What’s your morning routine?

doggoneitmercy · 04/10/2026 17:43

Inspired by another thread on how long it takes you to get ready for work each day, thought I’d ask, what’s your morning routine?

Mine is the same every day but the time tends to shift, depending on what work meetings I have. I’m an early riser so rarely set an alarm.

  1. 6am (ish) Wake and tend to dawdle/read news till around 6:45am.
  2. 6:45 ish: Eat breakfast (same thing EVERY day - 3 scrambled eggs and 1 Nespresso strong coffee with 2 shots) and pack lunch (if needed)
  3. 8ish: Shower, makeup, dry hair, iron clothes, get dressed
  4. Leave house around 9:30am for work at 10.

Obviously I do not have small humans in my life so morning routine is rather leisurely compared to many others.

Get up 7.30/7.45
Put the kettle on, empty dishwasher on
Spend an hour waking up and drinking two large cups of tea.
Start my day proper.

Kitkate21 · 04/10/2026 17:53

Up at 430
Empty dishwasher
Gym for 530
Get to work for 7
Home at 4
Then it's chores, washing, cooking supper etc. I'm definitely a morning person!

devildeepbluesea · 04/10/2026 17:56

Wake around 5.45. Radio 4 and 2 coffees before getting out of bed (hot water dispenser). NY times, LinkedIn and Worldle puzzles while I drink my coffee. Up around 6.30-40 to take the dog around the block because he won’t pee in the garden, then back to make DD packed lunch. Get her out the door 7.45, take dog on proper walk. Home for work around 8.45am.

5289843DM · 04/10/2026 17:57

Work start time is flexible and no kids.
Wake about 7:30. Coffee and porridge/cereal/yoghurt and fruit
I WFH so I wander into my office and start work at 8am

I'm more active later in the day whereas DH is up at the crack of dawn.

HardFuckingBird · 04/10/2026 17:59

Wake up any time between 6 and 7. Sex most mornings, followed by coffee in bed. Up at around 7.30am - brush teeth, shower, dry hair, get dressed, makeup on. DH usually gets the children ready for school while I'm in the shower. We drop them off at school on our way to work. I usually start work at 9.15am. On Wednesdays I start work earlier so I don't have time for coffees or sex then 😂

RalphGnu · 04/10/2026 18:04

7am - Get up and make breakfast for DS1. Make coffee for DH, DS1 and myself. Feed the pets and change litter tray.

7:30 - Get DS2 up and make his breakfast and packed lunch.

7:45 Wave off DH and DS1. Get dressed and ready for the day.

8am - DS2 gets dressed and ready. I wash up, make beds, put a load of washing on and straighten the place up.

8:30 - Wave DS2 off. Make another coffee and have breakfast. Scroll for a bit and turn my computer on.

9am - start work (from home) if it's a work day or go back to bed/read/go shopping/do housework.

Ineedanewsofa · 04/10/2026 18:07

Office days - up at 5.50am, wash, dressed, make up, hair. Downstairs by 6.20am. Cuddle dog, make coffee to go, grab breakfast and water out of the fridge, pick up handbag and laptop bag, leave by 6.30am, in office for 7.45am.
WFH days - up at 6.30am, chuck some clothes on, chivvy child to get ready for school, hang up washing that has gone on overnight, have breakfast with DH, log on at 7.30am. Dog is cuddled throughout the day!

SpacesNotTabs · 04/10/2026 18:08

Wake up about 7:30, husband gets up, I fall back to sleep, get up about 8:15, go to the loo, read a bit of my book, on a good day do some yoga, otherwise Radio 4, wash, hormones, teeth, moisturise, make bed, get dressed, dry hair if necessary. Husband will have brought me up a cup of tea at some point. Make breakfast to eat at work, make lunch, leave house about 9:40, walk to work for a 10 am start.

I am trying to be a bit more organised and prep lunch, breakfast and clothes the night before so I can get in to work earlier, but my success is variable!

blankcanvas3 · 04/10/2026 18:15

6am - wake up and put DD1 in bed with DH
6:15am - go for run
7am - wake up DS and DD2, get DD1 and DD2 dressed
7:30am - DH does their breakfast etc whilst I shower and get ready for the day
8:30am - drop DS and DD off

7am - wake up and have a coffee and chill out for a bit.

7.30am - wake DDs up and ask them to get dressed and teeth brushed whilst I make breakfast and sort packed lunches.

8am - go upstairs and get dressed myself and brush my teeth whilst DDs are eating breakfast.

8.30am - leave for school.

9am - I'm back home from the school run and ready to start work (from home).

We all shower in the evenings to make mornings quicker.

devonmum8 · 04/10/2026 18:24

Wake at 5:30am, straight in the shower. Then get dressed and made up while entertaining kids (single mum). Downstairs around 6:30 for breakfast and getting bags and lunches ready. Uniforms on around 7:00. Drive DS2 to breakfast club for 7:30. Back home to wait for DS1’s taxi to SEN provision at 8:05. Hotfoot it to my work in a school for 8:20. Feel like I’ve done a whole day’s work before I get there 💀

Go for a wee.
Open bedroom curtains.
Get back into bed.
DH brings me tea.
Read my book for about 15 mins.
Shower.
Go downstairs.
Cigarette.
More tea and breakfast.
Decide what to do with the rest of the day.

I bloody love it!

Lucyintheskywithnoidea · 04/10/2026 19:10

Up around 4 (thanks peri), coffee, dress, walk dogs, drive, gym, shower, dress again, skincare, makeup, hair, breakfast and in work for 9.

puppycatdog · 04/10/2026 19:10

Would people mind adding what time they go to bed/sleep? I really need to shake up my morning routine but never go to bed early enough and end up exhausted every morning!

TheeNotoriousPIG · 04/10/2026 19:15

I'm up at 3.55 after a few alarms.

The dogs go out and I put their breakfasts down, I use the bathroom and get changed, let my dogs back in, and I'm in work for 4.15. I have a very short walking commute, which is a bonus on the rare occasion when I'm running late!

I can manage to go to bed at 10 at the beginning of the working week. Towards the end of it, I start to think that eight o'clock is extravagantly late!
