Just seen this on the news. Life is becoming terrifying these days. Pilot was stabbed by the co pilot. Said a very serious disaster avoided. Something to do with hi jacking. Or plan to kill all the passengers. Horrific.

I haven’t seen this.
Link?

It was first item on BBC news. So pretty serious.

I dont thjnk anyone has any idea about what exactly happened yet, and certainly no idea why, all thats reported is there was fight in the cockpit, the pilot was stabbed but the co pilot has also been taken to hospital. Two relief pilots who were on the plane made their way to the cockpit and landed the plane safely.

dairydebris · 30/09/2026 13:32

Passenger in the front lavatory heard fighting.

One pilot stabbed another, one managed to get out of cockpit.

Aircraft squawked hijack then general emergency.

Passengers got into cockpit and were able to take control of plane. An off duty possibly British pilot landed the plane in KSA.

Very likely a disaster was averted. Definitely some heros out there.

There are videos online showing bloodied passengers and pilots.

All of this info is not verified and comes from public online sources.

I’m surprised by 2 things- passengers / staff could access the cockpit which I thought was always locked post 9/11, and it’s being described as a “fight” which is strange language when one had a knife/ weapon on them

Bunnyofhope · 30/09/2026 13:44

You can read passengers testimonies on the usual up to dates places plus videos of the poor pilot.

The pilot who was attacked could have released cockpit door lock.

I believe there are fire axes in most cockpit so that could have been used.

Attacker was reported as Omani, the pilot that got stabbed was an Emirati, he was trying to prevent the Omani from crashing the plane. I hope the pilot is ok. This could have been pretty horrendous, 180 passengers and who knows how many on the ground.

EasternStandard · 30/09/2026 13:56

Just saw this, how scary.

Xcellently · 30/09/2026 13:59

Gosh, whatever next?

Additup · 30/09/2026 14:03

This is shocking. What the hell is wrong with some people that they want to commit mass murder like this?

Most likely, its someone doing something in the service of their God.

Would have been an absolutely terrifying dive for the passengers. Moving scenes on insta of the passengers singing Am Yisrsel Chai and clapping as flight comes in safely. They would have known it could have been very different.

Arjan · 30/09/2026 14:16

There is a passenger video from inside the plane as it is plunging, it is absolutely terrifying. You can see men at the front of the plane heading to the cockpit.

I don’t know if it’s only El Al airline, but I thought all flights into Israel had Israeli secret service on them, maybe that’s the reason the event was successfully intercepted.

OneShyPeachShark · 30/09/2026 14:19

It was a FlyDubai flight apparently, and the heroes were two other pilots who were travelling as passengers!

6namechange3 · 30/09/2026 14:23

I suppose after 9 11 the approach to hijacking as changed. It used to be the thing in the 80s to have hijackers demand a diversion, negotiate and hopefully most people survived unharmed. Now the only approach is to fight or die. What immense bravery from those pilots.

PleaseDontTreadOnTheDaisies · 30/09/2026 14:28

Terrifying - there are some very graphic videos circulating. Thank god the crash was averted. Hope the pilot is ok.
Every time something like this happens, new procedures are put in place - but I'm not sure what procedures can stop 'the co-pilot wants to crash the plane and so stabs the pilot" scenario. Better vetting for pilots?

Like the pilot who locked the door and crashed the plane whilst the other was out of the cockpit. Vetting pilots, mental health of pilots etc. However there's still the fact remaining that if a person wants to do something totally insane, they often, will be able to.

Speculation is never a good thing. Hasn’t worked out well for Donny or Rubio these past couple of days.

El Al used to be considered the safest in the world.
There was a case a few years ago where the pilot crashed the plane for suicide.

This was a Flydubai flight, not El Al, so I don't think this incident will impact El Al's safety record!

It's a major international news event, it's okay to talk about it, nothing bad is going to happen from a discussion.
