Anyone else concerned about the price of fuel?

Yesterday it was £1.66 near us a litre and today it’s £1.71. It seems to be climbing by the day and although I hear tuts and sighs most people just seem to be accepting it. The government hasn’t said a word - but mind you they’ve made approximately £130million in excess VAT since Feb when this conflict started. I recently switched to a hybrid so it’s not costing me quite as much but I wonder how high the government is prepared to let it go before they will slash the VAT?

My neighbour had a surprise when the electricity went off for three days and she couldn't use solar. She was told that even with an isolator (costing thousands) she would only have one socket to use.

Yes I was shocked when I went to fill up. Still only get paid 55p per mile fuel expenses from work though.

Why should the government slash VAT on fuel? Drivers need to slash their driving.

i think all sensible people are concerned, apart from Donald who thinks it’s fine and a small price to pay for his tremendous victory in the Middle East. It’s already starting to make people think about journeys and will invariably feed into rising costs in every other sector

There is so much outrage about immigration, for example: and Nigel Farage and his ilk are cashing in on this, saying "vote for meeeeeeeeeeee, I will gladly stop the boats if you will kneel at my feet". There are plenty of arguments for and against immigration.

Yet, there seems to be no outrage about the ever-increasing fuel prices at all. Why not?

Some people are trying to argue that high fuel prices deter people from driving. Tony Blair's government tried to price motorists off the road, following some "green" agenda or other, and there were the massive fuel protests. As for "drivers need to slash their driving": some people drive for a living. And most of us are using drivers every day, even if we don't drive ourselves: online deliveries, for example, while priding ourselves with "look how green I am, I shop online, I don't drive to shops". It wouldn't matter so much if trains were affordable, but they really are not. The wealthy politicians don't notice this, as they just get their secretaries to book them a first-class ticket for public engagements, and they probably never see the price.

If heating oil keeps on rising people, people will freeze without support. What support is there is hugely limited. People in the colder parts of the uk especially. I have about 500 litres in my tank. Probably need to reorder in November but fuck knows at what price. And 500 is the minimum. After that it’s regular purchase of 500 till late spring. It’s really worrying. It wasn’t so bad in March as we had the summer ahead but in colder parts of the uk we use heating more of the year because of climate.
