Do you recommend a soup maker for homemade soups?

Bweave · Today 18:43

I like making homemade soups. Like parsnip and apple soup
Beetroot soup

There are so many soups.

I usually use a saucepan and boil everything and then blend with a handheld blender.

I am considering getting a soup maker. I think it would be good to put it into the one container and blend it there too.

Anyone here have a soup maker and would you recommend one?

I make soup several times a week. Always in a pan. I have a soup maker and found it great, can’t remember why I stopped using it 😆It wasn’t expensive so if you’ve got space worth it.

I tend to make it in a slow cooker then blend in there with a stick blender, then keeps warm for a couple of hours if people need to eat at different times

These are divisive on here as lots of soup fans think they are unecessary - personally I absolutely love mine and love the fact that you can press start and then walk away until it beeps to tell you it’s ready !
I have the Morphy Richards one it’s at least 5 years old if not more and going strong.
It makes me regularly make soup for weekday lunches (wfh) as it’s quick and hands off!

I do. You'll get people on here saying it does nothing you can't do with a pan and a stick blender, which is absolutely true, but I like the convenience of dropping the ingredients in, going off for 20 minutes to do whatever I want, and coming back to a jug of soup ready to pour.

If you're using up pre-cooked leftovers, you don't even need to sauté them, just drop them in with your stock of choice and that's it.

ETA I also have a Morphy Richards per pp.

i don’t have one, but I am a great fan of an appliance you will use a lot and does the whole job without you having to keep an eye on it. For me - a rice cooker.

I looooove mine, best thing I bought last year . I now eat more healthy all winter and love how easy it is . Chop veg not too small . Then chuck in stock cube and water , then walk off . All done in 20 mins . Get the ones that cleans too it will help you with washing it

I have a soup maker. I love the fact that it can cook and blend it to the desired consistency, but... I prefer making it in a pan. That way, I don't have to worry about the portion being too big for the soup maker to handle, it doesn't take as long to warm up (my soup maker takes 30 minutes to warm it through) and a pan is easier to clean properly.

I might try a PP's preferred method of doing it in a slow cooker with a stick blender. Thank you for the idea!

Maddy70 · Today 18:55

I had soup makers but they really didn't last very long. The best option is a pan and a stick blender

FionnulaTheCooler · Today 18:56

I got mine in the Aldi middle aisle and it's great. I have a fussy DC who moans if there's the slightest lump and I always manage to miss a bit with the hand blender. It comes out perfectly smooth from the soup maker.

Shloopie · Today 18:56

I love a kitchen appliance but I can't be bothered with a soup maker. Just prefer a saucepan and stick blender.

Hatty65 · Today 19:00

It would just be one more damn appliance for me. I make soup in a pan and either use a stick blender, or sometimes just mash it about with a potato masher, as we quite like chunky soup.

Like a pp I also make large amounts at a time, and sometimes freeze extra. I usually make about 3 litres I would think.

SnapAndTap · Today 19:01

I use a pan (and the blender on the top if the Kenwood if I want a smooth soup, but I generally prefer chunky).
BUT, the soups ive had elsewhere dont saute the onions etc, and so have a different flavour profile. For that alone, id stick with a pan.

I have a ninja one, it is very good and we use it a lot so would recommend.

Seeingadistance · Today 19:37

I have an instant pot, and pretty much the only thing I use it for is making soup. Like the soup maker fans, I like being able to chuck everything in, get it started and walk away. Then I set about it with the stick blender.

This is what I do also .

teachermum28 · Today 20:02

Pan/slow cooker stick blender. I don’t like extra appliances if there’s a simple alternative.

Slightyamusedandsilly · Today 20:03

I love mine. If you're an indifferent cook like me, they're fool proof. A pan isn't fool proof. Or at least, it's not fool proof when it's me doing it.

Turophiles · Today 20:09

I wouldn’t have said it merited its own appliance that’s only used for a single thing, tbh. I make soup a lot but just in a saucepan with a stick blender.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · Today 20:10

They reviewed lots of soup makers on This Morning yesterday or the day before.

Carrie76 · Today 20:12

Buy a thermomix if you can, its a soup maker
and does everything else too

GiraffeGlee · Today 20:12

We absolutely love our ninja one, would definitely recommend

The only things I use my instant pot for are soup and steaming potatoes for mash and swede and carrot for swede and carrot mash.

I just can’t make it do anything else. I had a crockpot one which was fab and I could do loads of stuff in it. But the Teflon came off the pot and you couldn’t buy a replacement. I went for the instant pot because of the stainless steel insert and have regretted it ever since. It does do good soup and good mash though - leek and potato last night!

embolass · Today 20:15

I’m well used to doing both methods of pan and soup maker. But there’s just something extra easy about throwing it all in and boom 21 mins later pour , it’s a great gadget!

fuschiaproudparrot · Today 20:19

The great thing about a soup maker is it switches itself off unlike cooking on top of the stove. 20 mins , chuck it all in and it's done.

mrsm43s · Today 20:21

I've got a bog standard Morphy Richards one, and I absolutely love it, and use it loads in the winter. It's obviously not essential, but as I WfH, I find it more time efficient as I can set it going and just leave it rather than having to stay in the kitchen watching a pot, blending etc. I prep stuff before work, pop down and chuck stuff in it 20/30 minutes before my lunch break, and then it's ready and hot for when I start my lunch break.
