The wording below the photo is not mine. I was interested though in how much media coverage Charles Spencers revelations are getting. Multiple front pages.

I think it's bizarre the royals are featured on the news at all.
But I guess this shows how interested people are that the book is still in the headlines.

Well, it is deeply odd, but it’s essentially celebrity gossip along the lines of the Beckham feud, given a slight air of ‘legitimate public concern’ because of of the toffs called Charles involved in this long-past conversation happens to be the unelected HoS.

I can’t even remember what channel it was on, but I caught a glimpse a few days ago of about six of the usual ‘rent a royal watcher’ talking heads lined up on screen with an air of great seriousness, as if this constituted a constitutional crisis.

And it's really distasteful to use this as a gotcha.

On the contrary, I don’t think that these matters can be stressed enough. There an epidemic of abuse against women and girls in the UK. The government acknowledges this, finally.

If a global icon like Diana can be pulled into the orbit of a sex trafficker and assaulted by a man like al Fayed, then that’s pretty damn significant for the rest of us and how these matters are perceived, investigated and acted upon. Trying to keep women quiet about their views on men like al Fayed on a predominantly female talk forum is not the answer.

Women won’t wheesht.

Sorry I wasn't clear. We need to talk loudly about rapists and sex traffickers and how often they are in the orbit and protected by rich and powerful people.
But I hate when people use rape and sex trafficking to support their side. If you care about this stuff you talk about all rapists and sex traffickers.

It's like those who talk about Muslim grooming gangs and ignore white grooming gangs.

We know al fayed was pretty much excluded by the aristocrats so he wasn't protected by them. But he was a very rich man and that protected him.
We know Epstein, Maxwell, Andrew and others were protected and some are still protected by the aristocracy and their wealth.

Girls and women will still be being sex trafficked and raped today. And in some in the aristocracy and very wealthy will be protecting them.

I feel sorry for William and Harry. Very unpleasant reading for them.

Feel sorry for Diana too. She had plenty of faults and was very privileged but she was treated badly by a lot of people around her, and they haven’t stopped even after her death.

I imagine every one of those people who didn’t treat her well had mixed feelings when she died, I’m not surprised ‘recollections vary’.

Not compared to war, cost of living, and real news. It's celebrity gossip. I mean it is entertaining celebrity gossip, but not real news.
I always feel the same when we get on the TV news this royal has visited a charity today. Not news.

What charity they visited is the most useful news they generate. Any attention brought to charity is positive. If news outlets collectively chose a charity of the day to support we could get rid of the royals. However as they don't reporting on those visits is a very handy way of bringing a chairty into peoples notice.

Princess Di still whipping the media and some of the general public into a frenzy. As he and his publishers and PR people knew it would.

I have ordered the book and will be interested to read it. His eulogy was one the most incredible and memorable speeches I've ever heard. Very beautifully and cleverly written; perfectly pitched.

I suspect that the King may have said something along the lines of forgetting the craziness that surrounded Diana's death 'soon enough', but I find it hard to believe that he actually said that she would be forgotten 'soon enough'. I don't believe a father would say that about his son's mother. By all accounts, Charles & Di were good friends when she died, and he seems to be a caring father.

We'll never know the truth, unless there is a recording of the call - or if one or both of Diana and Charles's sisters come out to back him or rubbish the claim (the Earl says that he told close family what was said at the end of the call).

What about the comment where Diana allegedly suggested Charles had been in love with his male valet?????

Bisexuality exists, it would in no way affect anyone's life other than Charles and his significant others if he was in love with a valet

My father told my mother he had a vision of her stepping on an electrical cord and dying of electrocution shortly after they split, in a happy way. People do say horrible things about/to their children's other parent

The allegations was in the news at the time. It was more shocking then as homophobia was common.

Laura Kuenssberg is trying to get in on the action too, now she hasn’t got Boris Johnson to simper up to on Westminster park benches. She’s trying to be Emily Maitlis and managing more of a poundshop Jennie Bond demeanour.

