Not dry january. But less booze in general. Anyone else?

I am posting this thread because I really want to reduce the amount of alcohol I drink.

I was going to do dry January but think that is too much for me. And when I do drink again I will revert back to bad habits.

On a normal week I would have 1 or 2 g and ts mon to thurs. Bottle of wine on a friday. Then either a couple of beers or a couple of g and ts on a Saturday night. Nothing on sunday.

Over Christmas (which started for us mid December as we had a holiday) I have drank every day. Never been drunk drunk but 4 or 5 drinks every day.

I feel fat, bloated and lethargic. I want to cut my drinking down to a couple of nights a week. Friday and Saturday. Or thursday and friday. DP also drinks most days (more than me too) and we both need to address our relationship with alcohol.

I didn't drink last night and won't tonight either. And I feel 100% better already. We get married in May and I want to lose weight and improve my health.

Does anyone else want to join this thread for support? I know there is the dry January thread but I will be drinking (probably) 2 days a week so dont want to post on there and knock any penguins off the ice.

Currently drinking ginger ale with loads of ice and contemplating a shower and a cupp of tea later with the last of the Christmas cake (diet starts tomorrow) 😁

Afternoon all.

My hen night will require stiff drinks all round I think. My family and friends are a little, erm, fiery shall we say.

My youngest sister is a bit volatile with a drink in her. My cousin is coming along with her wife who has just had an affair. They are working through their issues but youngest sister is likely to insult cousins wife as she doesn't like her anyway.

My sil is coming. She is a bit of a cold fish and has a very high opinion of herself. Not many other people do. And she will be vile as she gets ruder the more people are around.

One of my other sisters is also a bit fiery with drink in her.

My dozy auntie and other cousin are coming. Dozy auntie is like Sue Pollard from Hi De Hi. My cousin is odd and barely speaks. Have had 3 conversations with her in 30 years. She also whispers which is annoying. Nothing wrong with her from a mental health point of view. She is just odd.

Best friend is coming. She is a party animal and we used to regularly go out out together. She is making a huge, huge mistake in her personal life atm. Have been honest and told her she is making a mistake. It will end horribly for her but she is stubborn and will see it through then moan and blame everyone else for her problems.

The rest of the hen night will hopefully behave. But can see those few people being hard bloody work. My plan is meet at 7.30pm, few drinks then have booked a table at an Italian for 8.30pm. Hoping that soaks some alcohol up. Then drinks round town afterwards.

Am planning on bolting at a sensible time. Before it gets really messy.

Remind me of that on sunday morning when I am hanging and cringing at all the bad behaviour 😂😂.

Planning dry tonight. Ds started full time nursery today and have had a very productive day workwise but done very little housework other than chuck a few loads of washing in. Now got ds swimming lesson ( which I have to get in with him) and then having a load of wood chipings dropped off at our allotment.

Ds will be knackered. As will I but I can't open a can of lager or pour a gin. Have got a tummy from the drinking over easter and don't think I will get the jeans on I am wearing for my hen 😂😂😂

Woosey, thanks for asking. Not great. But I know that wine (or similar) only makes it worse...

I have to collect one of the DC from a friend's this evening. This involves driving, so that will help. Spent last night comprehensively cleaning the bathroom, which helped to fill the time (as Anglaise rightly suggests).

Love your description of the personnel, Frouby. And glad to hear you have had a productive time work-wise!

CottonSock · 09/04/2018 20:13

Frouby. I def think you are excused from af on your hen, and several days after :)

My wine belly hardly fits in jeans. Period bloat also. Half a stone heavier and on day 1 AF. No booze in house

Frouby · 09/04/2018 20:55

My tummy has been awful Cottonsocks. Bloating, (tmi) trapped wind, either constipated or running to the loo.

I don't think it's the actual alcohol. But the side effects of eating junk and too much bread. Because I am always hungrier when I have a hangover. Or more likely to order takeaway when have had a couple. Have put 4lbs on in 3 weeks. Not good.

