Just to cheer myself up after reading a really sad thread.
Can you remember and tell us the best compliment you have ever been given?
Go on, blow your own trumpet, we dont do it often enough.

'What you see is what you get'....I have had that said a couple of times, and I take it as a nice uncomplicated compliment.

This is an appearance one - sorry for being shallow but I really was chuffed: that I looked like Michelle Pfieffer. Oh to have her talent though ..

Don't apologise for an 'appearance one'. In the great scheme of things it may seem shallow, but it cheers you up to be thought of as nice looking...and Michelle Pfeiffer is gorgeous.

A once stopped me in King’s Cross when I was 8m pregnant and said wow, my wife’s has 4 children and you are the sexiest pregnant woman I’ve ever seen. I was both weirded out and very flattered

A friend once told me that if she looked like me, she'd spend all her time looking in the mirror.
My mum told me I have very pretty arms 😂

My friends (French) husband turned to me after I cooked a meal for them and said "I really enjoyed that - you do not cook like an English woman"

I’ve been complimented a few times when we’re out and about at how polite & well behaved toddler DS is. It’s only a snapshot of his entire day (and we’re just really lucky that he’s a chill kid) but I’ll take it.

I remember stepping out my car in the work car park pre-Covid and a fellow worker from another dept said ‘wow, you look like you’ve just walked straight out of a fashion magazine’, it seemed such a spontaneous thing to say and I think he was embarrassed as much as I. Anyway, for an insecure fumbling type, I haven’t forgotten it.

Many years ago a male friend of my friend said that I was the personification of beauty! I think he needed to go to Specsavers, but it was nice anyway for him to say it.

My friend's mum who hadn't seen me for decades said I was "always iridescent" and a male friend years ago called me "radiant". So, so lovely!

Is that a compliment? I was called that and wasnt quite sure how to take it?

10 years back, was teaching a half-day university course. Near the end, a student stopped me to announce he was ‘at 84%’. He seemed amazed at this, I just looked confused.

The girl in front turned around to say that I should take that as a massive compliment. He meant mobile phone battery and the lecturer who had done the morning the previous day had been so dire, everyone was down to 20% by the first break.

Someone once hugged me, told me they loved me and that I was the most inspirational woman they’d ever met. This is the first time I’ve ever acknowledged that comment. It felt too big so nobody in my real life knows that was said. It helps that the person who said it was someone I had a huge amount of respect for and had been a journalist, so had met with many inspirational people in his time.

Well done Mum! That’s what we all strive for! 💪👏🏻

When I went to pick up my monthly prescription and the woman on the counter queried my age as she didn’t beliege I was 60 and therefore eligible for my free prescriptions. Made my day 😂

I think this has stayed in my mind because it wasn't said to me directly; I overheard my colleagues discussing me, which meant even more to me. One colleague said "I trust ipse with my life. I would trust her with my child's life even. You can trust her when nobody is watching..." Then another colleague chipped in "Exactly! Her word is heavier than a contract! Love that about her!" 😊

When i was in uni i used to listen to a late night radio show and the host each evening would say hello to all the listeners who had added him on Facebook, so one night I did and he actually said i had the nicest tits he'd even seen!

I had an unsolicited one once that stuck with me. I've never been one too concerned with looks, and can't even remember how it came up, but a colleague who I considered very beautiful said to me 'You're not exactly plain though, are you?' which I took to mean I wasn't half bad-looking. Nice!

I’m overweight, disabled and not attractive at all but when I was a teen, I was bloody gorgeous with long white blonde hair (naturally white blonde as well!), skinny with big boobs but sadly that did not last! However long before it all went south, a young girl who lived on the same army camp (Pennypot in Harrogate for those who know it! This was 1998/99) as my best friend Sam, said to me “When I grow up, I want to look just like you” and I’ve never forgotten it! Bless her, she was far more beautiful than I ever was or could be and I told her so, but those words meant more to me than anything any man, friend or family member ever could.

Personality wise, a male friend from many years ago, once described me as “very wise” and I was thrilled to hear that one!

Was once told I looked like Jennifer Rush (remember her?) in my youth.

Sadly not the case anymore but I have had lots of lovely compliments for my work (retired community nurse) and those are more important to me because what you look like is basically pot luck but what you do shows who you are.

Oh and another one. My partner at the time was a very odd bod. Very tightly wound up and repressed. I never quite knew where I stood with him and always felt like he secretly felt I wasn't good enough (you can see why we didn't go the distance!). At a friend of mine's wedding he had come along as my plus one and had got talking to another friend's boyfriend. Friend's boyfriend, later on, said to me that my partner had seemed extraordinarily impressed with me and had sounded a bit in awe of me. I had just finished some higher education with very good scores and landed a very good job but he'd never given me any indication to my face that he was proud of me or anything.

Someone stopped me in the supermarket and said the way I spoke to my children was beautiful, it’s got me through many toddler tantrums 😂

When I was in my 20s a man gave me a balloon because I was the prettiest girl in the pub. 😆

A former boss told a colleague that 'if QueenC proofreads a set of reports there will be absolutely no mistakes'. I was very chuffed with that one because he was extremely difficult to please.

Weird one but my ex had a foot fetish and posted my feet on a prominent foot fetish forum (I consented to this, it felt inconsequential and I kind of wanted to see if my feet were really 10/10 feet).

Someone said “best feet in the northern hemisphere and possibly in the world” and many people agreed. Fucking buzzing when I read that.

Old man once told me I looked like Audrey Hepburn which had me fucking buzzing for weeks.

I always get really happy when people say I look like my mum when she was younger - in reality I know I look like a less good looking version of her, but still I’m happy with that.

When I first met Dh (37 years ago 😮) he was a quite shy first year student and I was a 2nd year and a bit more confident. We lived in the same halls of residence.

One Friday night there was a ceilidh and I got dressed up a bit in a nice red dress that was a bit clingy and when he saw me he kind of sputtered out “weegie, you look all -,respectable!”. I had no idea what to say! Turned out he’d wanted to say “sexy” but he’d only known me a week and was too shy to get away with it!

But to this day (we’ve been married 32 years) if he calls me “respectable” I know exactly what he means! 😍
