgentZigzag · 27/11/2010 23:43

Have you no manners nevergoogle? Grin

Never. headbutt. the. OP. and. leave.

At least stay to see the effects of it.

bees474 · 27/11/2010 23:43

What is that teddy thing?

marriednotdead · 27/11/2010 23:44

[bear] without the *s.

SNF has got it in a nutshell.

YANBU. I get right fecked off seeing the 'Have an un-mumsnetty hug' thing (and it happens a lot). MNetters are by and large a big-hearted and compassionate lot (you are you buggers, admit it). What is the shame in offering a hug? We all need one sometimes, virtual or not

PrincessBoo · 27/11/2010 23:49

'Hugs' are fine.

However, 'Hugzzzz hun/hon' deserves an instant electric shock from the keyboard.

SantasNutellaFairy · 27/11/2010 23:49

urgh- get those things away from me!Grin

BlueyDragon · 27/11/2010 23:50

Goodness me, I'm not suggesting entirely indiscriminate hugging. I have sufficient faith in your average MNetter to believe that there won't be Public Displays of Affection all over the threads. In fact I'd like to prove it by offering nevergoogle outside rather than any sort of conciliatory/understanding hug.

If it's a matter of inter-nicene thread pride, then of course we should continue to pretend we don't offer hugs unless we are behaving in a fashion other than the norm. I just wondered if perhaps we couldn't just offer a hug when we felt like it and without having to explain them. I'm not the huggy type so don't have a fear of spraying them around without thinking.

Unrequited, try [ bear ] without the spaces.

LaWeaselMys · 27/11/2010 23:50

I don't think I have ever offered a hug.

[cold-hearted bitch alert]

[actually usually just don't feel like I've got anything to add at that point.]

UnrequitedSkink · 27/11/2010 23:51

UnrequitedSkink · 27/11/2010 23:51

Yippeeee! Big hugs to all who helped Grin

catinthehat2 · 27/11/2010 23:51

I don't even do hugs in real life if I can avoid it.

FGS

BlueyDragon · 27/11/2010 23:51

PrincessBoo, I am with you on that.

OP posts:
GrimmaTheNome · 27/11/2010 23:53

but we don't want [heart], do we?

BlueyDragon · 27/11/2010 23:53

So don't do it here catinthehat2. I'm not suggesting you have to, just that you should be able to if you want to.

OP posts:
BlueyDragon · 27/11/2010 23:54

Ugh, Grimma, no.

BlueyDragon · 27/11/2010 23:54

Bear anyone?

mugggletoeandwine · 27/11/2010 23:57

There is no shame in offering a hug.
The difference between here and other, lesser forums is that they are given here when necessary and needed.
On other sites that's all they do.

I feel sick, I need to take DD to Nursery-Aww hun, hugs.
I'm not coping well with my teen, what do you do when your teen backchats constantly-Aww hun, hugs.
I have a 9yr old who is hard work, she seems to hate me-Aww hun, hugs.
I have cancer-Aww hun, hugs.
etc, etc,etc.
You get it I'm sure.
It means nothing, it is nothing, unless backed up with support and that does come from here I find.
