New thread for those wanting to reduce alcohol. Always supportive and friendly. No judgements, just support to get to where we feel comfortable with our relationship with alcohol. All welcome.

Am a bit rubbish with clicky links but there are previous threads.

I don't know why males arent expected to step up. Male cousin is single, no job, no responsibility other than his own selfish ways and because he occasionally does a bit of shopping or makes aunt lunch is 'doing his best'. It probably is his best but that's because he's a lazy, selfish bastard. Cousin doing the best she can and more but it will never be enough. Auntie very down and low and feeling sorry for herself which is to be expected but lashing out at her daughter because she knows everyone else won't put up with it.

It's a shitty situation.

Cross posted Frouby. That’s a really hard one to be in the middle of.
Your cousin sounds run into the ground.

waterandlemonjuice · 15/11/2018 22:23

Dionysa, phone calls from my ds always end up with me transferring large amounts of cash too, he treats me like a cash machine. Except I never say “no available funds” so I’m probably better than a cash machine. He is renting with friends next year and reckons we have to pay £525 rent now for Sept 2019 - I’ve said wtf and it’s gone quiet so hoping not really.

I come home, eat (dh cooks too) make lunch for the next day, feed dd (gets in at 4.30), deal with post and then take to my bed, having sorted clothes for the next day and taken my make up off. My bed is a super king size and I have an en-suite and an amazing tv and loads of pillows so I sit here and read or watch tv or talk to dh or dd. Tonight I have a jug of iced water and slices of lemon on the side table next to me. I tell myself I am going for Alexis Colby but I’m probably closer to Waynetta Slob...

DD came and asked to watch Tom and Jerry in bed with me tonight, it was lovely. Funny how they like going back to childish things when they’re stressed. Understandable, too.

Dionysa · 15/11/2018 22:24

Frouby, that is shitty indeed.

My Not very DUncle used to see DGM once a week for half an hour after he had played sodding ping-pong. The expectations of men are astonisingly low.

Dionysa · 15/11/2018 22:28

Water Alexis Colby!!!!! Now there's a throwback!!!!!! She was my heroine, and I fancied Dex Dexter something rotten Blush.

I am so jealous of your en-suite and SK bed. I share a bathroom with the DC. The entire house would fit into the kitchen of my marital home. Sigh.

I was, happily, unable to oblige DS yesterday as I was in Lidl. Ha! I don't have a smartphone, so can only transfer money when I am at home, as he knows... I dare say he has survived without pizza for one night...

Flossie44 · 15/11/2018 22:33

Frouby - what a shit situation for all involved. Your poor cousin must be torn in two!! Such an emotional involvement but no full control. Poor thing. And you for being in the middle.

Water - my ds is at uni. Second year. Sharing with his mates. We pay £600 per month for the privilege!! He chose the house. We said.. have that house, have no parental cash machine too!!

Haggisfish · 15/11/2018 22:44

Hello all, I’m really sorry to hear about the shitty situations some people are in. It’s rubbish. I saw my alcohol support worker again and she’s been really great. I managed one sober night last week and she suggested making the same night sober so it becomes ‘no drink’ Thursday and o don’t have to do the Will I won’t I decision making. It worked! No booze tonight either. She’s really helped me.

waterandlemonjuice · 15/11/2018 22:44

Dionysa I fancied Dex Dexter too!! Looking back, total slime ball!

Flossie, yeah, 2nd year uni for my ds too - is £££££££££££££££££££££

waterandlemonjuice · 15/11/2018 22:46

Urgh

waterandlemonjuice · 15/11/2018 22:47

Woo hoo and we’ll done Haggisfish🙂

Dionysa · 15/11/2018 23:01

Water hahahahahahahahaha I want to be Alexis. Though perhaps not with Dex, now I've seen him again!! 😂

Well done from me too, Haggis. I have to be dry on Mondays, as I have to drive DD to and from athletics now that it's dark so early. It helps. However much I want a drink, I can't have one!

longestlurkerever · 16/11/2018 11:22

Grin at Alexis! And well done Haggis! Friday is normally my worst day - reward syndrome doubled! As long as I don't go over 1/2 bottle and wake up without a hangover I'm going to be happy.

