Really waterproof and warm (and waterproof!) coats

I know this has been asked before but really would be grateful for recommendations. Even with waterproof spray my Seasalt one isn’t cutting it in this weather. Thank you!

Regatta. I have this one. Genuinely warm and waterproof. And it's in the sale.

Thanks for posting this. Does the hood have a drawstring round it, can’t tell from the photos.

I have recommended the Fjallraven Nuuk Parka before. It's seriously warm and waterproof and has lasted several East Coast winters.
Patagonia also makes very warm coats.
Lands End also makes waterproof down jackets that are very warm for UK winters.

I've just bought this from Acai and it was very waterproof in yesterdays wind and rain, https://acaioutdoorwear.com/collections/aw26-autumn-in-motion/products/river-waterproof-jacket-deep-khaki . I wanted something that wasn't too shiny and outdoorsy and it has a higher waterproofing level than the Seasalt equivalents. If I'm walking or doing other outdoorsy stuff I'd wear my Berghaus waterproof, but that has absolutely no style at all!

River Waterproof Jacket - Deep Khaki

Keep our women's khaki raincoat to hand and you'll never need to worry about the weather turning. Waterproof, windproof and stylish; it can only be ACAI

I'm also after a rainproof coat - but unlike others, I DON'T want a very thick one. I'd like one for chilly, wet autumn days when I walk dc to school. I tend to run while they cycle so I'll get hot. But I'd like some lining, not just a thin raincoat.

I have delta roam and it has handled this week really well. I like it a lot

@glassof the hood is fine. Not super snug so might blow off in very windy weather but I’m not normally out in that. Sizing is fairly generous. I’m a 12-14 and the medium is fine on me.

CarpeVitam · Yesterday 14:31

Another for the Seasalt Janelle 👌🏻

Tog 24 Dalton isn't bulky but it is windproof and waterproof so very warm 😊

Second @HappiestSleeping. Also, if you don’t mind looking like a wanker, then the changing robes are waterproof, warm and roomy and best of all, cheap. You can pick one up at Miuntain Warehouse for £50 or thereabouts.

I did this. I was grateful of it when my car broke down.

Can I wash what model of Didrikson people are loving? I look at the website and get overwhelmed by all the different models!

IdleGossip · Yesterday 15:54

I have a Tog24 coat which is very warm and very waterproof. It's a few years old and far too big for me but I won't throw it our because it's so cosy. It's like this one, https://www.tog24.com/products/dalton-womens-waterproof-parka-dark-taupe, but has fleece inside not quilted.

ChubbyCheeksCharlie · Yesterday 16:01

I swear by Didriksons for stylish and waterproof. I don't want a very warm waterproof though - if it's raining, it means the temperature isn't freezing! I layer underneath instead depending on what I'm doing. If walking out of a warm house for a walk in the rain, I'm not going to get cold. If I'm standing on the sidelines in the rain, I'll layer up underneath.

I’ve just bought the Craghoppers Rosalind II coat and wore it yesterday for the first time. I came home toasty warm and dry. I wanted a longer one for really shitty weather. I got a fantastic deal by buying straight from Craghoppers and buying the olive green one. If you become a member you get another 10% off and even more if you use the WARMTH code so I got it for £55 when it’s on member offer in Go Outdoors for £110 at the moment so I was really chuffed.

Wow was just about to post this exact same thing 😂. Got mine this week and went out yesterday in it, it’s amazing!!!

Noeggsontoast · Yesterday 17:26

I got the didriksons Erika last year - saw me through being snowed in last winter and has served well these recent three days of storms. OutdoorGB is where I bought it on sale. This website always has great prices, I buy a fair bit of my outdoor gear from there.

Thanks a lot. Is it warm? I am always cold so it has to be warm as well as waterproof!

Edited

Yes, I find it warm. I live in Scotland and am out in all weathers with the dog! I really like it. I got mine from an outlet shop a couple of years ago and was less than £100 so it pays to shop around. It must be an older design as don’t see it on the Didrickson website. It’s 100% waterproof but doesn’t make you sweaty.

Sorry, only just saw this.

Yes the hood has a locking drawstring.

Picoloangel · Yesterday 20:37

Seasalt Janelle. I have had mine for a couple of years and it’s never failed me! I wore it yesterday in a torrential downpour for a 45 min dog walk and it kept me completely dry. Size up though. Im a 10/12 and had to get a 14.

Carpedimum · Yesterday 20:43

I’ll second the Regatta suggestion; I bought a Christian Lacroix badged coat a couple of years ago to wear when walking the dog and I can honestly say it is the comfiest, warmest, most wind and waterproof coat I’ve ever worn. Obviously the trade off is that it is practical rather than stylish. Similar to this one https://www.regatta.com/womens-marron-waterproof-insulated-jacket-black-mocha/

Warm and protective, the Marron women's jacket is designed for cold, everyday outdoor wear. Mad

I got a Karrimor Weathertite from Sports Direct which coped very well with Orkney midwinter weather - I stayed warm, dry and non-sweaty. It has a removable lining so it does for warmer weather too. I think it was about £50. I got the men's one because the pockets are better. I think they're pretty much identical apart from that.

Stopsnowing · 24/10/2026 23:43

That might have been me! It keeps me dry and dries off itself quickly

And me. For those asking I'm a curvy 12 and got a large, and yes it has a decent hood.

I don't think there is one coat for everything, though. I have a fake Dryrobe because genuinely nothing else works to cover everything down to my ankles including my bag when I'm watching DS play football in the rain. The Audrey is great when it's absolutely freezing whether wet or dry. I have a Burberry wool coat which is the warmest thing I own but not waterproof and can't get dirty, and a Seasalt Boscaswell which is probably the closest thing to an all-rounder but only comes to mid-thigh!

TheFormerMrsTruelove · Yesterday 23:24

Oodie coats. Completely waterproof and feels thin, but fantastically cosy in all weathers
