Duffy: Does she ever wear ANYTHING other than a teeny strapless black dress, and other rants....

I managed to get through most of last year without having any feelings, good or bad, towards Duffy. Had heard her songs on the radio a few times, saw a picture of her once or twice, and that was pretty much it.

Over the past month however she seems to have been on TV non-stop: TOTP, SCD etc etc, and then last night on Jools Holland. And every time she has been wearing that stooopid dress (it is possible they are different LBDs but all are v short and strapless.
She, her dress, and those ridiculous arm movements to 'Mercy' make me want to throw things at the television.

Please tell me I am not alone.

Kelly Jones was swoonsome.......It was like listening to Handbags and Gladrags for the first time (once I had shaken off the image of Ricky Gervais )

Do you think we should let Jools in on our very detailed critique?

Oh God - just remembered the Jo Brand, Debra Meadon (sp?) and bloke from Gavin and Stacey love in...boak

We usually watch Jools, although I think it has lost some of the shine for DH since he discovered about 2 years ago that it wasn't live! Bless him, I had been telling him for years but he wasn't getting it.

Sadly, we didn't bother last night since there wasn't anybody on it I wanted to see and I actively dislike Duffy.

Why is she on everything? She can't sing - imo she warbles (and that isn't a good thing) and she dances like she has done something in her pants and doesn't want to move her legs too much.

Can you tell I'm not a fan?

Kelly Jones is cute though I do think he wouldn't look out of place on top of the Christmas tree given his size.

LoveMyLapTop · 01/01/2009 22:00

WWW fogot that bit! It was so wierd and cringey, what were they doing?

MrsMattie · 01/01/2009 22:01

Duffy manages to have a face that is pretty but at the a same time intensely annoying and extremely slappable. As the Yanks say - Go figure!

WalkinginWaynettaWonderland · 01/01/2009 22:06

LMAO Niecie!!

Actually, do you think that it's maybe a case of here being a totally crap dancer, so she's been told to stand still and wriggle a bit? Just had a look at her website (iamduffy.com ) and the video for Rain on your Parade is the same as everything else. Knees bending, arms doing straight stuff, skirt short enough to work out when she had her last waxing.....

does she have kids?
might be a pelvic floor thing

Judd · 01/01/2009 22:15

Did anybody notice anything odd about the sound there? When Jools spoke to his "amazingly talented, beautiful guests", his mic didn't relay any of the conversation to the rest of the audience. So not only were the likes of Lenny Henry, Al Murray etc. NOT FUNNY, they couldn't even rely on a sympathy chuckle from the rest of their fellow artistes, because they couldn't hear a darned word!

And there's always somebody dressed as Big Ben, crazily drinking through a very large straw.

WilfSell · 01/01/2009 22:16

rofl at pelvic floor

I imagine not: the way she was encouraging Lenny led me to believe she hadn't yet joined the Dark Side of those of us who know What Happens After You Have Children.

beanieb · 01/01/2009 22:17

She is too short and stocky for the dresses she wears, she should go 50's style. Someone seems to have told her short is good for short people. Lenny Henry was a bit of an arse wasn't he!

moondog · 01/01/2009 22:17

'My uncle and cousin went to see Duffy last month and said she is a proper minger - is very short and very chubby in real life and looks like she hit every branch on the way down and then went up for another go.'

Don't hold back now Madame.

Snort at Big Ben comment.

beanieb · 01/01/2009 22:17

and the new song is a load of old northern soul lines mashed into one song!

WilfSell · 01/01/2009 22:26

And...

...she stood on a fucking pedestal ALL NIGHT.

Get over yerself you daft woman.

maybe just a Tad WWW!

beanieb · 01/01/2009 22:35

Someone is styling her badly/ Either that or she's ignoring the sylist.

Niecie · 01/01/2009 22:38

I'm with you all the way on this one WWW.

I actually get quite cross when she comes on anything and need to turn it off. I can't think of anybody that elicits quite the same response.

(And I checked out your link, not having seen it last night - you see you are not alone. )

OneDS · 01/01/2009 22:43

We were sat discussing JH show last night too. DP went all sulky when I said I thought Kelly Jones was the most beautiful man in the world - his first repsonse was 'nah what about jonny depp' Sigh. And yes I know Kelly is short but I could overlook that.

I was watching Lenny and wondering what Dawn would say too. Wasn't very impressed at all with the show last night really. Loved the ting tings and KJ's rendition of My Girl, that was about it really.

Tinker · 02/01/2009 01:19

See, I quite like the name Kelly for a boy now...

JH lost teh shine for me too when I discovered it wasn't live. I wanted to believe that famous people were spending NYE entertaining me and weren't really out. Now I realise that they have a party there and are all prob out having a good time on NYE as well.

Countingtheflocksbynight · 02/01/2009 14:30

Crikey, just paused in the middle of my bingo-wing work-out to say I regret mentioning Annie Lennox now poor love; really surprised she's attracted such vitriole here

I only caught the last bit of the show ... but I like her voice (lots of humanity in there) and she comes across as very down-to-earth to me, but I am old so may be it's a generation thing ...

... didn't even notice what she was wearing tbh (but could put that down to too many whisky macs combined with chronic myopia)

I did enjoy the Ponty Pines Tinka Toys Ping Pongs or whatever they were called though ... [wrinkly emoticon]

carrotsandpeasifyouplease · 02/01/2009 20:54

Tings Tings were very good
I didn't know it wasn't live, what a rip off
Lenny Henry was very cringe-worthy

Duffy - apart from really liking her album, I have to say that it is refreshing that she isn't a skinny glossed up singer a la Girls Aloud.

fruitbeard · 04/01/2009 20:30

Didn't watch it but I do wish Duffy wouldn't sing down her nose - it's soooo irritating!

And the TOTP Xmas/NY editions were recorded in November, as a friend of mine was in the audience. If you recall a ridiculously tall man wigging out in front of the Kaiser Chiefs, that was him...

MollyCherry · 05/01/2009 22:07

I quite like Duffy's music but we were watching her on JH round a mates house on NYE and all came to the conclusion she reminded us of those robot bimbos in Austin Powers that shoot bullets from their norks...
