Has anyone read Jilly Cooper's The Rivals? How prescient was that book about the horrible, cut-throat environment of independent TV, the battling it out between Corinium and Venturer for the franchise, and the phoney, saccharine presenters who behind their Colgate smiles were as ruthless as they come?

Special shoutout for the gormless-as-they-come presenter called James Vereker - who's having an affair behind the scenes but is always spouting the slogan 'Corinium cares'. He loves to declare that he's 'showing his caring face' and telling all the interviewees who appear on his sofa that he knows how 'caring' they are. The word's bandied about every time he appears in the book, but his behaviour suggests exactly the opposite.

I'm wondering how far up to their necks in it ITV really are, and whether Cooper has indeed foreshadowed something!

I find it a bit odd that ITV, Holly, This Morning etc. are seemingly so desperate to appear shocked, let down, apologetic etc etc. Right now, there is no hard evidence of any wrongdoing or illegal activity, if all PS has done is "just" have an affair with a much younger colleague then why are they are falling over themselves to be seen to be doing the right thing in reaction to it. There's more to come out I reckon, and they all know that. Hence all the performance virtue signalling, they are just trying to get in front of it before the shit truly hits the fan.

He either doesn’t actually want to be PM or he’s just really dense if he thinks focus on “attack of the killer immigrant dinghies” is going to swing the next election for him! The Tories have had 13 years in power, hacked at the foundations of the entire economy with Brexit, and they STILL havent cut immigration and yet are STILL banging on about it like it’s the next big thing. It’s actually pretty funny.

Basically, the shows dated and the format is also dated (similar to the Big Breakfast with Denise and Johnny where a quick-witted guy leads the show and the pretty, blond haired female stares on adoringly and nods and giggles along. How can it be relevant anymore? Fern was a threat because she was too smart.
