Not dry january. But less booze in general. Anyone else?

I am posting this thread because I really want to reduce the amount of alcohol I drink.

I was going to do dry January but think that is too much for me. And when I do drink again I will revert back to bad habits.

On a normal week I would have 1 or 2 g and ts mon to thurs. Bottle of wine on a friday. Then either a couple of beers or a couple of g and ts on a Saturday night. Nothing on sunday.

Over Christmas (which started for us mid December as we had a holiday) I have drank every day. Never been drunk drunk but 4 or 5 drinks every day.

I feel fat, bloated and lethargic. I want to cut my drinking down to a couple of nights a week. Friday and Saturday. Or thursday and friday. DP also drinks most days (more than me too) and we both need to address our relationship with alcohol.

I didn't drink last night and won't tonight either. And I feel 100% better already. We get married in May and I want to lose weight and improve my health.

Does anyone else want to join this thread for support? I know there is the dry January thread but I will be drinking (probably) 2 days a week so dont want to post on there and knock any penguins off the ice.

Currently drinking ginger ale with loads of ice and contemplating a shower and a cupp of tea later with the last of the Christmas cake (diet starts tomorrow) 😁

Errrghh. I would need to be pissed to witness that Blush. Glad you enjoyed yourself. I'm also hungover.. day out and lots of fun so worth it

AthenaAshton · 15/04/2018 18:55

Blimey. I didn't realise strippers went the whole hog. I'm not sure I'd want to see anyone's todger other than DP's, so I sympathise. Good for your dsis!

Hoping to be dry tonight after very wet one last night. I seem to find Day One ok (as I'm still suffering, on the whole), Day Two very difficult and Day Three impossible at the moment. Sad

woosey35 · 15/04/2018 22:15

Frouby.....crikey, sounds like you had the whole hog hen do!! Well done for holding it together and still be ok today!! And for your dsis for entertaining his ‘lad’ for you!! Grin

Hello all.

Dry here today after a wet weekend. Am anticipating a bit of a wet week if I am honest. Have lots to do on the allotment and the weather is going to be nice so I suspect we will be working on the allotment each teatime. Then coming home and having a drink or two.

I am ok with that tho. We don't get much nice weather and the grafting will hopefully cancel out the calories. Am going to take it steady tho. And stay off lager as it's just too many calories.

That sounds a good plan frouby. It’s hard when the summer sun appears. Makes you feel chilled and ready to sip a glass in the sunshine doesn’t it.
We live near the beach and often spend evenings on the beach in the summer then walk home and sit outside with a glass of wine or 3!! It’s just such a lovely lifestyle. Just not sure my liver feels the same!!
Dry here tonight....did a kettle bells class early evening..makes me feel I want to keep that healthy feeling!! Not even thought about alcohol or felt the need for it. Maybe this is the answer 🤷🏻‍♀️

AthenaAshton · 16/04/2018 22:15

Evening all,
Day 2 AF here. Not too bad, as I have been feeling under the weather today so haven’t felt like eating or drinking much. Day 3 tomorrow will, as always, be my test. I am starting to realise that I find it impossible to have just the one - my off switch is disabled after the first. So I need to try to aim for several days a week AF to counteract the days when I can consume an entire bottle of wine...

woosey35 · 16/04/2018 22:38

Athena - sorry to hear you’re not well. I agree re the off switch being disabled. Mine is too. And if I open a bottle, then I usually finish it. So I had a whole bottle each night of Friday, sat and Sunday!! So I now need to try and stay as dry for as many nights as poss to bring things back a little into order!!

Get well soon. Z

AthenaAshton · 17/04/2018 12:27

Thanks, Woosey. Just a cold, kindly shared by DC2. But if it keeps me off the demon drink, I shouldn't complain. Determined to do Day 3 today, but we have been there before, many times...

woosey35 · 17/04/2018 13:58

Athena, hope you feel better soon 💐
Bit of a crap adrenaline filled morn involving emergency at school with dd. Ok now but my heart racing and I’m now thinking my dry night may be wet!! Also can’t go to Zumba tonight now which means nothing to stop me downing a bottle of Pinot and screaming fml over and over

Myusernameisunique · 17/04/2018 14:04

I'd like to join please! Been drinking Friday to Sunday every weekend for the past while and it's sometimes spread into the week. Its too much and it makes me feel like crap! I'm starting back an early morning exercise class in Saturday so I don't drink on a Friday night and I'm limiting what I drink on by drinking long drinks and only having one bottle of tonic water. Trying to avoid wine altogether. Going on holiday in a few weeks so I want to feel better for going away! I'm doing a 5 day juice this week but think I'll struggle with the nice weather. I need to be strong!

