Anyone giving up alcohol for Lent?

I tried dry January, I definitely cut back a lot but wasn't completely dry. Then it seems to have creeped up a bit over the past couple of weeks. I feel like I need to show myself I can actually do this!

I'm doing couch to 5k and should hopefully complete it around Easter time, so think I'll see if I could give up alcohol for that period as well. And hopefully see benefits from both.

I'm not entirely sure I can do it, but I'm going to give it a go. Anyone with me?

I have just said this to DH, I want to lose a stone and know it will be a lot easier without alcohol.

JerichoGirl · 16/02/2021 18:46

I'd like to... I think I'm done with alcohol.

Amdone123 · 16/02/2021 19:23

I'm having a go. I did Dry January for 24 days, felt great, then got sucked back in. I began the Annie Grace 30 day alcohol experiment on Monday. Am hoping to do the 30 days, then the last 2 weeks on my own. I weighed myself at the weekend and was down 5lbs. This was lost over those 3 weeks of Dry January. Am trying to remember how good I felt when I dropped those pounds. One day at a time for me. It's not the best time for big changes, but on the other hand, I know from experience how much better I feel, more positive when I'm not drinking/ hungover. So, maybe it is a good time !

mommybear1 · 16/02/2021 19:34

Yes I am - I have also like a pp started the Annie Grace experiment which I'm actually really enjoying. It's worth a read Grin OP.

132orbust · 16/02/2021 19:37

Yes I am. Did Dry Jan and had only 3 nights I had a drink in Feb so want to keep going. It is a sacrifice but that is rather the point given it's Lent so count me in.

supercee · 16/02/2021 19:41

I'm going to give it a bash. Managed 3 weeks of dry jan and fell off the wagon due to my birthday and couldn't get back on. Weighed myself the other day and I'm the heaviest I've ever been. After a weekend of wine drinking I really need to get a grip (again). I find it impossible to lose weight whilst drinking. I really reeeallly struggle with moderation. Who are these people who can have one glass of wine and stop?!

Using Easter and hopefully eventual easing of lockdown as a goal as I'm noticeably fatter and I'm embarrassed by that.

AliceMadHatter · 16/02/2021 19:45

What do I need to do to start the 30 day experiment? Is it a book?

CautiousBlonde · 16/02/2021 19:52

I’m in!!!

AliceMadHatter · 16/02/2021 19:56

I've just ordered the book. It's coming tomorrow so count me in for Lent too.

Amdone123 · 16/02/2021 20:32

@AliceMadHatter, Google Annie Grace 30 day alcohol experiment and log in. You get daily e mails, video clips etc

Chicchicchicchiclana · 16/02/2021 20:34

When does Lent start? Is it tomorrow. I usually give up for Lent but it seems to have crept up on me this year!

Thank you. I will do.

Yes.

I've never done it but I'm feeling so unhealthy with both food and alcohol that I'm going to try. I'm over my healthy BMI and drink far too much wine.

CautiousBlonde · 17/02/2021 09:24

Day 1 Flowers

CautiousBlonde · 17/02/2021 09:28

I’m actually going up fags too and trying to fast with one meal a day (in the evening). Can only drink clear fluids so no tea or coffee - I’m going to give this my best shot!!!

AliceMadHatter · 17/02/2021 09:39

Good luck @CautiousBlonde.

I'm definitely in. I've got all the Pinch of Nom books so going to fill my time cooking healthy meals too.

OhioOhioOhio · 17/02/2021 09:49

I did dry January and am still on the wagon. I'm not showing off, Im fat and not quite ready to tackle the unhealthy eating but the zero alcohol has definitely improved things.

Amdone123 · 17/02/2021 10:54

Well done @OhioOhioOhio, that's really good. Zero alcohol helps me lose weight so much. It's not just the empty liquid calories, but the crap I eat the next day x
Also, best to tackle one thing at a time, I think. If I dont drink, my eating is ok, as I eat healthily anyway, and if I do have chocolate ( missing the wine sugar), the calories are nothing compared to the liquid ones !

wintertime6 · 17/02/2021 14:03

Great to have some others on board and hopefully we can motivate each other to keep going to Easter!

I feel relieved that it's Day 1, like I've made the decision not to drink until at least Easter and so there will be no going back and forth in my head about whether or not to pour that glass of wine, because the decision's already been made if you know what I mean. Not sure if I'll still be feeling like that in a few days time though!

Any tips for staying motivated? I'm enjoying some quit lit on audible which is definitely helping my mindset.

Yep, I reckon I'm in.

AliceMadHatter · 17/02/2021 15:41

It's not till about 7pm till I want a glass so my plan is to have a healthy dessert as a treat. I don't eat till lunch so I'm planning to do 16/8 fasting. I usually reach for the crisps after a glass or two.

superram · 17/02/2021 15:49

I’m in, but with a planned ‘relent’ for an online wine tasting we’re doing with friends.

LadyMacnet · 17/02/2021 15:50

Yes, I’ve been on the wagon since I completed dry Jan. I think I’m done with booze but I need smallish goals. After / concurrent with Lent I am going to do the Try Dry app Sober Spring which runs from 20th March - 20th June.

wintertime6 · 17/02/2021 21:55

Day 1 done everyone! I'm going to get an early night and hopefully go for a run tomorrow morning before work.

Buntyforgirls · 17/02/2021 22:03

Day 1 for me too-good luck everyone!
