Adult charged after slapping my autistic son, what happens now?

Hello, would be greatful for some advice please. My 11yr old son was slapped around the face by a 22yr old adult. I called the police and statements were taken both sides. She attended court for assault by beating and pleaded not guilty, and was put on bail until a trial date is set. My son is autistic and suffering with anxiety now. Is she likely to get away with this? I am struggling to understand how she can think its normal to slap a child. There were no witnesses, apart from the fact she admitted to both myself and my sons dad that she slapped him in the face. However she has pleaded not guilty.

I would think that the OP’s neighbours are thoroughly sick of the screaming and shouting from this family, all the police call outs and having social services near on daily visits

@Lisa121888Marie - now you have @Whoachino 's extremely helpful message, you might want to ask MNHQ to delete this thread since it's moving now to victim playing and excusing the offender. Probably wouldn't be the case had your child been an 11 year old girl and the offender a 22 year old man.

Good luck to you and your son, and well done for reporting

THIS. Just swap the genders and imagine all those “don’t ruin her life” commenters go batshit at the man. I have zero doubt they’d be wanting him in prison and some sort of registers for life. There’d be no demands for context. Sad state of affairs.

This. All this fuss and public money over a slap (which ok she should not have done) when most rapists don’t even end up in court due to wishy washy procedures.

An adult hitting an unrelated child is assault and should be prosecuted. It isn't OP's or her child's fault that many rapists don't end up in court. Rape victims are treated disgracefully by the police and the courts but that still doesn't excuse the behaviour of the adult who assaulted a child.

I think 22 is still a child

And you're not quite right

Would you say the same thing about a 22 yo male hitting an11 yo female? Both just children?

Okay but you are wrong. I know the research about brains not developing fully until 25 or whatever but in no way shape or form is 22 a child! They are grown ass adults long before then.