AthenaAshton · 17/04/2018 20:18

Oh Woosey, I am so sorry to hear it. I would be soaking wet in your situation. I hope your DD has remained ok since you posted. Flowers

Welcome, myusername. Sending strong vibes your way. You sound as if you are slightly ahead of me. Though (cue fanfare): Day 3 is almost over. FML.

woosey35 · 17/04/2018 22:59

Wahoooooooo Athena.....day 3!!!!!!’ You’ve rocked it!!! Wahoooooooo!!

Fml!! Yup ambulance to dd school today for anaphylaxis!! Ffs!! Fml. Can never switch off. Always turn to wine!! So licking the bottom of bottle
Of Pinot currently!!!!!!! Fml

Frouby · 18/04/2018 06:51

Oh christ woosey. I would be rocking in the corner with gin. Fml and ffs definetly. Hope she is ok now.

Athena that's fantastic. 3 days is hard going (nods head emoji). I am ok at 1, 2 is a struggle but 3 has been impossible lately.

I was wet last night. We moved about 2 tons of woodchippings last night on the allotment. Was hard graft and I definetly built up a thirst. We didnt get home until 7pm nearly. I had 3 lagers which I am ok with.

Will probably be wet tonight as well. Got a wedding planning meeting today then more chippings coming.

Will need a drink to get over the shock of paying the wedding bill.

^^ This is it in a nutshell!!! I am likely to have a drink tonight to celebrate getting through Day Three, though that will of course just mean I have to do another Day One (etc). Sigh.

Hope your DD is ok today, Woosey...

woosey35 · 18/04/2018 09:22

God we are all on the same wavelength here!! 1 is easy as usually due to hangover and hard to face it!! 2 is an accomplishment so needs to be celebrated by not having a 3!! I need to be hypnotised to believe that actually a 3 and 4 is and even better accomplishment and not think fml so much!!!!

woosey35 · 18/04/2018 09:23

Thanks..dd gone into school so I’m keepinf my fingers and toes crossed!!

Myusernameisunique · 18/04/2018 10:02

Thanks for the welcome Athena i'm now on day 3 as well. Juicing is making it easier to stay on track! Its not that nice here today which removes the temptation to drink a little for me. At a party on Saturday so my aim is to get to there and enjoy a couple but then get up and do something with DD's and DH on Sunday morning as a deterrent to drinking too much! DH is worse than me with the drinking so we're trying hard to support each other but we're both terrible for dropping off the bandwagon and taking the other with us!

AthenaAshton · 18/04/2018 20:06

Fail. FML.

woosey35 · 18/04/2018 22:21

Fml too!! Went to kettle bell class. Thought I was hardcore so bypassed the shop on way home. No wine therefore in house!! Perfect!! However having poured myself a tonic with limes in, I realised there was a lil bottle of Bombay sapphire hiding in the cupboard!! Sadly it fell into my tonic..and here I am!! Epic fail!!
Fml over!!

Frouby · 19/04/2018 07:33

Fml here too.

Not bothered tho. Warm weather is so rare I want to enjoy it. Calories will be negated by allotmenting and moving a fuckton x 5 of woodchippings this week. Plus digging a huge potato bed.

Fml but I deserved the nice cold pints I had.

CottonSock · 19/04/2018 08:22

Fail here too. Finished the gin so no booze left. Day 1 again. I also got excited by sunshine and it was a manic day at work.

AthenaAshton · 19/04/2018 08:26

I think I said further up the thread that I don't get hangovers. Well, I was wrong. I think I am dying. Yet again, it's that blasted 'off' switch which doesn't work. Sad At least it should mean that Day One (again) is not too difficult. And we are all doing Day One Again together, by the sounds of it...

Myusernameisunique · 19/04/2018 14:53

Day 4 for me! This is the first time in aaaaages I've got to day 4 and I've stuck to my juicing. Weathers still not great here though (central Scotland) it's warm and dry but not very sunny. Tomorrow will be my challenge although if I juice all day im hoping that'll be enough to keep me on track. If there was proper sunshine I'd most likely be back to day 1 with everyone else plus I'd have probably given up on juicing and had a BBQ!

pontiouspilates · 19/04/2018 18:12

Hi all, Day 6 here (squeal!) have had a couple of epic nights sleep, which has totally recharged my batteries! I'm out tonight but driving so won't drink. Parents are visiting on Saturday- so will need a glass of something come Saturday night! Hope you are all well x

AthenaAshton · 19/04/2018 18:36

Pontius - day 6?!? Wow!!!!! Something to aim for. Smoothie here tonight, and chips. Then bed. Feel atrocious (own fault).
