Really waterproof and warm (and waterproof!) coats

I know this has been asked before but really would be grateful for recommendations. Even with waterproof spray my Seasalt one isn’t cutting it in this weather. Thank you!

Regatta. I have this one. Genuinely warm and waterproof. And it's in the sale.

Waterproof means something like Goretex but you are balancing warmth with breathability. If you walk/run you get warm so you perhaps need to layer up. Warm layers eg wool under a Waterproof shell. There isn't one coat to rule them all. Goretex is expensive. That regatta looks good for the money but is there a budget and an intended use?

You can buy a waterproofing liquid from camping shops if you don’t want to buy a new coat. I’ve waterproofed items several times. You just put it in the wash with your coat & let it air dry.

I’ve just bought the Craghoppers Rosalind II coat and wore it yesterday for the first time. I came home toasty warm and dry. I wanted a longer one for really shitty weather. I got a fantastic deal by buying straight from Craghoppers and buying the olive green one. If you become a member you get another 10% off and even more if you use the WARMTH code so I got it for £55 when it’s on member offer in Go Outdoors for £110 at the moment so I was really chuffed.

I'm a big fan of nordic brands. I think they make really good quality winter weather gear. I rate the following:

Tenson
Haglofs
Didriksons
Fjallraven

I usually buy them from ebay / vinted as they are not cheap. I currently have a Tenson long parka and it is so warm and waterproof with a really good hood.

Delta roam is perfect for cold wet days https://share.google/p7kXZKYwS1TSpRLuF:

If you aren't too bothered about style, you are looking for something that meets EN343:3 standard.

I have a work jacket that I can wear to walk the dogs and it is bullet proof and I only need a t shirt under it in -3°C.

Something like from here:

Second @HappiestSleeping. Also, if you don’t mind looking like a wanker, then the changing robes are waterproof, warm and roomy and best of all, cheap. You can pick one up at Miuntain Warehouse for £50 or thereabouts.

AlwaysExtraHot · 24/10/2026 16:29

Go Scandi. They know how to deal with proper weather, and they can make practical coats look stylish.
Expensive, but TKK Maxx sometimes have some, or Google for the brand and you’ll probably find an outdoor shop somewhere arbitrary that’s having a sale on them (that’s how I got my Didriksons one).

Topbird29 · 24/10/2026 17:39

Have always found Berghaus to.be waterproof. Sometimes they do coats with a removable fleece inner - usually on Mountain Warehouse site

99doubledeckerbuses · 24/10/2026 17:51

Another vote for didriksons. Not the cheapest but in this shitty weather my coat is keeping me warm and dry in a way no other coat has.

Astrabees · 24/10/2026 18:46

I use my ancient Didrikson for dog walking because it is very warm and waterproof. I have a new Seasalt Janelle which I wore for a trip to London yesterday, that is also warm and at this stage waterproof but looks good enough to have as a best waterproof warm jacket. I'd also recommend Sweaty Betty, I have a black parka style coat that is very good in the rain.

Someone recommended this last year:
https://www.mandmdirect.com/gb/en/product/qw30236/trespass-womens-audrey-waterproof-padded-hooded-coat-navy
It's warm and waterproof. My only complaint is that it doesn't have an inside pocket which is useful for a phone or bus pass. Oh, and it's very slippery inside so it can't be worn with a slippery gilet or similar.
I like the Seasalt Janelle coat on other people but on me it looks so frumpy.

Leavemetonguetied · 24/10/2026 19:13

Ski jackets are often warm and waterproof.

oldslyfox · 24/10/2026 19:21

Depending on how stylish you want.... upvote for the EN 343 Jackets, but also don't discount fishing jackets from e.g. Angling Direct or Rage or similar. Can be pricey, but they do work, so long as you like green, or camo.

oldslyfox · 24/10/2026 19:23

And a quick thanks for that link. The safety glasses are a really good price!

Frumpitydoo · 24/10/2026 19:37

Dryrobe. I don't give a fuck, come for me. So warm, cosy, snug and completely warerproof.

WinningBV · 24/10/2026 19:42

Sign up to Sports Pursuit and you'll find great Scandi brands at very good prices.
They have Didrikson. It's a shame I didn't know about the site before I bought my coat 😭
I use Sports Pursuit a lot now, for the whole family, really good deals but limited choice and sizes. If you're looking for something practical, rather than something specific then it's brilliant.

Whatdowehavefordinner · 24/10/2026 19:46

Ski/snowboarding coats with the added plus point they have loads of extra pockets.

haggisaggis · 24/10/2026 19:53

My current Didrikson parka is not as warm as my last one - and the pocket lining ripped in under a month. I don’t feel the quality is as good as the one I got over 10 years ago. (My old one is still great unfortunately I have gone up several sizes and can no longer zip it up)

Tryonemoretime · 24/10/2026 20:05

My Aigle dog walking waterproof coat was bought nearly 25 years ago. It's time we parted company. So Craghoppers?

henlake7 · 24/10/2026 20:32

Another vote for dryrobe here. Got mine off Vinted and it is totally waterproof even in heavy rain and lovely and warm.
only downsides are you do look like a bit of prat and personally I can't wear it unless it's proper cold coz it isn't breathable and I'm a sweaty mare!

fruitpastille · 24/10/2026 21:19

My cotswolds ayacucho coat is great for being warm and waterproof. Just been out to walk the dog in this horrible weather and I stayed warm and dry.
