Sydney Sweeny Naked Advert - athletes reaction correct or an over reaction that gives the advert a lot more publicity?

Personally I think a naked actress with sports equipment is a bit tacky and obviously aimed at men but I don't know if it was a massive affront to women athletes? Sydney wasn't pretending to be an athlete and the athletics paraphernalia was to advertise sports betting......not my cup of tea but I don't see how it was diminishing womens sport really

why do you find it so hard to believe that not all woman agree with you and the ones moaning?

I don’t. I’m happy to have a debate and think it’s important people are able to express a range of views.

My issue is with people trying to silence women because they have a strong opinion or calling them stupid for having a different opinion.

I’ve consistently said I think it’s wrong to tell the female athletes in question that they should have stayed silent and not voiced their opinion. I don’t have to agree with everything they say but I respect their right to say it.

I think it's been an overreaction based on the fact people don't like Sydney Sweeny. Tons of women in the public eye sexualise their image to flog stuff. I've only seen a couple of the images, but from what I've seen she's basically naked covered up by a strategically held sports ball. I just don't think that's got anything to do with women's sport.

I think there is obviously division within the athletics community itself and there are a couple of athletes now coming out in support of Sweeney with the idea that women should be free to show there bodies as they see fit and no one should police that or try and shame women.

As said before and I think you have pointed out there are a lot of female athletes prepared to be in pics where they are wearing very little (or even no) clothing and there have been no complaints. One thing is that those who want to protect the right to the 'racy' bikini shot will not in the whole be as vocal about this.

By slamming Sweeney on this Hunt et. al. May have inadvertently offended a lot of female athletes who model as a way as supplementing their careers or perhaps will model after their careers. Not all athletes have Cambridge degrees to call back on in terms of alternative career progression.

certainly women should not be silenced on this if some athletes do take exception to the advert but is only fair those that think there may be double standards get to speak as well.

Free speech isn’t free speech without consequences.
So if the athletes that have spoken out have offended other athletes , then that is for them to deal with.

Both sides of the argument have a right to be heard and there doesn’t have to be an agreement. Sometimes the only answer is to agree to disagree! and that’s okay!!

I have only just seen the advert and thought I'd stumbled across someone's only fans...

As a respectable sports woman, I wouldn't even feel the need to be offended by that advert; as that advert is simply selling sex, and has no bearing on the hard work and dedication sports women undertake. I genuinely believe it would've been better ignored.

Very Bonnie Blue minus the sexual intercourse, attention seeking behaviour.
Celebrities selling sex are a dime a dozen on our screens 🤷🏾‍♀️.
