Anyone giving up alcohol for Lent?

I tried dry January, I definitely cut back a lot but wasn't completely dry. Then it seems to have creeped up a bit over the past couple of weeks. I feel like I need to show myself I can actually do this!

I'm doing couch to 5k and should hopefully complete it around Easter time, so think I'll see if I could give up alcohol for that period as well. And hopefully see benefits from both.

I'm not entirely sure I can do it, but I'm going to give it a go. Anyone with me?

Well done to all who have had a drink BUT are back to trying again.
Anyone else find it harder when the sun is shining?!

Zampa · 28/02/2021 22:31

I'm really cheesed off that I've not yet lost half a stone!

Buntyforgirls · 01/03/2021 08:21

Thank you @Zampa - sounds delicious- what else do you put in.?
I mixed ginger with cream Soda and mango , and it was delicious. All that sugar, obviously!!

Zampa · 01/03/2021 17:55

Just realised that this coming weekend I've got at Simon Rogan at home meal kit arriving. Ordered it about 6 weeks ago for DH's birthday and added the wine flight. There's no way I'm missing out so going to have to break my promise for an evening.

Avocadorable · 02/03/2021 03:56

Still AF here, days are more productive and homeschooling heaps easier and calmer with a clear head, might keep this up past lent 😉

Sometimesonly · 02/03/2021 09:13

I'm having a wobble today. Homeschooling is getting to me and it's only day two here!! Plus I haven't lost any weight, don't feel calmer or more glowy or anything! What's the point? Someone remind me! Grin

whatisforteamum · 02/03/2021 09:53

Sometimesonly home schooling sounds so hard so good for you for doing this.😁
I think the fact we are all doing it is great.A chance to reset and become a bit healthier.
I never drank to the point of hangover so no change there it was more a way to relax on my eves off as I worked until 1030 the rest of the week.A habit really.I do miss wine and was proud I didn't open prosecco for my anniversary Monday.Keep going everyone. It will be worth it.😀

Please Talk Me Down Shock Day 17 Wobble

I have tomorrow & Fri booked as hols ... not that there is anywhere to go/anything to do.

Ridiculously I've got my "holiday" head on. All I can think about is getting home and having a lovely chilled glass of chablis ...

Luckily there is no booze in the house!

Buntyforgirls · 03/03/2021 19:20

Is there another treat you can celebrate with?
Imagine how satisfying to complete day 17 and for tomorrow to be day18 not day1...

HCHQ · 03/03/2021 19:52

Thanks Bunty ... the craving has passed & you're right, feeling rather smug - satisfied Grin

Hope everyone else if keeping strong !!

Buntyforgirls · 03/03/2021 22:05

Well done- you are still 1 day ahead of me , rather than 16 behind if you had drank the wine! Hee!
I wobbled for a second tonight too, but did not drink and so beat my last continuous stretch which was 15 days.
Aren't we doing well!

wintertime6 · 03/03/2021 22:14

Everyone is doing so well! I think it definitely helps to focus on how you'd feel the next morning if you feel like reaching for the wine, that definitely helps me to stay away from it. I don't want to go back to feeling groggy and wasting entire days, not when I'm feeling so good without it.

Avocadorable · 03/03/2021 23:42

17 must be the magic wobbly day all good here too still af 😉 glad today is down. Well done all 👍

whatisforteamum · 04/03/2021 11:16

I almost caved last night but didn't.Been feeling weirdly stressed this week a combination of applying for new jobs while waiting to see when we go back(hospitality),and boredom.
I've done really well not to spend money,go to work or have a glass of processco since around Jan.
Well done everyone.I find a small piece of choc or a lindt ball gives me a sweet treat.

StrawberryFizz26 · 04/03/2021 18:26

I'm wobbling tonight all, work is busy, I've got my period and I'm really craving a prosecco. But I know I'm feel crap tomorrow and want to eat shit.

I think because I had wine on Sat, I'm thinking to myself, oooh, I could just drink one night a week and if I do t tonight, I'll still have the whole weekend to be productive!

Please talk me down.

HCHQ · 04/03/2021 18:51

Come on Stawbs ... you've got this... float past those cravings and remember that you will feel virtuous in the morning - and rightly so!!

What's for dinner? What you watching? Reading?

wintertime6 · 04/03/2021 20:38

How are you doing @StrawberryFizz26? I find that if I can hang on until around 7:30pm or 8pm then I often don't really want that glass of wine any more.

OP posts:
StrawberryFizz26 · 04/03/2021 23:50

I drank!!!!! It's okay, back on it tomorrow.

Buntyforgirls · 05/03/2021 16:39

Good luck for another weekend, everyone!
And welcome back strawberry, well done for getting back to it .

wintertime6 · 05/03/2021 21:33

Good luck everyone for another weekend! My DH made a stupid comment earlier about my drinking, it was completely true so I can't really fault him for saying it, about how I pass out on the sofa after drinking a few too many wines....but it just pissed me off so much and made me wonder what's the point? I've been feeling so much more positive the past few weeks since I've ditched the booze and started running a few times a week, but his comment has really got me down tonight. And I don't even really know why because I know he's right (well hopefully not any more that I've stopped drinking). Anyway, just feeling a bit rubbish tonight, think I'll get an early night and hopefully feel a bit better in the morning and go out for a run.

OP posts:
Zampa · 05/03/2021 22:18

Everyone's fallen asleep on the sofa after a glass of wine at one time or another @wintertime6. Don't even worry about it and shrug after any remarks, if you can. You're being the change you want to see in your life, if that's not too trite!

On an alcohol free note, Brewdog Punk AF IPA is top notch. Doesn't taste like an alcohol free beer at all.

Buntyforgirls · 06/03/2021 07:38

Interestingly I still “pass out” on the couch on a Friday night even when I’m AF.
I used to share an after work bottle of wine- or 2!- with friends then go home, eat and fall asleep. Felt so guilty.
But... I actually still come home on a Friday and fall asleep- so it wasn,t ALL wine fuelled.
I too have lost NO weight at all, despite AF and sugar free for Lent. How????
I wonder if it is the replacement cordials...

whatisforteamum · 06/03/2021 14:04

Good luck everyone we are doing well.Ive saved 43 units so far this year.i used to drink around 6 per week.

wintertime6 · 07/03/2021 07:00

Got up early yesterday morning and went for a run and that definitely made me feel a bit better. DH rarely made an issue about my drinking when it was pretty bad (I'm not sure why but it was something I was always grateful for - I felt bad enough in myself that I didn't need anyone else to make me feel worse). So I was just annoyed that now that I'm not drinking and actually feeling good about myself for the first time in a long while, that he would comment and bring me down.

Anyway, it's all forgotten about now. Onwards and upwards, Day 19 today, nearly at 3 weeks! In the old days I would have sunk a bottle of wine if I was annoyed, now I get an early night and go out for an early morning run! I don't think I even recognise myself anymore Smile

As mentioned upthread, I had a day off yesterday for a special meal. The food and wine were amazing and we made French 75s.

Unfortunately, it looks like I got food poisoning or another tummy bug and was up from 0230 being sick. Wish I'd never bothered! (It definitely wasn't the booze, btw before anyone says!).
