Hi there ! I hope this is the right place to post, I drink too much wine ! I want to drink only in the week and then have a glass or two over the weekend (if I fancy it). I have a baby and a toddler so I really need the energy . Just looking for some support and if anyone wants to join me?
We can support eachother, my problem is , I look forward to it and that thought helps get me through the day for once I finally get them to bed. I love them so much and want to be around for a long long time, drinking everyday just isn't acceptable. I havnt admitted this before so please be kind.
Who wants to join?

We were drinking more during lockdown, our kids are adults now though, we now have mon, tues, weds, thurs as alcohol free days and have a drink on Friday, Sat and sometimes Sunday evenings. Much better balance and saving money to spend on our energy bills 😂

PamelaDoov · 06/02/2022 17:18

@MisiSam

Loving the fact we can all be honest here with no judgement too, I think this will really help !
Me too!

This is my last Sunday drinking now, I’m having a few tonight as there’s half a bottle of wine left and some beers. Diet and exercise start tomorrow too!

sunshineandshowers40 · 06/02/2022 18:00

Can I join please?

I have this conversation with myself every week! My alcohol consumption went up during the first lockdown and hasn't gone down, I'm drinking most nights. Although I have cut down over the last couple of weeks. I'm going to aim to not drink Monday to Thursday.

MisiSam · 06/02/2022 18:05

I was going to make roast chicken today but we had chicken enchiladas yesterday so now I'm making Bolognese and drinking my last little bit of red for the week. Sob! Grin

My drinking for the weekend is done. 1 small glass of red and a bottle of cider. I'm now in bed with a cup of decaf tea. Friday feels a long way away. But that probably reinforces to me why I really need to cut back on my drinking.

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 06/02/2022 21:10

I really need to do this. I only ever have one glass of wine, but it became one glass every day over lockdown. I need to break the habit and go back to having alcohol-free days.

SergeiL · 06/02/2022 21:14

We can do this. I started last week. I was in bed early each night and had good quality sleep. Feel much less bloated and have far more energy. We have shared a bottle of wine between us each weekend night but I am excited to be back on the wagon tomorrow. This is not something I ever thought I would say!

Blondefancy · 06/02/2022 21:36

I’d like the join please! Grin I can go about 2 evenings without wine but then on the 3rd night I just feel like half a bottle of red as a treat because I’ve done so good not drinking the other nights Hmm I’d love to stick to weekends!! Starting tomorrow!

SummerSazz · 06/02/2022 21:44

I've been doing this since 10 jan and trying not to drink if I'm not out or have friends over. What I have found really helpful is 0% tanqueray with a tiny smidge of grapefruit squash and tonic with ice in a stemmed glass. Tastes exactly like my favourite Chase grapefruit gin.

If I feel like drinking after a shit day this does the trick nicely (would never have believed it!)

Leobynature · 06/02/2022 21:45

I would like to join, however I probably need more professional help. I drink way to much, some nights just a very small shot glass, other nights a bottle of wine. I really look forward to it when the kids are in bed, but it is no longer a treat or a habit, it’s a big problem. I am struggling to go without alcohol in the evenings.

jazzandh · 06/02/2022 21:54

I would like to join too! I can drink a bottle of wine a night. It's a habit. I am menopausal and makes sleep issues so much worse.......I am piling on the pounds after Christmas......

I need to get a grip and stop! Too many excuses why to crack open the next bottle (having a 17 yo / 11 yo and a DH working from home doesn't help!!!)

Nothingsfine · 06/02/2022 22:44

If you stop drinking altogether you'll notice how much better you feel and you won't be constantly playing catch up after some wine at the weekend. Honestly, it's totally liberating

alwaysaworrier · 06/02/2022 22:59

I'm in too. Started in the first lockdown with a large gin or wine every night and now I need two or more most nights. Weight is piling on and I would really like to keep drinking to weekends.
So no wine tomorrow.