Was a bit twitchy earlier. Got in and had both kids and dp wittering on at me. The urge to dull my hearing with a gin was strong but I forced a pint of water down instead. Food hasn't been brilliant today. Had no lunch but picked at DS left over pasta and then had an M and S chicken pie thing, veg and parminter spuds. So all very carby and high fat but at least I didn't have a sarnie on white bread and a bowl of crisps for lunch.

Have 2 bottles of wine in the cupboard. Trying to pretend they aren't there. If I get really twitchy I will have G and T. Least the calories aren't as bad.

Second night AF here tonight. Am already thinking about caving in tomorrow 🙄🙄

woosey35 · 09/04/2018 21:06

Frouby - your hen do sounds interesting. I’m sure you’ll have a fab time despite the different characters. Remember it’s YOUR night!!
I’m with you all on the wine tummy..I’ve put on 11lb since Christmas!!

Anglaise1 · 09/04/2018 22:02

Think of the £s as well as the lbs you can save by cutting right down on booze - it isn't cheap!

AthenaAshton · 09/04/2018 22:56

Frouby, did you resist the siren call of the wine? I had an entire bottle the other night. Goodness knows how many calories. In fact, if I find out, it might stop me from doing it again. Agree re. filling up with carbs post-wet-night (and during). Have had about 4 blood oranges and an apple today to try to fill the craving hours.

Woosey, we have both now done TWO NIGHTS!!!!!!! Whoop, whoop. What's more, there was a change of plan here and I had to feed a holidaying neighbour's guinea pigs. She said I could finish off the wine on the kitchen table. Yes, alcohol, and completely free. I was hideously tempted, but resisted. Determined to do three days, not least to test out Anglaise's theory...

woosey35 · 10/04/2018 08:24

Athena....I’m up for the challenge of a THIRD day!! Mind you...the dc aren’t fully up and going yet!!!!!

CottonSock · 10/04/2018 08:44

Day two then... I'm aiming to stay dry till weekend. Problem being that I don't work Friday, so my weekend often starts thurs. Think I need a more specific target. I Will NOT drink until Saturday...

Frouby · 10/04/2018 10:38

Will be day too here.

Bought some cheap.aldi tonic water and limes today to have something nicer than water to drink. If I open a little can of tonic the temptation to chuck in gin is too great.

Hoping to pee off a couple of lbs today. I really do retain water when I drink. Hope it's water weight anyway and not just fat 😐.

Been and done a big shop and put it all away. Done an invoice and just having a coffee while I find the energy to blitz my shit hole of a house.

Got until 3pm to do that and about an hours work.

Wow, you are all doing really well this week. Just try, just for this week, see if you feel the benefits (sleeping better, no fuzzy head or binge eating the next day, less anxiety, being less short tempered with the kids, not counting wine/beer/gin o'clock, enjoying how productive you can actually be with the time you now have not drinking or suffering from a hangover and having clean cupboards!
I still enjoy the drink at the weekend, but can't be arsed to overdo it now, it wastes too much of my time.

pontiouspilates · 10/04/2018 19:02

Day 2 for me. My weekend also starts on a Thursday night, so my specific aim is AF until Friday.

woosey35 · 10/04/2018 19:52

Well.....day 3 prob isn’t going to happen here!! Dh ordered a take away. In my habitual head..I can’t eat a pizza without wine!!!! 🤷🏻‍♀️ What’s a girl supposed to do in this tricky situation?! Tonic and lime just won’t hit the spot! Boo hiss!!

Anglaise1 · 10/04/2018 20:59

Woosey I have pizza every Tuesday after running club, and never thought I could eat it without wine, it's possible, I promise, if you really want to.

AthenaAshton · 10/04/2018 21:01

Oh well. Write-off here, as DP emerged from a wine event, carrying, um, wine. And I know that it is stupid and calorific. But I said yes anyway, because he has been away for days, and is going away again, and I can't say no in that situation. Thank goodness he is not living with me, or there would be no dry days.