It’s the BBC that is confusing legitimate interest in the functioning of the apparatus of the Head of State with celebrity gossip, and it’s sadly the BBC that is confusing genuine legitimate interest in matters relating to VAWG with sucking up to a dodgy aristocrat celebrity source.

And certain PR machines are currently also pumping all sorts of shite through MN. 👀

Tbf Harry is not immune to selling his family with similar. In terms of decency that rests with those who are not profiting from family gossip and PR nonsense.

I think if George going to Eton is going to feature on the BBC news, then Charles Spencers revelations also have to be on the TV news. You can't just have the stuff the royals like.
But I think none of it should be on the news. Only deaths, marriages, births and criminal matters. Not Catherine visits a food bank, or Charles was in love with his valet.

Why now, after all this time?

GoodGirlFaith · 21/09/2026 10:10

@Kate8889 But thankfully your mother had not actually died so it's not comparable.

We'll never know whether KC said what ES claimed unless more evidence comes to light.

CRCGran · 21/09/2026 10:11

Charles Spencer apparently told his first wife about his multiple affairs when she was pregnant....And has had subsequent marriages and divorces... Such a fine upstanding citizen, isn't he.... he should shut his stupid mouth and slink off back into the hole he crawled out of, and stop using his dead sister for profit.

Same sister who previously dated Charles?

her face was already on the tea towels though

Thecows · 21/09/2026 10:16

I had to laugh at him sneering in the LK interview about calling the King His Majesty when he's titled an Earl, oh the irony....

augustuss · 21/09/2026 10:20

Clearly Charles Spencer has a lot of influence over the media. Not sure if the end goal is selling a book or something bigger. This book might change a lot for Harry for one, with all the talk about taking away/ giving back HRH titles..

It’s also very clever to turn it into a do you believe A or do you believe B - take a side, etc., when of course neither side is 100% truthful or 100% lying, life is not black and white, people are not evil or saints…

Private words, out of context, long time ago - nobody would care if it wasn’t right, front and centre in all (social) media sources. People are so easily manipulated into caring about nonsense these days.

senua · 21/09/2026 10:21

One is fact. The other is unprovable / undisprovable "she said".
One is fact. The other is someone flogging a book. (I never understand why the BBC says it doesn't run advertisements when a lot of its output is doing the Arts' promotions for them).

The whole thing is a cynical money-making exercise. I don’t believe a word he says.

Good point. Diana isn't around to ask so we only have his word for what she said to him. Besides, his own family life doesn't hold up to all that much scrutiny - he's on wife number 4. Something must have gone seriously wrong the other three times. Hmm. Seems like a rather curious run of bad luck there. And it seems he's possibly estranged from some of his own children. One can't help wondering whether someone will write a revelatory book about him.

MadellineBellPictureMeGoneNS · 21/09/2026 10:27

Helenbelena · 21/09/2026 08:33

Thats good - we need to know what our King was and is like. I believe Spencer. Prince Charles and the entire Royal family wanted to get Diana & Dodi out of the picture so were indeed probably relieved.

She was only seeing Dodi for four weeks.
A lot of the conspiracy crap came from the rapist Al Fayed.
The lot of them are the centre of it cost this country fortunes.
After KC dies time to wind up the current set up.

Well, that’s hardly new, though? I mean, the BBC has had royal correspondents for many decades, which I find utterly bizarre (it’s like having an I’m A Celebrity — Get Me Out of Here! correspondent), but then it has also had a royal charter since the 1920s, supposedly to mean it’s not a government department directly under state control, but maintains independence .

MrsFaustus · 21/09/2026 10:55

Diana and CS were/are two very damaged people.i notice he mentions her sensitivity to rejection and criticism and says he suffers in the same way. He doesn’t attribute this to disastrous parenting and his mother’s absence. His father apparently was not the affable charmer he appeared but was very unpleasant to his very young wife. Seems CS has serious difficulties with relationships too. Doubt Diana was inferring a romantic relationship between PoW and his valet but obviously resented their closeness. Cannot imagine why CS wrote this book and is engaging with publicity unless it’s for money or he is indeed just a nasty piece of work, possibly both.