Blondefancy · 07/02/2022 07:19

I’m so happy we’ve got this support group going! I’ll be checking in this evening, I didn’t actually drink anything yesterday (Sunday) which I’m happy about Smile

MisiSam · 07/02/2022 08:34

I have been drinking wine most nights since I was on my early 20s and I'm going to be 35 next month. The amount has slowly crept up over the years , I've been pregnant twice in the last three years and I have no problem not drinking then thank goodness. I'm feeling quite positive today, I'm a bit like "oh how boring will this evening be" but as a pp said that just reinforces why I need to do this!

Morning all ! I'm in !
I've been doing really well cutting back and have felt great. Yesterday I ended up drinking a lot. Sundays are bad days for me - I find them so boring. If I could just drink on a Saturday, that would be great. Yet Saturday just gone I didn't want to.
Anyway, a fresh start today. My aim is not to drink til the 20th when I'm away for a weekend.
Thanks for the thread @MisiSam

theremustonlybeone · 07/02/2022 10:48

My drinking escalated when my husband got sick and we have been stuck in the house for two years now. WFH, no holidays and I was going nuts. I at one stage was getting anxious that I only had one bottle in the house. I am very insightful about my drinking. So not aiming for abstinence, but not drinking in the week. Week one was a success!

Lemonweightloss · 07/02/2022 12:00

@theremustonlybeone, well done on week 1 👏. It is doable. Once I'm in the swing of it, I feel great and actually stop thinking about it. It's hard sometimes getting off the treadmill.

Blondefancy · 07/02/2022 13:04

Yes very well done @theremustonlybeone , if I get through the first week I know I’ll be extremely proud of myself! I’m also day 1 of quitting smoking (for the millionth time!) I don’t smoke for the 2 years being pregnant & a year after, but then once I finish breastfeeding I start back up again Blush 2 kids later! I know this isn’t about smoking but I’m really determined to crack it, which makes not reaching for that glass of wine that little bit harder! Hmm

MisiSam · 07/02/2022 13:48

@Blondefancy well done! When I used to smoke I found I smoked more when I drank anyway! They seemed to go hand in hand

I feel very strong today after last week’s 4 day abstinence. I had to have a mammogram today - this is the kind of excuse I would usually use to hit the bottle to reward myself for getting it done but I know I am not going to tonight and I feel good about that. Stay strong everyone.

liveforsummer · 07/02/2022 17:31

One got some lovely fever tree rhubarb tonic water which I am enjoying but definitely thinking about wine even more than in normally would be at this time as I know I can't have it 😆. Day 1. I've been drinking most days for a pretty long time too and like you it's escalated. Has anyone had some unpleasant side effects. Not worried about dangerous withdrawal on the amounts but do wonder if I've been living in a sort of constant hangover for the last 2 -3 years and how it will feel when I break out of it.

SergeiL · 07/02/2022 20:07

I have been a regular drinker for quite a long time and I haven’t had any major side effects from cutting right back. Only really positives.

I got this rhubarb and ginger ‘gin’ from Amazon that I am enjoying a glass of in the evening.
Pearsons Rhubarb & Ginger Non Alcoholic Gin - 70cl www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09FTJZ3QN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_6EVWZ55578PHJDMTAHZ3?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

How is everyone doing tonight?

Blondefancy · 07/02/2022 20:15

I really like getting those sparkling fruit flavoured waters from Morrison’s (the peach is really good) which are cheap as anything! So tonight I haven’t gone for any wine Grin haven’t smoked either! DP was in a grumpy mood after work and the kids were hard to put to bed…but I still stuck to my guns! How is everyone else getting on?

PamelaDoov · 07/02/2022 20:31

I was peeling potatoes for dinner and thought ‘god I’d love a drink right now’ drifted sneakily through my mind. But I haven’t had anything. Plus I did a workout today and had salad for lunch so I was feeling pretty motivated to carry on doing well!