Frouby , I did laugh at your pee-ing off a couple of lbs.

No more for me, now, until DP re-appears. Or so I hope.

woosey35 · 10/04/2018 21:18

So since my last post....less than 3 hours ago....I’ve eaten a large pizza, drunk an entire bottle of Pinot, and eaten 3 bags of quavers!!!!!! Fml!! Why did that happen?! I really need to loose half a stone before end of May so what was I thinking!!!

Frouby · 10/04/2018 23:13

Lol Woosey. That sounds like a good night.

Was dry here. Boring but necessary.

Looking forward to a damp Thursday, a moist friday and a soaking wet Saturday 😁

Around 650 calories and 10 units in a bottle of wine. Ugh. So that was last night, and Saturday night. Maybe this will put me off.

Woosey, I feel your pain. If I had been anywhere near Quavers last night, I'd have eaten them too.

Well done on Day Two, Frouby. I seem to manage two days at the moment, then cave in on Day Three. So I now need to aim for three days.

CottonSock · 11/04/2018 13:10

I totalled up the calories I consume in booze last night and ask Google to show me in food..quite ashamed.

But, why can low calorie wine not exist?

Frouby · 11/04/2018 19:12

Evening all

Day 3 here and the struggle is ongoing. Mad oclock at 5pm as usual. Really really wanted a gin. Or a lager. Or a glass of wine. But thought of my new hen jeans and the 2lb I managed to pee off last night and how many bloody times I was up and down so sipped tonic water and did some deep breathing instead.

My dsis has phoned me as well. Other sister is pissed off with me for not inviting her teenage step daughter. I rarely see step daughter. Maybe once or twice a year. She only really goes to sis house once a month atm because she would rather be out with her friends. Really limited on numbers. Yada yada yada.

For the sake of peace I have said she can come. Dsis had said she might not even come if step daughter isnt invited so am majorly pissed off with her but am not supposed to know so can't even call her on it. Fml.

If I ever get married again am eloping. It was supposed to be a really simple low key thing. I have also gained 2 flower girls today. Which I am fine with but it keeps growing in grandeur.

OP posts:
woosey35 · 11/04/2018 20:13

Omg frouby....gained two flower girls?! How?! Your sis sounds like she’s throwing her toys out the pram and not actually thinking it’s YOUR day, not hers!! I think you’re holding your shit together quite miraculously!! Hats off to you frouby!!

Athena and cotton - oh gawd....calories aren’t looking pretty hey!!

Well..gorgeous day on the beach today with dc, and dd friend. Was actually pretty calm and lovely. Then walked a few holes of golf course with Dh this eve!! So all In all lovely. So what does woosey do?!?! Pour herself vino to chink chink herself!!!! Arghhhhhhh!!
I keep saying to myself “well two days in miraculous this week so what the hell!!” Instead of ‘you did fab, keep on going!’

AthenaAshton · 11/04/2018 22:17

Oh, Frouby... What can I say?! Other than I am glad I am not getting married!!! You will have a lovely day when it comes to it, but what a load of stress meanwhile. I love the way you write about it all, if that's any consolation...

Woosey, I completely sympathise.

Dry here tonight. Day One again. Sigh. Absolutely effing exhausted, as was awake at 3 AM with desperate beer-fear, and didn't properly go back to sleep. So this evening, have had a smoothie, some M&Ms (and I don't even like chocolate), a cup of tea and a Purdey's vitamin drink.

woosey35 · 11/04/2018 22:32

Go girl!! Athena, you can do this!!

Bottle down the hatch here!! Fml!!

Promised myself I’ll go to slimming world Friday. Only way I’ve managed to cut down on alcohol before!! The guilt to weigh in front of two women who are looking at the scales!! Pahhh....can’t believe it’s come to this!!
