The wording below the photo is not mine. I was interested though in how much media coverage Charles Spencers revelations are getting. Multiple front pages.

Yes, Spencers publicists have earned their paycheck. Probably on commission.

GoodkneeBadKnee · 21/09/2026 08:27

Good. I believe every word Earl Spencer has said.

senua · 21/09/2026 08:32

He was the lead item on the 10 o'clock news last night. I have no idea why.

Laura Kuenssberg asked him why he was publishing the book now, after all this time, and he said words to the effect that he wanted this to be last comments on the matter. It seems weird to accuse the King of wanting to forget about her but it's OK for the Earl to draw a line.Confused

Helenbelena · 21/09/2026 08:33

Thats good - we need to know what our King was and is like. I believe Spencer. Prince Charles and the entire Royal family wanted to get Diana & Dodi out of the picture so were indeed probably relieved.

Constantrunner · 21/09/2026 08:34

I was surprised it was the lead item on the ten o clock news. And it was quite a long piece too.

It’s about the King of this country - it is important!

SoupSoup · 21/09/2026 08:36

One adulterous toff called Charles badmouths another adulterous toff called Charles concerning the death of someone neither of them behaved well to when she was alive, but whose sudden death caused the UK to lose its collective mind and retrofit her for sainthood? Well I never.

Is it? I thought the book was about Diana.

Constantrunner · 21/09/2026 08:38

Not compared to war, cost of living, and real news. It's celebrity gossip. I mean it is entertaining celebrity gossip, but not real news.
I always feel the same when we get on the TV news this royal has visited a charity today. Not news.

I guess only the king matters. Diana was just a pleb.

I have zero interest in some random family. Makes me wonder what real news they are burying.

Sister of an Earl and former Princess of the realm? No, she certainly wasn’t “a pleb”

How offensive. Diana herself was very proud of her aristocratic lineage and enjoyed being royal.

Yet you've started a thread, so it must have some impact and significance to you?

Not a fan of hers at all but, let the poor woman rest in peace.

I don’t doubt it. They had an unhappy marriage and acrimonious divorce. Did we expect Charles to be bereft when she died??

Yes I am amazed at the extent of the media coverage. Also amazed to discover most under 25s know who princess Diana is and that she has a high approval rating.

Right. So does that indicate to you the significance of the story?

A very good summing up of the whole farce!

Pedant61 · 21/09/2026 08:52

It's rather shocking that the BBC (a non-commercial channel) gave Earl Spencer half an hour of prime time TV to advertise his ridiculous book. Perhaps someone at the Beeb is still feeling guilty about the f*ck up with Martin Bashir?
Hopefully (tho I'm not confident), Spencer will do as he suggests and now stop talking about his sister in public.

I know! It seems to have passed some people by that C3 and Diana were ex when she died.
I don't doubt that he was sad for what-might-have-been and sad for their children, but they were divorced and she delighted in being a nuisance. Was there anyone that she didn't fall out with?

I wonder if it's to with that. I had to smile at Spencer's frequent references to his eulogy throughout the interview! I believe he sells copies?

Vintlet · 21/09/2026 08:55

Diana was heavily involved with Dodi Fayed. His father appears to have been responsible for bringing Diana into the family circle. There are endless revelations now about Mohammed Al Fayed. Like Epstein, he groomed so many young women. Yet, Earl Spencer isn't wringing his hands about his sister being manipulated and used by the Al Fayed family. His anger is reserved for his ex brother in law and how he 'seemed' after Diana's death.
Although Earl Spencer said this was all he had to say about the Royals. He did say he knew lots of other stuff about King Charles which sounds like a threat.
An Earl is pretty high up in terms of aristocracy. He is uber wealthy. He has been married four times. He is not an average person.

PinkEasterbunny · 21/09/2026 08:58

What about the comment where Diana allegedly suggested Charles had been in love with his male valet?????

BelleEpoque27 · 21/09/2026 08:58

I don't know why anyone is surprised that a man who couldn't stand his ex-wife, was having an affair throughout his marriage, and is known to have a temper, was not particularly upset that she died.

It's not pleasant and of course he should have been thinking of his kids, but it's not a surprise, is it. It's 30 years ago and doesn't need to be dragged up again.

They should never have married in the first place. She was a dimwit, he was far older and should have known better. No-one comes out of the whole sorry situation well, and I don't know why on earth it's headline news because they are just some rich family, have absolutely no bearing on most of our lives, and I wish everyone would just shut up about the whole lot of them.
