The wording below the photo is not mine. I was interested though in how much media coverage Charles Spencers revelations are getting. Multiple front pages.

I guess only the king matters. Diana was just a pleb.

But she was anything but a pleb. As a lot of people have pointed out for decades, in terms of English/Scottish aristocratic blood, Diana, as a Spencer, had a lot more of it than Charles. The Spencers were a high-ranking aristocratic family from at least the 16thc, long before the Hanoverian line came to the throne after Queen Anne died without children. He outranked her, obviously, as the heir to the throne, but for some people the Windsors are Johnny-come-latelies, compared to old aristocratic families like the Howards , Percys etc.

HoraceCope · 21/09/2026 09:01

there are other papers that do not have this news as a headline.
agree it is surprising that there was an interview on BBC

What about the comment where Diana allegedly suggested Charles had been in love with his male valet?????

Spencer said Diana told him this was a reason for the divorce when they were having dinner at San Lorenzo.
An inadvisable place to make such a revelation, I would have thought.

SheilaFentiman · 21/09/2026 09:06

Soooo many good reasons for them to divorce, the chief being that they never should have married in the first place. I don’t really care who was in love with who else, when.

RoseTulips2023 · 21/09/2026 09:10

Media attention but not much media scrutiny.

In this interview he is asked if he has a relationship with King Charles. Why oh why not ask if he has a relationship with his children? Why has no-one mentioned the alcoholism and how that can cloud judgement? He said he would never profit from Diana - why does he sell copies of the eulogy? Will he be donating the profits of this book to a charity? Maybe one for women who have been emotionally abused by their partners? One his former wives could use?

Is it? I thought the book was about Diana.

It appears that Diana’s role now is to make cash and create limelight for Charles Spencer and that dreadful drug-addled nephew of his with the ‘royal heir and spare’ complex.

Diana was heavily involved with Dodi Fayed. His father appears to have been responsible for bringing Diana into the family circle. There are endless revelations now about Mohammed Al Fayed. Like Epstein, he groomed so many young women. Yet, Earl Spencer isn't wringing his hands about his sister being manipulated and used by the Al Fayed family. His anger is reserved for his ex brother in law and how he 'seemed' after Diana's death.
Although Earl Spencer said this was all he had to say about the Royals. He did say he knew lots of other stuff about King Charles which sounds like a threat.
An Earl is pretty high up in terms of aristocracy. He is uber wealthy. He has been married four times. He is not an average person.

Both families have been in the orbit of rapists and sex traffickers.
And it's really distasteful to use this as a gotcha. There were real girls who were raped by multiple men, both from all fayed side, and Andrew, Epstein side. And in both cases nobody stopped them.

I don't blame the women or men around them who knew nothing, although obviously some will have known.

Yes, I think that's a fair point!

Thinkofnewthings · 21/09/2026 09:23

The whole thing is a cynical money-making exercise. I don’t believe a word he says.

Constantrunner · 21/09/2026 09:23

@RoseTulips2023 you are asking why a serious interviewer did not engage in character assassination?
Honestly I don't understand your thinking at all.

And just to add, this is why girls and women raped by all fayed and his gang, and Epstein, Andrew, Maxwell gang, rarely speak out. Because anyone speaking the truth gets their character assassinated.

I'm not worried about Charles Spencer. He is rich and big enough to look after himself. But it is the same mindset that thinks character assassination is appropriate.

I know very little about Charles Spencer, but the little I know suggests he behaved badly during his marriages. But that has zero baring on the question of is he telling the truth.

The poor woman has been dead for 30 years.

Her brother exploiting her after all this time is in very poor taste and must be extremely distressing for her sons.

I don't know. The gossip is entertaining

Can you imagine the thread?

DP has just proposed with a very expensive ring. I love him, but his family are quite overbearing, he’s 13 years older than me and seems to still be hung up on his Big Ex, even though she is married with kids now. WIBU to say no?

The responses would largely be “Run. Fast.” 😀

Indeed. She went to her family and they basically said she couldn't back out.

Nope. Her mother advised against the marriage. Her sister who was only a few years older said she couldn't back out. Her sister probably wasn't old and mature enough to realise Diana could still back out.

Well, Spencer says Diana went to her father who said she couldn't back out.
Maybe he's not telling the truth.

Yes - well, it was at a meal with both sisters.

It's rather shocking that the BBC (a non-commercial channel) gave Earl Spencer half an hour of prime time TV to advertise his ridiculous book. Perhaps someone at the Beeb is still feeling guilty about the f*ck up with Martin Bashir?
Hopefully (tho I'm not confident), Spencer will do as he suggests and now stop talking about his sister in public.

Bizarre isn’t it. He was still in the headlines this morning, can’t remember what the new point was.

You are right her father said it was too late.
But her mother actively advised her not to marry Charles. So her mum had her back.

I think it's bizarre the royals are featured on the news at all.
But I guess this shows how interested people are that the book is still in the headlines.

On the contrary, I don’t think that these matters can be stressed enough. There an epidemic of abuse against women and girls in the UK. The government acknowledges this, finally.

If a global icon like Diana can be pulled into the orbit of a sex trafficker and assaulted by a man like al Fayed, then that’s pretty damn significant for the rest of us and how these matters are perceived, investigated and acted upon. Trying to keep women quiet about their views on men like al Fayed on a predominantly female talk forum is not the answer.

Women won’t wheesht.

Yes, she had quite a troubled relationship with her mother, as I understand it? She certainly wasn't talking to her at the time of her death. Who knows what the truth is, or why she ignored her mother's advice, if it is true.