CottonSock · 16/11/2018 14:56

Blimey. If we moved house with an 11 month old frouby my dh would not have survived that.. I guess the reason we are still married is that he is much more calm and placid than me. Must have been his mum's doing, but no real gender divide either. I do a load more organising shit, but I'm a control freak lol and work much less. I shall thank my dh later.

My dad on the other hand, I have no words to describe how different. My mum is starting to struggle with memory so he is going to need domestic skills 101.

I'm counting down until Tesco arrive with my wine ration. Dd asleep and I really should wake he but I have a cold and bad sleep due to sneezing and sniffing. She's going to be awake very late, but dh will be here then Grin

Flossie44 · 16/11/2018 15:06

Hahahahaha I sooooooo want to be Alexis right now!! Omg Just imagine!!! 😂😂

That’s a great idea re the ‘no drink day’. I try and tell myself if I’m going for 2 af days then sun and mon are easy ones.
Seriously moderated again last night. Drunk about 300ml of wine. And it was a struggle to be honest. This ear inf is making me feel yuk so have gone off the taste!!!!!! Never ever in my life felt like I don’t want wine!! Anyway..bought bottle of champers for tonight..the buyers of our house are popping over so thought I’d offer them a celebratory drink!! God..why does everything involve a bloody necessity drink!!!!
Also celebratory in the fact dd has managed her first whole week at school in months!! Completed 5 whole days!! 🎉🎉

Happy Friday everyone!!

waterandlemonjuice · 16/11/2018 16:05

Flossie that’s fab about dd and five days, you must be pleased and relieved 🙂

Happy Friday everybody. I’m not drinking tonight unless dh suggests going out in which case I will. We may do as there’s not much food in the house. But if we stay in I won’t drink. No white wine here anyway!!

I have been AF 5 days this week though so quite pleased with that.

Flossie44 · 16/11/2018 16:34

Water - that’s fabulous!! You’ve done so well!!

waterandlemonjuice · 16/11/2018 20:34

Didn’t go out, didn’t drink, so that’s day 6 AF today 🙂

Dionysa · 16/11/2018 23:29

FML. That is all.
Others have done better!!
So glad about your DD, though, Flossie.
Water, that is fab.
@Wrongwayup how did hypno go? I have invested a lot in this!!

longestlurkerever · 17/11/2018 08:14

FML too. Weirdly though I did stick to half a bottle and still feel shit. Has my tolerance reduced already?

longestlurkerever · 17/11/2018 08:16

Great news about your DD, Flossie, and the move! Well done Water! Wjat did you do instead? Did it feel ok not drinking on a Friday?

Haggisfish · 17/11/2018 10:04

Flossie-hope ear feels better. And great news about dd. Water, well done-such an achievement. Longest-could be reducing tolerance. Well done on sticking to 300ml though. I was a right twat and chugged pretty much a bottle last night and feel awful this morning. However, if I stay af tonight I’ll have had 22 units this week and 2 dry nights, both of which would be an achievement for me.

NC4Now · 17/11/2018 12:45

Some brilliant moderating and AFing going on here. Well done ladies!!

Date 1 last night. Turns out he’s mates with my best friend’s ex. I wouldn’t say it was a disaster (I was good friends with her ex and am in quite an awkward situation there) but when he started telling me how much he dislikes bf I thought: this is a non starter. Plenty of beer drunk though.

Date 2 this afternoon....

Haggisfish · 17/11/2018 13:55

Oh god-awks!! Hope date 2 goes well!!

waterandlemonjuice · 17/11/2018 18:04

Omg NC4, that’s not good. Hope date 2 was better.

I took to my bed last night at 9 ish a la Alexis Colby and it was fine not drinking. I’m away with DD tonight in a hotel and we are about to go out to a restaurant so I have made a conscious decision to drink wine tonight. And maybe a glass of champagne. But if I then stick to AF Sunday - Thursday next week I think that’ll be ok. We had a lovely walk along a beach earlier and a mooch around some shops so we’re having a good time. She seems happier although who knows with teenagers?

Sorry to all the FML-ers 💐

Lurker yes I reckon your tolerance has reduced already
