DS has had runny nose (clear not green) for a few days, today very red eyes along bottom lid and black eyes under and eyelids.

This is his usual hayfever symptoms - is it too early??

I have had hayfever for about a month already as well. I've been taking clarityn once a day and beconase spray daily since I realised it was hayfever and not a cold! I find the beconase really helps with the congestion, but not sure how much the clarityn (loratadine) actually does. I was taking cetirizine but that didn't seem to make much difference either.
I tend to be fine in the morning, but if I go outside in the afternoon by the evening I have painful sinuses, dark circles and it also sets off my asthma. What I am wondering is whether it is ok to take piriton if I have a reaction like this, when I am taking the loratadine daily as well? I know that piriton works for me as I took it once last year when really bad and I felt normal almost immediately, whereas the others don't have such an obvious effect.

Hayfever is such a nightmare for me, it makes me so drowsy that I find myself almost falling asleep in the middle of the day the hayfever clinic is great a good source of info, helped me to find out exactly which pollen sets me off at what time of year it is worse so I can prepare! www.hayfeverclinic.co.uk/pages/home.aspx
