Just to cheer myself up after reading a really sad thread.
Can you remember and tell us the best compliment you have ever been given?
Go on, blow your own trumpet, we dont do it often enough.

I got told by a bloke on holiday ‘I love how you don’t give a shit how crap you sound, you just sing your heart out anyway’ 🤣 it was the 90s, it was Magaluf and yes I got off with him 🤣

I was dancing with friends in a night club once and a very handsome guy walked right up to me on his way out of the club and said “you’re beautiful and one of a kind in a very samey world, never change!” and just walked off.

I still think about it now 14 years later! I was genuinely just having fun with my friends, wasn’t dancing provocatively, was doing the bloody running man and laughing my head off when he approached 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

An elderly gentleman on a plane told me I was a really good mum. I didn’t feel it, I was stressed travelling with two young kids.

I still remember his kindness many years later.

Absolutely a compliment! It was at a time when I was the only woman in a very manly environment and was not averse to calling a spade a fucking shovel if the situation warranted.

Both my teenage DS worked in the same place and their manager said to one of them 'whatever your mum has done raising the both of you should be bottled'.

I've been a single mum for the most part of their childhoods. Their DF is an unreliable alcoholic.

My friends mum said about me, not to me, that I have a really beautiful face. The fact she said it about me when I wasn’t there made it feel really genuine.

DD visited a family who had recently adopted a toddler. As she was leaving the dad said to her that she was so lovely with their child that she must have been parented very well.
She has always been very good with children.I think that comes naturally rather than having much to do with us ,but I was still very flattered!

That i never seem to age.Im 46 so ill take that

quite a few people have told me I look young for my age, when I was pregnant with my 4th baby, I was 41, had gone on a work do with DH. My oldest DD was 21, and quite a lot of people asked me if this pregnancy was my first, and were very shocked.. not only wasn't, but my oldest was 21.

I was tipped back in the dentist chair and the nurse gave me the pair of plastic glasses to put on and said "haven't you got lovely colour eyes".

They are a dark blue/grey and I've never thought they were particularly lovely, I always wish I'd had my uncle's colour eyes that were more turquoise.

Nice of her to say so though.

Every time I get a positive review on my business Google review page I have a little glow. I suffer massively with imposter syndrome, it took me a long time to pluck up courage to start my own business so every compliment I get is the best compliment I’ve ever had ☺️

My favourite compliment was in Rome. An older italian couple were having a meal. After they finished the Italian man came over to say how beautiful I was. Not in a creepy way. It was really sweet. Not sure what my then boyfriend, now husband thought of it.

I ran into resus late at night and the grandma of the very sick kid turned to the mum and said “It’ll be alright, Dr Nocoolnamesleft is here now!” I think that was the third of her grandchildren that I’d treated. Amazing vote of confidence.

Prettiest girl in the college according to a group of friends. I’m a fat wrinkled slob now though.

My GCSE English teacher told my friend that I was a teachers worst nightmare as I hadn’t done a scrap of work for two years but still came out with top grades.
Sure it wasn’t meant as a compliment but I was proud 😀

David Bowie once complimented me on my eyes (I was a teenager at the time).
And there was no agenda - l was with a group in a restaurant, one of our party knew him, and he was with Angie.
BUT.... the nicest one ever, was my ex's teenager daughter telling me that l'm the calmest person she knows, and that l make her feel calm.
That was surprising and lovely.

I had two, one was when my FIL told me I reminded him of Stevie Nicks. The other was at a uni flat party, where someone who’d been to a previous party introduced their friend to me and told them “this girl really knows how to boogie” I was so happy😂

My friend's seventeen year old son apparently told her that 'My auntie katseyes is old, but she's cool!'
I was about 45 at the time, but l appreciated the sentiment, bearing in mind most teenagers think thirty is ancient.

When I was in my early twenties another woman said to me that I was one of the prettiest people she’d ever met. That was 30 years ago and I still remember it.

A boy in my P6 class (Year 5 in England) said to me "You have a lovely smile" and that has always stayed with me. Such an unusual thing for a ten-year-old boy to say but so nice.

At university this very gorgeous boy who everyone fancied leant over my chair on his way out of the library and whispered "I can't concentrate on my work for looking at you." It was very smooth and he was spinning me a well-practised line (and I had a lovely boyfriend whom I subsequently married) but it was a good moment.

I was a young mum and we didn't have much money, living in a one-bedroom flat with DD's clothes kept in a suitcase under the bed. She was always clean, well fed, nicely dressed, played with and very loved so she was fine but we had a lot less materially than a lot of other families. I took her round to visit my best friend whose granny said " That little girl looks so well cared for." It meant a lot.

This is making me reflect on how an encouraging comment can really stay with someone .. we should all make more of them.
