New thread for those wanting to reduce alcohol. Always supportive and friendly. No judgements, just support to get to where we feel comfortable with our relationship with alcohol. All welcome.

Am a bit rubbish with clicky links but there are previous threads.

Oooo NC4Now - is it a first date or have you met before? Hope it goes well Smile

NC4Now · 27/10/2018 12:37

It’s a first date! It all looks very good on paper so this is the ‘lets see if there’s a spark’ date...

I seem to have got myself into a bit of a tangle chatting to another bloke, who is nice and very keen but I’m not sure about.

Dating these days is so confusing! I long to go back to the days of a snog in a nightclub 😂

Haggisfish · 27/10/2018 12:39

Drinking strategy I used was a single spirit in a half pint mixer.

NC4Now · 27/10/2018 13:36

I was thinking along those lines Haggis. Gin and tonic in a large glass should be ok, I think.

Notjustafarmerswife · 27/10/2018 19:42

Hi team! May I join you? Just off out for dinner, so def won’t be dry tonight!

I wake up most nights, and most mornings feeling v annoyed with myself for not having had self control... I then vow not to drink that night, but come 6pm with screaming kids, I falter.... and hit the wine!

Flossie44 · 27/10/2018 19:45

Not just - omg that’s EXACTLY me!!!!!! Always always say when I wake up that I’ll be dry....yet come the evening, sod it!!

thecheesehasaphone · 27/10/2018 21:17

Me too! All day it seems so easy, I just won’t drink, I don’t even want to drink tonight. But then it’s like a switch goes in my head in the evening and I go into full on addict mode

Flossie44 · 27/10/2018 21:34

We went out for dinner with the children tonight and I was soooo happy to have soft drink and drive home, leaving dh to have a drink. I keep telling myself that I can’t be an alcoholic as it didn’t both me that he was drinking and I wasn’t!! For me, having wine is about relaxing in my pyjamas at home. I am fine not drinking if we go out

Dionysa · 27/10/2018 22:13

Flossie, you are ahead of me. An AF night. Go you!!!

Very good to hear you went out with the DC. I have been thinking about your DC2, so it is all the more lovely to read this. My DC1 is off again tomorrow. I would say "thank goodness", but that might make me sound like an uncaring mother. Grin

I could have written the last few posts myself (and welcome, Notjust - I think you are definitely one of us!). Every day, I have good resolutions - then 6 PM comes around, and I just cave in. Because it's been a good day (so I can be happy). Because it's been a horrible day (so I need consolation). Because they DC are here, and they drive me mad. Because they aren't here, so I can drink without worrying about its effect on them (i.e. tonight. Ugh).

NC, I am wondering how your date is going?! I think a date would end embarrassingly for me, but I think you will have done better. Part of it, for me, is who we are involved with. My non-live-in DP is a wine merchant (you couldn't make it up), and is also spectacularly exciting/difficult/elusive - whereas I am very boring and like to know exactly where I am. This combination is at the root of some of my problems.

Flossie44 · 27/10/2018 22:25

Dion - bloody hell..no way is it an AF night!!!!! Hahahahaha..I came home, stuck my pj’s on and cracked open a chilled bottle of white!! Grin

Dionysa · 27/10/2018 22:41

Flossie hahahahahaha!!!! I thought you mean tonight was AF!!! Mine certainly is not. FML. I have not saved any for Swampy tonight...

Flossie44 · 27/10/2018 23:06

Pahahaha swampy can sod off tonight here too!!

Dionysa · 27/10/2018 23:25

Hahahaha. Swampy is most definitely male. Grin Grin Gin

Flossie44 · 27/10/2018 23:38

Pmsl. Goes without saying!!

Swampyisthemanforme · 27/10/2018 23:53

Ha! @Flossie44

Flossie44 · 27/10/2018 23:56

Just nearly wet myself at name change GrinGrin

Dionysa · 28/10/2018 00:02

No idea what you are talking about, Flossie. Gin

NC4Now · 28/10/2018 01:50

🤣🤣 @swampy

I have had a lovely evening - it’s possible I’ve spent the evening with swampy though. Wine, cheese, gin, charcuterie... it was all lush... but absolutely no self control!

CottonSock · 28/10/2018 08:15

Who is the swampy here???

Dionysa · 28/10/2018 12:50

Cotton, the Swampy thing came about because Flossie said in one of her posts: "It was always a full bottle of wine a night but I try and leave some in the bottom now for swampy." She then wrote a second post, saying "Wtf was ‘leave some in bottle for swampy’?! Grin Grin. No idea where that came from or why!! Grin" So Swampy is now our New Best Friend...

Dionysa · 28/10/2018 12:51

Glad the date went well, NC4Now. I am miserable and regretting last night.

NC4Now · 28/10/2018 16:34

Ahh Dionysa. Can’t be undone. And it was Saturday.
What is it you’re regretting?

Anglaise1 · 28/10/2018 17:14

Sounds like you have all had nice weekends dry or not! I haven't had one day AF in the last 10 days, no more than a couple of glasses but way over my self imposed weekly limit!
I did the Rennes marathon today and did a PB, 3h30 with a podium for 2nd in my category. The marathon I did this time last year took 13mns longer. Moderating has meant I've lost 6kg and am generally much fitter. Happy Sunday to you all!

Dionysa · 28/10/2018 17:17

Excellent news, Anglaise! And lovely to see the photo, too.

Horrid day here today, but I'll get over it. Last night was horrid as well (one of DP's 'excluding me' weekends).

NC4Now, I just regret having drunk too much for no reason at all other than being DC-free and sorry for myself. I slept badly as a result, and have felt rubbish all day. But at least I didn't send any embarrassing texts or what have you (this has been known...)

Flossie44 · 28/10/2018 17:26

Wahooooo anglais, that’s superb!! Well done you!! Absolutely fab!! I am pushing myself to get back into running. My neighbour has offered to come with me but she’s about 2min a mile quicker than me currently!! I’m so so slow. My body is heavier and older..my mind is where it used to be. So overall finding it hugely frustrating!!

Dion - hey hunny..push last night to back of your mind and think ahead. You did 3 AF’s last week. Overall, I bet this week has been drier than the week before..you really CAN do this XX
